The 2015 NHL Jersey Awards on Along the Boards

For my latest article on Along the Boards, the rest of the staff and I ranked every home, road and alternate jersey in the NHL this season to determine the best- and worst-dressed teams in the league. Part I was published this morning, and includes the 10 teams with the ugliest sweaters. Part II will run on Wednesday, and Part III on Thursday, so keep checking back.

You can't like a jersey because it's old and then turn around and dislike a jersey because it's old.

If you want to love the Leafs jersey and hate the Devils one, fine by me. But the reasoning for both can't be "it's old".

I love the Avs color scheme.. I will agree about the edge design of the jerseys, i don't care for.. but the color scheme is unique and shouldn't be changed.

I don't mind the Devils jerseys but one point they make that I agree with is that they have AWESOME colors, and they could do a whole lot more with what they have.


Not a bad start to the list, I disagree with NSH being so low. Maybe the Jets too.

Calgary IMO deserves a place in the bottom 10 over those 2 teams. Might be forgetting a couple more.

These look like decent rankings to me so far. Agreed that the Devils have incredibly boring jerseys which doesn't help their boring style of play.

I respect that they tried to go with 2 out of left field colors that no other team really has.

I just don't like the jerseys I think mainly it has to do with the number design. Looks like a 5th grader did it.

I can only assume that the Pens' alternates are what's keeping them out of the bottom 10, because their regular home/road jerseys are awful. I can't wait until they change them.

Just to clarify on this...

It's the State of North Carolina warning flag for when there's an actual Hurricane. And I think that's cool.

Also I disagree with Nashville being that low. Quite possibly the best jerseys in the league IMO. It's a pet peeve of mine when people hate on yellow/gold gear because it "looks like mustard." I could just as easily say the Red Wings look like ketchup.

Don't care about lists like these but it shows you how awful Buffalo's jerseys are. Most would consider their logo a top 10 or maybe even top 5 logo but when put on their horrible jersey designs (pit stains, piping) it still can't save it from being terrible.

You've given too much value to 3rd jerseys, IMO.

Also, what is it with people and the Johnny Canuck logo? That thing is so lame, the orca and stick are gorgeous...

This team has gone through three dramatically different logo designs in 45 years, and it averages out to a franchise that lacks any real identity.

So the solution is a another logo?

I love the yotes jerseys. I don't understand why people hate the ducks logo, it's a ducks foot and a D, clearly designed by a professional. I understand the hate of the jerseys though. I also like the Avs jerseys think they're pretty good.

To further substantiate your point, Toronto introduced its existing jersey template in the same year New Jersey introduced theirs, lol

So, for the Avs they have a quotation stating:

This color scheme has been outdated for a decade.

But for the Ducks:

Good, not great. Nothing will beat the eggplant and jade scheme that the Mighty Ducks used in the ’90s.

Apparently everything should be like they used to be, but if they are like they used to be, then they need to be different than they used to be. Makes sense.

Seems like the writers have some kind of fetish for teams wearing red, blue and white. Can't imagine that Caps are ahead of jerseys like Sabres, Preds or Devils. Pretty lame also to take only 12 writers' opinion into account.

I'm also wondering why the highest grade 10 equals to "classic" instead of gorgeous - it's like they want the certain jerseys to win anyways.

Exactly what I came here to post. The Avs get knocked for still using a 90's color scheme, and the Ducks get knocked for not doing so. I love the classic MD jerseys, but nothing screams 1990's like eggplant and teal. I have no problem with the Ducks being ranked lower though, I think the brand new jerseys are pretty nice, but the one's they had been using until now were pretty... meh.

I think the Sabres home and away jerseys are ranked a little lower than they should be. My only real beef with those two, is the gray pit-stains. Why? Otherwise, they are not that bad.

Dead nuts about the Sabres third jersey. Just awful.

Do not agree with assertion that the Sabres should go back to Red and black. The current logo and general color scheme (blue and gold) is perfect and just classic. Unless you meant go with black and red for a third jersey, then that could be kind of cool.
