I’ve thought about the hypothetical 2C addition a bit since the last game and I like the ROR idea the most. Get someone who’s done it before and can fill a leadership role on a young team.
The million dollar question about ROR is what does Terry think of him given how things went during his first time in Buffalo.

There were rumors that the owners wanted ROR gone.

Oh no problem at all. And a message board is harder than speaking to pick up on subtle implications.

MN is somewhat (perhaps anachronistically) renowned for "Minnesota Nice" where they use less confrontational language. Buffalo is somewhat in this same speech family; but I think most of the posters here don't display it lol.

We'll soon see, quoting them is likely to summon them here.

f*** you I’m nice *insert insult here*. Now let’s go for a beer.

There might be a lot of Italian influence here with how we talk, as it’s like that here when on the clock vs. off the clock

Yeah, could be the case. I heard back in the day that he and the youth didn’t get along, so maybe ownership came down on the other side of it

The conditions Portzline lays out for a possible Jiricek deal are a similar-aged top 10 pick.

The one guy that seems to qualify there would be Quinn. I'm not sure dealing Quinn for someone else they have to wait seasons on before he's up to speed at the NHL level is really the way.

I mean it's no secret now that if you want out of Buffalo you just let it out you lost the passion to play or don't want to play here. That gets back to the owner who tells the GM to trade the player.

Another reason...

I would say the two chances of a ROR reunion are slim and none.

The attractive part would be tooling an offensive player into a large RHD. I wanted Jiricek bad at the draft.

I think they could look at a variety of options, depending on the player they're offered. I'm not fixated on Jiricek by any means, and I'd like to improve the starting lineup first, but we just have so many forwards prospects that there won't be room for them even in Rochester soon, let alone Buffalo. By the way, the Devils have Nemec and their RD is full, maybe they didn't expect such a great game from Kovacevic, but there could also be a potential logjam at the RD position, and then there's Casey, he's supposedly an offensive PP QB.

Yeah, Trouba at some retention is one of the guys I worry would be possibly on the Sabres radar. He only played for Ruff for one year in NY though (Ruff ran the defense for David Quinn) but there is some familiarity.

Maybe it wouldn't suck.

But probably, yeah it would.

Well I don't know, I think he's always been bad at defense, he certainly hits (sometimes stupidly), he probably has some leadership qualities, I'm just not sure he's a reliable partner for Owen Power. I have my doubts about this.

Drury is still trying to find a way around Trouba and Kreider each having a 15 team No-Trade list.

Good luck with that.

:sarcasm:
Trouba seems to have some kind of situation with his wife and her studies, so this list may not be standard.

His wife is in her last year of a medical residency at a hospital in NYC and they have a newborn child together.

Trouba took a ton of flak from Rangers fans all offseason because he was not open to being traded because of those specific family considerations.

Given Trouba's cap hit and how he would not be happy if he were traded, I would be surprised if another GM traded for him and tried to force him to play elsewhere right now.

Has Trouba fallen off to the point where he couldn't play ~15 min 5v5 with Power and PK?

If the Rangers retained like $2M....Trouba at 6M for the next 2 years might be OK? And given our proximity to NYC, I could see Trouba actually waiving to come here.

Schneider is/was another guy on the Rangers who I've always had a bit of my eye on. He'd fit right in with the team age-wise......but again, I'm not sure if he's progressed any or has stalled......

Last year was pretty rough for him. This year seems to be a bit better. *shrug*

And yes @Jim Bob, his wife's career and schooling was a big reason he wanted to go to NY in the first place. Since I can't see the Rangers trading within the division the next closest short flight destinations are Boston or Buffalo. Buffalo can soak some cap, Boston can't really.

Trouba doesn't fit my thought of what sort of partner Power would need either.
Trouba with an asset I'd take, even at full freight. He's over paid, but he's also over played in NY.

Power needs a puck retrieving partner.
Well, I mean he's experienced and physical, Ruff knows him, for me he's a controversial guy because of his defense. But in theory he could be the same Zucker for our defense. When we signed Zucker I didn't believe in him, I thought why him, he didn't have the best defensive metrics, and he seemed to have a weak season in the bottom 6 in Arizona. But in the end, look how it turned out. I think if Ruff says yes, then this is the option when you trust the coach's decision, trading for a player he knows, especially since he won't cost much or it's not clear what value he has now.

I'm torn on what he could use. There is the defensive side of things where I don't know if he's ever going to have the instincts to close with and contest space around his own net, to kill plays, etc.... And then there is the brilliance of his ability to move the puck up the ice which having the puck on his stick would emphasize.

Over the years of watching him, the guy who seemed to make him tick the best (covered for him around the net, killed plays, deferred to OP's breakouts) was Blankenburg at Michigan who was small but fiesty, mobile in his own right, and a little demon around his own zone. I can't seem to find an established NHLer who fits handedness and fit honestly. A guy who can kill a play and move the puck to him while not being disengaged to the situation at hand would be the wider scope.

Yup, a fast RHD who can disrupt zone entry but is nimble enough to cover more than his share of the ice. Those just aren't available.

Basically what Myers -should- have been, instead of being told to gain 40 lbs.

It's why Jokiharju and him are so awful together. Jokiharju can do none of those things well. With Dahlin he works cause you can't just pressure Dahlin, Jokiharju is perfectly capable of moving the puck out of the zone.

Buffalo's thing is being a fast team.

PS
Could you post the card for Jokiharju?
But I noticed that these cards change after each game.
