Careful your insecurities are showing. If you think the ask for PLD is less that what you paid for Dach you are crazy.
Dach had a career high 9 goals and a glowing 26 points. He came with an injury risk and Chicago was ready to dump him since he was strongly trending as a bust (which he hasn’t disproved yet). The Canadiens gave up the 13OA pick, the 66OA and they 98OA to the islanders for that?
PLD on the other hand has had 3 seasons of 60+ points (5 if you are one of those “Habs pacing” jokers. Constantly scores 20+ goals, drives play, isn’t made of glass like Dach. He is a true power forward that wins more than Dachs dreadful 37%. There is a reason that PLD makes 6m and Dach doesn’t. They aren’t even close to the same player and PLD has waaaaayyyy more value than Dach.
So tell me again how PLD isn’t worth 5OA. I would bet Chevys ask was 5OA + a prospect. Likely someone like Guehle. It is pretty obvious that Hughes was too cheap to pay the price. He also realizes that Michkov is going to be the only top player available when the Habs draft at 5OA. He knows if he drafts him, there is zero chances he comes over after his time in Russia. That means right now…he is panicking. He is missing out on PLD, he is missing out on Michkov, and he will have to take some guy from the lower tier of players, that won’t be in the NHL for at least 3-4 years. Now his development has stalled. So what did he try…let’s put out a rumour that he wants to move up and trade for Anaheims pick so he reduces his risk on Michkov not reporting. Anaheim, Columbus and San Jose have all hung up the phone on those trades. No one wants Beck, Mesar, Mailoux cause they are B prospects and every team has better players in their pipeline.
So it looks like Hughes has played his last card, and is out of options. LA is offering a way better package, and Montreal is out. Looks like the price for PLD just went up. Sucks to be Montreal. Didn’t this happen wit Brière, Lecalvier, St Louis and dozens others? You would think they would learn.
