We’d be adding a 1st to add a local kid who’s younger. But anyways, gonna back away from the convo because clearly it’s a touchy subject for some.
If the first is the 5th OA pick, then we can talk. And even then, you'd need to pay for Dubois too.

Anderson would be no better than our fifth best winger, yet he makes 5.5 for four more years. That is f***ing hideous, and you're somehow ignoring a blatantly obvious issue like that. Come on.

Your proposal is as bad as me saying that Schmidt + pick #18 for Guhle would be a decent upgrade for you and your playoff aspirations next year.

If you think you’d get a 5OA for PLD you’re going to be thoroughly disappointed.

offers us a late 1st + cap dump
gets rejected
says were touchy and he will back out
comes back 30 minutes later
all while posing in a thread that has nothing to do with pld or the habs
:help:

if people wanted to see bad offers they would go to the main boards...

Nobody actually expects that high a return for PLD. Expecting to get him for 31 + Anderson is just as bad.

31 is a 1st rd pick but obviously, not all 1sts are equal.
31 + Anderson with a couple of mil retention would be fine as the second and 3rd pieces in a package headed by something a lot better than either of them.

I think the two teams should be able to iron it out. The key will be PLD extending for a contract similar to Suzuki/Caufield. If he’s willing to do that, I think we will pony up.

Main board is a better location to grind out a tougher pretend negotiation. This is safe spot Jets fans get to be joyfully delusional.

That's fair, I do think #5OA is a big ask and likely won't happen but I'm still hopeful some other team will overpay for him. I think he'll also take the money and re-sign long term there. Behind Suzuki there is an injury-proned Dach and a guy in Dvorak who didn't really pan out. There's also no generational goalie there to save the day anymore.

Let's not pretend there isn't risk on both sides if this "sure thing" doesn't go through from Montreal's side.

Depending on how the draft pans out for us at #18 this year and there's no obvious pick I really wouldn't mind trading down and trying to get some draft capital.

There might be 4-5 who all rate =, so no obvious pick. Trade down though and you get a prospect who rates < than any of them. You drop a tier. Is an additional, much later, pick going to compensate for that?

Careful your insecurities are showing. If you think the ask for PLD is less that what you paid for Dach you are crazy.

Dach had a career high 9 goals and a glowing 26 points. He came with an injury risk and Chicago was ready to dump him since he was strongly trending as a bust (which he hasn’t disproved yet). The Canadiens gave up the 13OA pick, the 66OA and they 98OA to the islanders for that?

PLD on the other hand has had 3 seasons of 60+ points (5 if you are one of those “Habs pacing” jokers. Constantly scores 20+ goals, drives play, isn’t made of glass like Dach. He is a true power forward that wins more than Dachs dreadful 37%. There is a reason that PLD makes 6m and Dach doesn’t. They aren’t even close to the same player and PLD has waaaaayyyy more value than Dach.

So tell me again how PLD isn’t worth 5OA. I would bet Chevys ask was 5OA + a prospect. Likely someone like Guehle. It is pretty obvious that Hughes was too cheap to pay the price. He also realizes that Michkov is going to be the only top player available when the Habs draft at 5OA. He knows if he drafts him, there is zero chances he comes over after his time in Russia. That means right now…he is panicking. He is missing out on PLD, he is missing out on Michkov, and he will have to take some guy from the lower tier of players, that won’t be in the NHL for at least 3-4 years. Now his development has stalled. So what did he try…let’s put out a rumour that he wants to move up and trade for Anaheims pick so he reduces his risk on Michkov not reporting. Anaheim, Columbus and San Jose have all hung up the phone on those trades. No one wants Beck, Mesar, Mailoux cause they are B prospects and every team has better players in their pipeline.

So it looks like Hughes has played his last card, and is out of options. LA is offering a way better package, and Montreal is out. Looks like the price for PLD just went up. Sucks to be Montreal. Didn’t this happen wit Brière, Lecalvier, St Louis and dozens others? You would think they would learn.

PLD isn't worth the 5OA in this draft. Teams in that position are building and want the cost control of a top player starting from the beginning of their ELC. onward. PLD has had an uneven trajectory and no team is going to fully mortgage the future on him. He will get something in the mid 1st round and a good but not great prospect, or maybe a young player once highly regarded that hasn't fully proven themselves. Hi isn't a goldmine waiting for a trade.

So you are saying Dach was worth 13OA, 66OA, and 83OA cause Montreal is still in the same boat as they were last year. Right now with 5OA Montreal has to go for Michkov, who may never play for them. If they don’t have the balls to pick a guy from the top tier of players, then they are looking at a player that is more of a reach that would be a calibre of Slaf who looks a bigger bust than what hab fans think Lafreniere is for NYR.

So it all depends on what risk you want to take. Michkov, a lower tier player who isn’t a guarantee or PLD. The only player to guarantee to play at a level that a known is PLD. I don’t see any player in their pipeline that is going to step up and make a difference for next year or for another 3-4 years. So they are stale for their growth. So for you to say he isn’t worth it is a joke. Debrinct was with a 7th and he is a winger. With your reasoning Kyle Connor isn’t worth anything either, or how about mcdavid or Mathew’s, cause they are more expensive.

For as much as Habs fans over rate their prospects that have never played a game in the league, some Jets fans under rate our own player, and you are definitely one of them that constantly does that.

PLD is a pending UFA with 1 year of team control. You only get so much for that even if he agrees to sign with the team. He is not getting you anywhere near 5th OA. He hasn’t proven near that type of value.

You didn’t answer my question but hey Matthews is a UFA so I guess I got your answer. We should offer our 1st, harkins and maybe a couple prospects cause I am sure they would be all over that. Maybe you want to throw out the uneven trajectory excuse which is a load of crap too.

I sure hope you are a car salesman cause if you are I am coming by tomorrow to offer you peanuts for that luxury SUV…cause you know gas is expensive, insurance and it’s only going to depreciate as soon as it is off the lot.

Jets have a lot of work to do if they are going to match Chicago’s sell off for Bedard.
What numbers should I pick this week?

They don't think he's a bust, they think he's biding his time, hiding his potential so Montreal can get him for free.

Mathews’s is an order of magnitude worth more than PLD. We can’t pretend that PLD is worth a big return just because we want him to be.

So where is the line drawn? Dach with 26 points is worth 13, 63 and 86, Debrinct is worth 7th but PLD isn’t worth anything close because of his trajectory? How about Kyle, or Ehlers, or are they worth nothing? Maybe I have to pick players other teams…Aho, Pesce, are all ours? Maybe we could have gotten Bratt or Meier for a second….10m qualifying offer…no body wants that.

PLD’s value is limited by team control. He has 1 more year and even that would be expensive. He is basically a pending UFA that we hope to get residual value from. He has also made it clear he wants to sign elsewhere. He is not worth anywhere near where you think he is.

You might not of hear, Chevy is allowing teams to discuss extensions, so your 1 year story is crap.

Must ya no one wants a 24 year old 1B center. You better call up Chevy and tell him to jump n Aho, Pence, Marchesaault, Stephenson, Carrier, Lindholm, debrusk, nylander and a pile of other players cause the are way older than PLD and I am sure we could take them for futures.

I am not saying Montreal should do it, but he is definitely reduces the risk and he definitely is worth the 5OA when you compare him to what Dach and Debrinct brought back, but you seem to be sidetracking away from those facts.

The one year story is still relevant because PLD can restrict who he wants to extend with. If he's willing to extend for the maximum like Trouba, but only for one team (like Trouba), does it matter if Chevy is letting teams talk to him about extensions? DeBrincat had 2 years left, Dach more than that. Also the draft last year was weaker than this one so teams are holding on a bit more tightly to 2023 1sts.

He is not worth the 2023 5th overall pick. I'm sure teams would like a 24/25 year old 1B centre, the issue is that 24/25 year old 1B centre is limiting the teams he speaks with, reducing his value, which is something DeBrincat and Dach weren't able to do so it was more of an open market for those guys. The guy they could get at 5th overall also fits their competitive timeline better than committing big dollars to PLD who hasn't cracked the 60ish point mark yet.

The market for player services isn't like buying a car.

So we are just over a week away from the 2023 draft. I still haven’t decided on who I want us to take in the 1st round. I like but don’t love the 17 OA slot so that is probably muting my enthusiasm a bit I guess. Once we make a selection hopefully I am pleasantly surprised.

how do you feel about 18? ;)

One player I'm having a hard time pinning down is Danielson. I've seen him ranked in the top 10 and at the bottom of the 1st round. Is it all reconciling performance versus age for him?

The other thing I was wondering was that do players from Toronto have a lower opinion of Winnipeg than those from the US? If Chevy is increasingly concerned about finding character players that will be happy to have careers in Winnipeg, will that lead us away from the OHL? To Europe, Minnesota, and the Dub?

You can rant all you want but PLD still isn’t worth a 5OA pick, especially in this draft. Why don’t you try to find a single Habs fan that agrees with you if you want to argue value?

Thanks I did the ninja edit. Its not the first time I have said #17 so perhaps we trade up one slot .

To get players to want to play in Winnipeg we have to build up a better team again. I think we will be fine and if they really don’t want to be here then trade them at the right time and do well in the trades. I think its pretty tough to figure out how the kid will eventually respond to being in Winnipeg but that is one of the reasons the regional scouts take so much time getting to know these kids.
