If the Jets have a chance to draft an all-star like Marchand, I'd much prefer they go for a player like Bergeron or Point. They sure seem to win more often than not.

My point is that I don't see any added value from the "playing like a jerk" dimension of a player. That doesn't make him harder to play against than players like Bergeron and Point that go to hard areas and play with skill and tenacity.I think you take the best guy and go from there. Taking a player that plays like Point doesnt mean that player becomes Point. Bergerons are pretty unique players that tend to get overlooked at lower levels because of their lack of high end offence.
I'd rather have a Marchand than a bust.

I doubt that the "best player available" is often very clear, so might as well avoid a jerk if there's another prospect or two ranked very close.I think you just take the best player and if they happen to be a jerk so be it.

Kraskovksy didn't come to the Moose.Seems like there's some interesting Russian players in our range. Anyone know why the jets avoid Russians? Seems like we're missing out on some really good prospects. Is burmistrov still leaving a sour taste even though Chevy and Co didn't draft him?
Question for you all? What's your infatuation with point based on? Viewing or stats?

Berdin did.
Kinda mixed results, but that's just the willingness to come develop in the system. After that comes the harder part of earning a spot on the Jets.
I'd be ok if they pick Svechkov but I think they'll have other great options to choose from.

Stanley and Kovacevic with Samberg as the extra can balance that out.I think the playoffs really highlight the need for size and skill on the backend. I think one maybe two undersized D in a unit who can move the puck is OK . If we are running Morrissey, Pionk, Heinola and Demelo they get destroyed in the playoffs. Size still matters on D.
Haha it's all good. I guess I'm a little bit more tolerable of the POS types.
Okay maybe a lot more. Hell, I want 2 or 3 of them on the team if we can get our hands on them...
Personally, I would rather have a guy has high skill and compete but could develop an edge or nastiness. Like a kid that grew up a bit reserved and shy and finally just let loose and came out of his shell
Some say "if you're not cheating, you're not trying". I say if you have to cheat to win, you've already lost.

I was rooting against Tampa because I wasn’t a fan of them exploiting that loophole but at the end of the day, they didn’t do anything wrong and it’s up to the NHL to address this in the offseason (which I highly doubt happens).I'm sure Lightning fans dont feel all that empty right now. Admirable, but playoff hockey is not always a graceful game. I can respect that though, Mort.

I'm sure Tampa fans just feel so morally distraught. Maybe they can fill that Cup with their tears.

Agreed.
In the context I was responding to... it is the NHL's job to get agitator/pests under control, they are only getting away with what they can.
If getting banners they don't deserve makes them happy, they are welcome to it, IMO.
That is true.
But when you trip a player to save a goal, you have broken a rule. Breaking the rules usually equates to cheating. You get a 2 minute penalty. Does that make it not breaking the rule? In that case there should be no penalty. If the ref doesn't call it, does that mean it didn't break the rule?
How is it different than spraying a bunch of sand out of a bunker and then tossing your ball out right behind it?
Up to a point I rationalize that players doing what is the accepted norm in hockey is OK. We need to draw lines somewhere that we can live in the real world. So that trip to save a goal I'm happy with - if it was my player who did it. But some players cross that line. Slewfoots, headhits, spearing, and yes, facelicking are on the wrong side of that line. In theory, the things you get supplementary discipline for are on the wrong side of that line. That theory breaks down in the real world due to brain dead administration. But that is another story.
