But our play has been steadily dropping off since Christmas to the point where our defense is almost non-existent at times. Also not a chance we will keep pace through February, needed to build up some room this month, but couldn't do it. Have to beat the teams below you in the standings

The pace won't last as games get very tight post all star and deadline.

Steve Rucchin and PJ Stock (goof) were talking about the 6 in 5 tonight on air during SN Hockey Central. They said before new CBA the coaches used to put money on the board for the boys to draw incentive to getting those 6 pts.
not true at all. one bad game and now the panthers' defense is non-existent?

No. I'm basing it off of almost every game since about Christmas, Winnipeg, Colorado, Calgary, Toronto, NYR, it used to be that the defense gave up one or two goals most games, but lately it seems like we have no chance to win unless we score 3 or 4, which we're not built to do on a consistent basis.

We need an extended winning streak badly. I was hoping enough things would go right this season to sneak in, but I’m starting to fear the postseason is still another year away. This is bothersome because Luongo is playing great NOW and he’s not getting younger. Not sure if a season that ends in no playoffs and no top pick is desirable at all.

I think we'll be fine.
We don't have a team that's going to contend for the cup this season.
Ideally they squeak into the playoffs, but if they are battling until the end and miss it with 96 points I won't view it as a failure.
A 30 point improvement from one season to the next is nothing to sneeze at.
And no, it's not just Luongo.

All true.
We all know the one or 2 deficiencies, thats what makes it frustrating.
Can still make the 5 gamer respectable, so fingers crossed.

Here's the thing AG.
Jimmy Hayes has more goals than Barkov and Huberdeau combined.
Why is that? Because he goes into areas that produce high percentage shots with great regularity and sometimes the puck finds its way onto his stick.
I think we need more of that - ESPECIALLY on the power play.

The +1 in the last set is huge. If we can win out in this set, we end with 54 pts in 45 games being perfectly on the 6-in-5/98-pt pace. That's what this thread is all about: making 3-game slides less scary!
I love looking at games 3-4-5 in those previous sets; not a lot of red there at all.
