He's got a great future as a top-4 RHD, which is the most obvious hole in our roster.

He turns just 21 later this month though. The youngest team in the league won't improve by getting younger.
Maybe - but which defense on our roster now is better than him at that 4 spot with power right now??

Yeah, looking over their roster Pittsburgh does look like a bad trade partner.
Except for pettersson who would be great on our d

We are 2 points away from a standings seat that has home ice advantage in the playoffs

Kevyn for the love of god get this team some help, one more good player. they deserve it man, tell them and us you're all in.

A top-4 RD would make this team very intriguing. Joki is the obvious weak link, and I'm sure Ruff isn't blind to it.

I will say, Byram, Dahlin, and Power all being strong skating defensemen who can transition the puck well and produce offensively is a unique advantage we have over a lot of teams. I have to wonder if that's the foundation of our defense for the next 5 years +. Hopefully, Byram isn't too expensive. The offensive output makes me nervous he's going to get a PAYDAY.

I’m going to go ahead and state the obvious. Now would be a great time to invest in the roster. They sat on a ton of cap two years ago at the deadline and missed by a game. Then ran it back and regressed. Don’t sit on the Skinner savings. If any of these half decade long talks have them anywhere near a quality top 4 RHD…do what it takes. ASAP.

Show the team you have faith in them and make a move as a reward
I'm all for it if something's available but I'm not going to get angry when nothing is done. Nothing is likely to happen til closer to the trade deadline. The deals that get done now are depth moves. Thats not going to move the needle.

With the way they are playing I have no interest in reclamation projects either.

if we are well over 500 ka ruff and karmanos will add one or two BIG pieces that fit w character and were what they didn't get at draft day

expect it

He's in the AHL. He can't crack the CBJ lineup.

What does that suggest?
That he needs to work on his leg strength and skating. In reality, trading Jiricek doesn't mean he's going to be in our top 4 right away, it's an investment in the future. Players like that are pretty rare, if we can get him without weakening our roster, I'd consider it.

Does Novikov get a shot or does he have to wait for someone on The Great Left Wall to get injured. I think this is his feeler year when he gets 5 or 6 games

It seems like Sens have hit a bit of a hole, I wonder when they'll be ready to shake things up a bit.

Do we have to get a "defensive defenseman" if we want another? What are some examples of teams that were too heavy with offensive guys on the back-end?

It seems like the consensus is to get a big/stay at home guy since we have Dahlin, Byram and Power, but would it be the worst thing in the world to have another puck mover?

That aside, what about oleksiak?

Well, I gave the example of Vegas recently. They have Pietro, Hanifin and Theodore in the top 4. None of them are defensive defensemen, and the Hanifin - Pietro pair suffers in defense, our first pair Byram - Dahlin in this regard is much better. But they also have McNabb in the top 4, sometimes Whitecloud (Hague got injured and Whitecloud entered the top 4). We have Jokiharju and Bryson, who are not like McNabb and Whitecloud in terms of physical play and level of play.

I think we need a right-hander. Ruff said that he does not like it when guys play on the wrong side, also there is not a single team in the NHL where the top 4 are all left-handed. Oleksiak is a left-hander.

I'm not just stuck on "big defensive guy who's reliable and hits." Then the options for that criteria are much smaller. I think there are some interesting options, but it would probably have to be a player who's decent at defense, right-handed, that's all that matters to me personally, but I don't know what criteria are important for Ruff. Maybe a guy like McNabb, or maybe someone else.

I agree. Being a right hand Defenseman he would be a good investment for the future. Apparently he needs to work on his skating.

Are they playing better defense with Samuelsson out of the lineup? I'm wondering about his usefulness long term. He seems to miss about half the games every single season though, so maybe it doesn't matter.

Put me down for a top 4 RHD. I'm actually pretty content with our forward group, although if there's a good trade to be had then grab it. But I'm more than willing to pay up for a defenseman. preferably a righty to play alongside Power with significant NHL experience.

I’m okay with keep playing cozens and Quinn because the team doesn’t have much of a choice. So I’m good with the forward group because I have to be. A top 4 RHD is such a glaring need it’s ridiculous

I thought Adams likes Joki and is only looking for top 6 F. :sarcasm:

If seriously, finding a top 4 RD that suits us is much more difficult than finding a top 6 F, I think even finding a 2C will be much easier.
