I'm a big cozens to the wing guy, think he starts scoring instantly if put there

Don't really have centers to replace him which is a massive issue, wouldn't mind doing a split at home where you can line match put him on a line with tage and load the top line and on the road split them up

Or commit him to the third line center role, put him between Zucker and Greenway. More simplicity kind of line

To say you are jumping the gun with Olofsson would be a massive understatement. He’s only played one game. He would need to score 30+ goals in Vegas to do something he didn’t already do here. So let’s wait and see.

Jack/Mitts are the same players they became here. The change was they went to teams with better talent, leadership and coaching. Jack’s best season is still his last full season with us. Considering we were basically a one line team, it makes it even more impressive.

Sam took his goal scoring to an entirely different level last season. But the 30+ goalscorer he was prior already emerged as a Sabre. He also went to a team with better talent and coaching.

Montour got an opportunity he never got here or in his first season in Florida. Which was to be the top 5v5 RHD and the PP workhorse. Which were products of a new Maurice taking over as coach (PP+5v5 ice time) and Weeger leaving (5v5 ice time). Obviously on top of the opportunity he was given he was playing for more talented team with a better coaching.

ROR was also given an opportunity he was never gonna get here. Which was the role of #1 all situations center. That was never happening here with Jack on the roster. He took that opportunity and turned it into the best season of his career. He also went to a team with a great veteran leadership group and better coaching than he had here.

Erod doesn’t even belong in this conversation. He won a Stanley Cup playing for his 4th team in 5 years. Clearly we weren’t the only team that didn’t see him fitting into their plans.



If there is a common thread with the ones who went on to have team success. It’s better coaching, rosters, leaders and/or more vets. The ones who went on to better individual success were getting an opportunity they didn’t or weren’t going to get here.

Good answer. What's wrong with this organization then.....?

Not good enough coaching, rosters, leaders and/or vets.

Sounds pretty basic and unfortunately, foundational.

Common thread being continually poor management and the same ownership over some 13 seasons.

having one really competent GM who is good in all areas, not rookie after rookie, is certainly the biggest failure of the owner.
the recent one is learning on the job and takes seasons to make a decision when its already too late.
I still think he wrongly identified his centers, not deviating when one might not work out (Cozens) and trading probably the wrong one

What's wrong with the team is that so many small mistakes add up. You can list them all. They keep happening. Buyout Skinner with no plan. Overpay for Zucker by maybe $1 M to $2 million. Don't have enough scoring. Install Ruff as coach (okay decision but likely driven by money) and then he gets none of his own coaches. Yes, Ellis is not PP coach but the powerplay is just subpar with enough talent for that not to be the case.

It's all just this and that and has been forever under the Pegula regime. Personally, I think good management starts at the top and Sabres have never had that since Terry took over. Sorry for Kim's health but putting her in charge of team was part of that.

We can still win, Hell even a cup but Terry's management style really creates a handicap

The one constant in all of this is Pegula's ownership. If there's a wrong decision to make, he'll make it.

Watching the Ducks (LOUD uni's) vs Vegas and surprised to see Reimer in net.

Guess I missed him being moved?

P.S. Should real interesting when Anaheim plays the Flames in Calgary........ Too much Red/Orange.

Skinner has 2 of the team's 3 total goals to start their season. Working around the net at 5on5. We've watched him do it for years here but I don't miss how he was playing last year.

Is Kulich earning a spot? He looked really good against the Kings from what I saw (2nd period on). How was he yesterday?

Basically all of those things and yes inept management/ownership is the root cause. We haven’t had a well built roster with good enough coaching for some time.

Add Reimer into the mix of mistakes. The Sabres probably keep him if the add a bonus payment post-waiver draft. The Leafs did that with Matt Murray, and it helped get him through. You can say who cares, and mostly, you will be right, but this is a minor mistake that could hurt you. One injury and suddenly Sandstrom is your goalie for a couple of games. The Sabres are borderline for playoffs again (amazing in itself) and tiny mistakes like throwing away even two games on an AHL back up could cost you points.

He did but I'm cranky and tired of players looking good and not scoring.

Kulich definitely has to start finishing. But, you can say that about a lot of their forwards after 4 games.
