Legit question

Why do people think Scheifele has "character" issues. Same goes with Wheeler. Heard this a lot here and other places with out any real evidence of it. No drug issues, no running out on bills, no sleeping with other players wives/GFs. But it just seems to persist by fans

Different people have different ideas of what character means.

The Athletic prospect writers did another mock draft based on what they think the GMs will do rather than what they'd do themselves. They have the Jets picking Axel Sandin Pellikka at 18. The following 2 picks are Wood and Yager at 19 and 20 after the Jets pick.

I would prefer the Jets select Wood in that case, but wouldn’t be terribly upset with Axel Sandin Pellikka.

The reasoning was the Jets went forward the last 4 drafts but don't really have any RHD prospects in the system so he fits a need and isn't a reach there talent wise.

So, might end up with another Axel with two last names. For brevity, we should just refer to these guys as the double Axel.

I'd be happy with ASP, but would probably still go for Yager myself. I don't feel anything for Wood who is apparently a below average skater.

Is Wood a big "below average skater" in the same way that Robertson and Stone are?

Sorry for having a preference.

To be clear, I believe in talent/utility tiers in drafts. I'd guess that they're around 5-10 players of equal utility within our range of the draft. Given the choiceof a handfull of players of approximately equal talent/utility, I'd prefer to draft Centers, RHD, size, and speed. I think, all things equal, a team with size and speed can be more impactful under the right coaching, especially during the playoffs.

I'm not opposed to small or slow at all - Perfetti was a good example of a player that slipped to a spot below his "tier", he was the BPA for me (and the Jets).

So I'd probably like Matthew Wood if we had a pick in the mid-twenties and he fell into that area of the draft.

And as a final proviso, I don't know shit and neither do any of you.

The variance on Zach Benson as we move closer to the draft is still crazy to me. I get he doesn't have the ideal size, but man, the kid can play. Love the engine and compete he plays with. I lost count the number of times he stood out far and away the best player on both sides when I saw the Ice play this season.

Somebody is going to get a good one if he starts to slip a bit.

I think he's got some star qualities, in the Marchand mold (without the shenanigans). I'd be very happy if the Jets can acquire a pick or maneuver picks to find a way to draft him.

I'd love to have him to but feel there is no way he drops to 18.
