It's reasonable to expect a fourth-rounder to be a sole point-per-game scorer; their entire team doesn't have a single ppg player! what a bust

forgot /s
It's reasonable to expect a fourth rounder never to become even an AHLer, much less a good bet to make the big club. If Alriksson is going to justify expectations that he'll outperform his draft status, he needs to start producing points.

But he's never going to be a productive offensive guy
a pure 4th liner at best!

Obviously there are more than just top flight offensive players amongst prospects. But there is a lot of evidence to support the fact that players - especially forwards - who make the NHL usually have at least one season of point per game plus offensive prowess in junior ranks. There will always be outliers, and Alriksson’s physical tool box will certainly see him get some opportunities and looks, but the promise there certainly will magnify if he can be a consistent top offensive player at the junior level.

Guelph getting shut out today so far in the 3rd. Such a different game against the London knights... such a dull game. The top line with Alrikkson that they are now calling the LAN LINE not looking connected this game.

Could have been a highlight goal by Alriksson when he when around one player and split the defense but alas, couldn't pick the corner.

Sam Cosentino's fall rankings are out on Sportsnet for the 2025 entry draft.

Assuming the Canucks are good enough to be drafting anywhere from 23-28 in the first round, there are some interesting players, some with WHL connections.

Beginning at #23, there's Justin Charbonneau out of the QMJHL; Adam Benak, a tiny center out of Youngstown in the USHL; Lyndon Lakovic, a big 6'4" left winger from the Moose Jaw Warriors; Cameron Reid, a Kitchener Rangers d-man; and of course Cameron Schmidt, an undersized winger from the Vancouver Giants, who's torching the WHL the moment.

And for interests sake.....Nathan Behn, a right wingers from the Kamloops Blazers is the 28th ranked prospect, according to Cosentino.

Know next to nothing about these guys.....but maybe regular WHL watchers can enlighten me. Any interest from the Canucks in some of the local kids? Or are they likely to deal their first rounder once again?

I gave you a like, but I would have prefaced what you said with "probably". His strange skillset and size says he has a real chance at being an outlier.

Regardless of the typo, what was the intent of the comment? Could not decipher it.
oh ok .. i guess that needs explaining. subscribed means, bought on to your idea, subscribing to wait for updates to see it actually unfold. something like that.

Everyone talks about his size but if he can't get it done in the OHL in his age 19 season what exactly are his pro prospects?

Basically a longshot and if he was on another teams pipeline we would just dismiss him as such.

Continuously reading Arliksson, not a ppg = bust! will be exhausting for the next three years....unless he is traded.
A 4th round pick who doesn't make it isn't a bust. A bust has to be a pick that doesn't meet expectations.

I'm tired of posts saying that Alriksson is going to be a force in the NHL. I sure hope that happens, but it's at best an odd evaluation when he's in his D2 season, turns 20 in three months, and he isn't yet a force in the OHL.

I am a pretty big fan, and even I recognize that he has about a 20% chance at a NHL career. But I think he will get a taste at least, and probably as early Christmas next year. Admittedly he should be getting more points in the OHL, though a 4 pt game was nice.

Edit -

strong points:. Size. Skill set. Good things were said about him at every level of training camps this year.

Weak points: should be producing more at the level he is at. Should show some snarl, use his size to his advantage.

Edit 2 - quote from Head Coach

Rick Tocchet, the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, has expressed excitement about the development of Vilmer Alriksson, a young prospect for the team:

  • Impressed by Alriksson's game: Tocchet has said that Alriksson's game is going to grow, and that he's impressed by his physicality, strong hands, and ability to get the puck off the wall.

Encouraged Alriksson to get involved: Tocchet challenged Alriksson to not be a bystander and to get involved.

  • Excited about Alriksson's growth: Tocchet said that Alriksson's growth has made him excited.

Agreed. He’s a long shot unless he has a dominant OHL season.
The most positive thing I’ve seen so far was his performance at camp where he stood out as one of the better prospects and was getting singled out by management and the coaching staff for praise.
But unless the offense is there he probably has a ceiling as a fourth line kind of guy if everything goes right for him.

All I see is that the beatings will continue until his ppg improves.
wheres the fun in that

and Why is Patterson not receiving the same treatment?
Nobody is saying that Patterson is going to have an impact in the NHL. At least not recently.

I like following the prospects, right down to the late picks and the undrafted guys. It's fun.

Some find it fun to have unrealistic expectations about those prospects, and they're irritated when those expectations aren't shared or are contradicted. I find that strange.

"Alriksson looks like he's going to be a force in the NHL!"

"He'll need to put up more points in the OHL for that to seem likely."

"Why can't I have fun?"

Again, the beatings will continue until his points improve;
it is very blended and provides nothing to the discussion
Or, in other words, you don't want people to dare to disagree with you. (Hope that's not too "blended" for you.)

You want to forbid realistic opinions/projections. It's not a "discussion" you're looking for.

iI’m not disagreeing with anyone; I don’t like his production right now, just like all of you.

However, I don’t see the point in continuously bashing this guy with the sole argument that "PPG equals bust.

" He’s certainly not helping his own situation, but the argument that "PPG equals bust" has been going on for

two years now,

and it’s just frustrating and repetitive.

willander is a great example of this. almost everyone who watches him play regularly has some mild reservations about his play but the thread is filled with people who watched some youtube highlights or a couple wjc games and get upset when it's discussed. i get people like to debate but getting upset at someone else's opinion is pointless

i think alriksson is an extreme long shot to the point where i don't think he's really worth following (unless and until he starts to show more promise) but i 100% agree here. let people who are excited about him be excited about him. his production doesn't need to be brought up everytime he is mentioned

OP was responding to a poster saying that Alriksson was likely to play in the NHL next season.

His production isn't brought up every time he's mentioned. It's likely to be brought up when someone says he's likely to contribute, and soon, in the NHL. And that's not a figurative "beating." It's a disagreement. An objection to that disagreement even being expressed is an effort to shut down discussion.
