It wouldn’t be shitty or tragic if they didn’t get to play in a NHL regular season game. I’d be surprised if they did barring injury or beating out others during camp to be in the starting 12. I’m sure they’ll both play in the exhibition game.
I mean generally I agree with you but it's kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity and the reason he's been away from his family since a young age. I don't think that's lost on Lindy and I bet there's a few guys who would willingly sit down a game or two for him.

It sounds like Buffalo is incompetent. Especially when guys like Ovechkin makes a living there. Hull made a living there.

Can the team not cycle the puck and get Tage open? Don't understand this quote its like waving the white flag.
Hmmm I took it as the opposite. Like hey, this isn't working so we're going to try different things. Certainly more inspiring than hey, this didn't work but we're going to keep doing it in hopes it will eventually work. I guess we can spin anything into catastrophe if we really try.

I think you’re taking the statement too literally. Totally eliminating the Tage one timer would be foolish, and I don’t think thats what App is saying. But when It was the PP’s ONLY plan like last season, its easy to defend. The days of being that one dimensional is over.

It sounds like they will be adapting a new style with several shooter options, which like OV in Washington, will then actually open up Tage for a few more open looks to take those bombs.

Not a knock on capability but I think we will see the inverse approach to Granato. With so much emphasis on defending our own zone to start, I think we will see our goal scoring production down, as well as the amount of goals we give up will be lower this season as well.

We need special teams to be very good for this to happen.

They tore a lot of GA off their totals from 2022-23 to 23-24. What they didn’t do was cut down a lot of their d-zone miscues. They were still bad at cross-slot passes, odd-man rushes, and quality shots against. They might just give up fewer goals just by better forechecking.

I thought this a little yesterday when I saw Stamkos score standing still on the PP.

That's a bit of what worries me about this season. We have very little depth of top 6-capable forwards. If anyone gets hurt, we're basically forced to have a prospect in our top 6 or someone who is nowhere near suited for it.
I disagree with this sentiment. We know Kulich is CLOSE to being full-time NHL ready. Same for Rosen. And when he hits the NHL, chances are it's as a top 6 forward. If it's a short-term thing, I think Zucker would be just fine for a few games.

Plus, there aren't a lot of NHL teams that are playing top 6-capable forwards on their 3rd and 4th lines. There isn't the room under the cap for most teams.

I took this comment as emphasizing the "waiting" part of the sentence. I think they mean no more passing it around just waiting for Tage to be ready. If he isn't open, try something else instead of just passing it around hoping he can get open.

We have enough weapons that if someone wants to shadow Tage on the PP, we now have a defacto 4v3 and should have an advantage.

I am not good and seeing secret messages.

I don't disagree that trying to set Tage up for a one-timer repeatedly for 2 years hasn't worked because its telegraphed instead of being creative but then again if you watched the PP the last 2 years they really haven't done much else. Remember Granato took over the PP half way through the season and it made no difference.

IF they were actually creative on the PP this statement wouldn't even have to be made. You want to see a secret message within the message makes it look like a clown organization. Who does that? Politicians?

Appert talks about attacking from both flanks which means Tage will still be getting the one timer, it will just be a different strategy of how they get there.

Or exploiting the other side if Tage is getting too much coverage.

The caps could score other ways on the pp too. They had constant movement and clean crisp passes they would cycle it so well that the pk unit would shift and collapse leaving over open. We forced the one time option and allowed pk units to keep formation we have to work on getting other teams to collapse more trying to work it inside close to the net from the corners it will end up leaving the point man open with more time and space rather than them getting it at the blue line being forced into an escape move scrambling to keep possession.

This^^.

Ovechking would get one PP goal every 3 or 4 games, and yet the Caps PP was cooking at close to 30% in some of his most productive PP seasons. They usually weren't just solely feeding him the puck the way the Sabres tried to feed Tage last season, and in the games where they did recently, (trying to get him the goal record), it rarely worked.

I would also add that NHL powerplays have evolved substantially in the past decade. The days of teams puck chasing and hoping to outwork the execution of the opponents powerplay on the PK are dead. Maintaining formation and keeping the passing lanes closed is the new pk gold standard, which makes the "Ovechkin one timer powerplay strategy" a lot tougher in today's NHL.

While Appert didn't lay out the PP plan with a ton of verbiage, the inclusion of no more "standing on the dot" and "tired chaotic PK" should be pretty clear that skating and movement will be a priority on the PP, and the days of Ellis' static formation should be gone (hopefully to never return).

Will fix everything
As a Ted's spokesperson?

In all seriousness, signing an aging player who has historically struggled with his diet in a city that is famous for its unhealthy dining options probably isn't a good idea. If we send him to Rochester he'll be dead from garbage plates by March.

Why not pto him though? Champ vet great pedigree could be an in season place holder for kulich while he hits a 1000 point milestone with us. Doesn't even have to play the full season and could be a steady vet presence in the lockerroom.

They could only pick one, and they chose Zadina. :sarcasm:

Interesting to see they are pushing RyJo into the fire with the Amerks laced pre-season squad. I'm curious to see how he holds up during the gauntlet ahead. Clearly they want him to play vice someone like Clague who they know they can sit.
