The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

Yes. We got talent in the pipeline to reproduce Peterka’s production. But I don’t see any power forwards in the prospect mix. Sign me up.
And who are these point producers in the pipeline? Rosen? Helenius and Ostlundh are C s so not the same position. Wahlberg? We do not have anyone to replace Peterka at this point. You could dump Quinn but I don’t think the return would be that great.

Nobody wants to play here, this team is a hell hole. If you only want plsyers that "want to play here", you'd have Matt ellis suiting up again. Fix the f***ing franchise and people will want to play here. Stop giving this dumb GM excuses and repeating the company line about so and so being not happy, not wanting to play here etc....

I’m thinking a full season of Kulich and, less reliably, Quinn and possibly Rosen.

Pegula inadvertently created this situation. When Pegula said he only wants players that want to be here anyone who wants out gets their wish by simply uttering the words.

If you know the magic words get you to a better team then why not? Pegula has created an exit door for anyone that wants to leave.

Players playing on San Jose or Chicago are probably told to suck it up and play on.

Kris Baker in his latest podcast with Fairburn mentions he would like to have the physicality of Will Cuylle of the Rangers for the Sabres

Would Cuylle interest members here in the summer as part of deal (along with someone like Schneider) for JJP ?

Will Cuylle Stats And News
I'd absolutely like both of Cuylle and Schneider but not at the cost of Peterka. That's trading a quarter for a couple of dimes. Chain mentioned the Fiala trade a while back when Peterka's name came up at the deadline. That's the type of deal Buffalo should look for if they decide they have to move Peterka. Find a team that's desperate for offense and squeeze a blue chip defenseman out of them (I realize this is a tall task especially for our dumbass of a GM). That's about the only way moving Peterka makes any sense at least to me.
But if he is the next guy that does not want to play here, is not a culture fit, and won't sign an extension you will have to move on.
Yeah I don't know about any of this stuff, typically it's just speculation without any real hard evidence. Most of the time money talks, if Buffalo is willing to spend the money Peterka will sign here. I see no indication he's a bad culture fit.

You are correct in that we lack a player like Cuylle in our system and on our team. He'd be a great get. You are mistaken if you assume a prospect will step in here and score at a 70 point pace. That production will almost certainly not be replaced.

Kulich and Quinn are on the roster. That isn’t the pipeline. We would be creating a hole that that Cuyllie doesn’t fill. JJ has improved production every season. Kulich is a question mark as is Quinn.

Anything about Reimer re-signing here? I would rather trade UPL have Reimer and Levi next year if Levi is ready?

Get out from that UPL contract if Buffalo can and use that money for a free agent.

Peterka was a no show for much of the epic 13 game losing streak. He's struggled with the defensive side of the game his entire NHL career. If we have a chance to flip him for a solid top 6 power forward to help reshape the culture around here, it's an absolute no brainer decision in my eyes. The fact that JJ's lighting it up when the season is essentially meaningless should not and will not justify the silly contract his agent is going to request. Kulich, Quinn, and Rosen can step in to to fill some of the scoring we lose by going from Peterka to Cuylle, who is still a decent lock for 20 goals. Given the injuries to Greenway this roster desperately needs more size and grit in the middle six. What we don't need is an overabundance of skilled, scoring wingers who can't play defense to save their lives. Tage has that category on lockdown.

You aren’t reshaping the culture until the owner and gm are gone. In the interim I keep the promising scoring winger that is progressing. If you want to change culture in the interim dump Thompson. At least you can attempt to rebuild the power play. What this team needs is a top line difference maker who matches up against the best Cs in the league. We are not getting that for either trade piece. JJ had 8 points during the streak so he wasn’t a no show. Thompson had 6. I don’t think size alone gets it done. You need smarter players. Not convinced Cuylie is that much of a step up. And the betting on youth to fill in is what keeps us in the cellar.

This team has constantly made trades/moves based entirely on narrative that always blow up in our face in the worst way possible. Why do people want to see this team continue doing things that end up comical own goals?

Peterka was tied for the team lead in points with Zucker during that time, with 8 points in 13 games.

How much is it s byproduct of linemates?

Benson-' this is hisc19 yr old season.

Thus is why I prefer a 3 yt bridge and thrn der hoe the next 2 sessons gi and then decide who to keep lomg term

We’d have to add substantially to JJ to get both of them.

Would not we be close to the playoffs ?

Quinn, Benson and Kulich seem to have improved at the end of this season. NeXT season having a 3 rd line scoring 45 goals would be very good ? They could hit 15 each .

The two top lines seems set Also . Just if they bring in a good forward and round out the d they should be in ?

How much of Schneider is the idea of the player he represents as opposed to him actually being that player, though.
I get it, two thirds of the league are salivating over that elusive defensive top 4 RHD, but if I give up JJ, an actual young first line winger, I want a sure thing back.
Not entirely sold on Cuylle, either.

So what Will we do at the draft to become a playoff team ? Top 4 rhd ? Center ?

Peterka Kulich Thompson
Zucker Norris Tuch
Benson McLeod Quinn
Greenway Kozak Krebs
Malenstyn,Lafferty

Dahlin Samuelsson
Byram Clifton
Power Docker
Bryson

UPL
Levi

Mattias is a big dman (albeit not a rh) and everyone would practically give him away. Mattias is bad at everything mostly. Schneider is a big dman (albeit a rh, and on a different team) and is bad at mostly everything thus far. Yet we have to add to JPP to get that??? Cuylle I'd gladly welcome but adding truculence at the expense of a possible ppg player is questionable at best. But it would fit our M.o.....

People can't bang their heads on the desk for steading veteran pressence on D then trade our best chip for a young dman with a to of problems juts because he's big and is RH....

also why are we trusting trading for any NYR prospect that their scouts chose to covet? They miss on more picks than Shaq does free throws ffs

Top 4 D is the main move I figure.

Quinn has 6 less points than Cozens in about 6 less games. Just felt funny to point out. Even with Quinn's Dismal season, Cozens is more disappointing.

I don't know that I want SJ and Chicago being the standard for how the Sabres run things.

Same for Verbeek and the Ducks.

I don't always lose 7-4 to the only team with a worse points % in the eastern conference than me, but when I do, I beat the team with the leading points % in the eastern conference 8-5 in the very next game.

You missed the point completely and its not even about that. Its about being on a bad team and not being able to get a trade cause the owner thinks you dont want to be there.

Not sure how you missed that completely.

Even if it was, how many cups has Chicago won?
