Because it's cheaper to pay the guys under contract than to pay them AND their replacements would be my guess.

I think it’s deeper than that. Lindy takes on no risk letting Adams keep his cheaple in position. Nothing that happens this year is going to land on Lindy Ruff. But…failure means something has to be done. And Adams’ guys failing again only hurts his standing and probably benefits Ruff in any power dynamic in the organization. Terry is a clown. A cheap clown. But cheap clowns can be played by people smart enough to play the game. And the only person in the world who might have Terry’s love enough to pull a power play and remove Adams lips from his ass is Lindy Ruff.

Kevyn goes into his year end meeting with he same lines for the fifth year. Lindy goes in with “didn’t let me hire my own staff. Roster has had the same holes for years” and for the first time in a long time…Terry is hearing it from someone he respects, knows the game, and he admires. Normally a coach wouldn’t benefit from his GMs destruction. But this isn’t a normal owner, or a normal job. Lindy is the most knowledgeable hockey man in the building that Terry will listen to

I don't see lindy being willing to punt a season to prove a point. Maybe he gains pegulas ear, but the players are even less happy which no coach wants.

I’m not sure why he feels its low event. We’re just not getting high danger chances. But we’re certainly surrendering them. To steal a football phrase…. They’re losing the battle in the trenches. In this case that applies to the areas in and around both nets.

We’re currently …

27th in HDCF/60
22nd in HDCA/60
A well known reporter who shall remain nameless went after me for saying their metrics were awful and they are very lucky just to be NHL .500.

Welp...

I think it's just our roster. Even if some players may look sluggish due to injuries or other reasons. And the coaching staff, which is basically the same, only Appert came in and Christie left (if I'm not mistaken). This is not Ruff's staff.

Seeing the Islanders absolutely plant people who got around their crease was refreshing since most of the time we Sabre fans are subjected to panicked, chaotic stick reaching and general watching.

I still don't understand how Wilford is still here.
I’m all for changing the defensive coach. But a new coach can’t make this group bigger and physical. Thats a roster construction issue.

I thought trades were “impossible” before the deadline. Go f*** all the way off Adams (and no this isn’t particularly about acquiring Jiricek, it’s about making a move for a top 6 forward before your team falls out of the playoff hunt AGAIN)

True true. Wimpy permeates the d-core.
Just one example and what is the reason.

Dahlin in season 22-23: 78GP - 105 Hits

Dahlin in season 23-24 81GP - 195 Hits

Dahlin in season 24-25 24GP - 26 Hits

I see a serious decline, especially since last season. But there must be some reason for such a decline in hits, can't, doesn't want to, the coach tells him to play less physical? I just want to understand. With Power, it's clear, we knew he wasn't a physical player. Byram is not very physical either. Jokiharju is not either, Bryson is not either.

Dahlin looks like whatever mid body thing he is dealing with is still something he is dealing with.

I dunno, the last few games have looked to me like they're trying to play hard and trying to do the right things. There's just a critical point on most of these plays where they need their sticks on the ice or know where their linemates are/are going to be, and they whiff, miss the net or make a bad pass, and it turns into a 4 on 1 goal against.

Frustrating as it is that this is all probably leading to another playoff miss, overall I kinda don't hate the direction they're going as a group. Lindy is pushing them towards the right way to play, just none of it matters if they keep flubbing the last step.

Funny how the goals dried up once Tage got back. Think they either need him scoring goals, or they need him out of the lineup to get that kinda underdog mentality back.

People seem to have learned all the wrong lessons from that fluke west coast run where they got insane luck and played two of the worst teams in the league. Tage coming off of injury playing 3 games in 4 days is not optimal and it's not a surprise he's not back to his prior level where he was singlehandedly carrying the team. They simply are incapable of scoring without Tage.

I’ve now watched two coaches in a row sacrifice offense completely to get them to play mediocre team defense. Something they feel is 100% necessary because the defensemen are a defensive liability from top to bottom.

These players can’t do it. They can’t generate quality scoring chances while trying to play a 200 foot game. And they don’t even play that game well. The options are average defensive team with no offense. Or high even hockey that they are around average at too depending on how the goalie bails them out.

The roster sucks. Saving cap space to keep it intact sucks. And it won’t happen btw…they can’t keep running it back. So they saved that money to help themselves fail and excuse not spending it in the future as they are forced to rebuild anyway.

It’s a f***ing grift.

This is concerning. It would have been nice to see Ruff bring in some guys like McKee or Boughner(with Detriot) Some people that can instill what is missing with this team.

Teams rarely trade #1 or #2 centers are here we have Buffalo trading away Eichel, ROR, MIttelstadt.

Management just keeps sabotaging themselves.

EDIT: Jack Eichel is leading the NHL in scoring for centers.
Looks like that surgery went well.
