On the bright side, Step gives us something to talk about.

INB4 "Team toughness".

cue Bonnie Rait

I think we should let someone offer sheet Stepan, then take that money we save and give it to Richards. I think he deserves a raise.

The Moore signing took a great chance away from Lindberg making the team. imo.

Stepan
Richards
Brassard
Boyle
Moore
Lindberg

I think Stepan, Richards and Brassard are obvious locks for spots at center. Boyle would be, too, though he's a candidate for wing. Moore or Lindberg? If Lindberg has a great camp and exhibition performance, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him make the club with Moore as a spare. And honestly, if he can't outperform Moore, then he really doesn't deserve to have a spot on the club.

I hope that Kreider will benefit from the competition that Lindberg and Hrivik present. And also remind him that he's no longer the golden child in the organization. He strikes me as a guy who needs to be reminded of that.

I don't think that was ever the case with Tortorella as the coach. There were no Golden Children sans Hank and McDonagh.

They didn't sign Dominic Moore to sit behind the clumsy likes of Brian Boyle. If Dom is in shape, he's a lock. Boyle may get shipped out, moved to wing, or benched. He will not play center on this team over Moore. As for Lindberg, until we see him against NHL level competition on the NA rink we don't really know what we have. He could end up anywhere.

I mean compared to last year this is a great problem to have.

Don't have to rush a kid because the other option is Ferriero/Newbury. But if he earns it fantastic and a serviceable player gets scratched, available as depth in case of injury.

Newbury was traded to Philly for Syvret. Ferriero signed with the Nucks.

Absolutely. It's true on the wings as well - and there the likes of Hrivik and Fast have even more opportunity as they will likely get regular season NHL action in addition to training camp to prove their worth (what with Hags and Cally each out for a month).

Barring injury, our checking line is set to be some combination of Moore, Boyle, and Dorsett. That could pass as a 3rd line on most squads. If Lindberg makes the team, it will be in a top 9 role with one of Brassard or Richards moved to the wing. My money would be on the latter.

Hattrick's point was that we a) have lots of kids pushing and b) the flexibility to play them or not, as they deserve based on their performance in camp.

That's as opposed to last year where we wound up having to play kids who appeared to be in over their heads (I'm thinking for example Miller, whose play really started to drop off after his first several games) because the next best options were Newbury and Ferreiro.

I know. Just a way of comparing it to this season when we were forced to rush Kreider and especially Miller a bit.

Gotcha, I misunderstood.

Unless OL absolutely forces himself onto the roster, I'd rather see him getting the bigger minutes in HFD than 4th line minutes with the Rangers. Though I suppose easing him in on the wing in place of Cally or Hags could be an option as well.

Still think that Hags - OL - Cally could be one of the best two-way checking lines in the league though.

Camp Day 3: Three groups for practice

a bunch of young guys are NOT listed:
jean, burke , trainor, j graves. skapski, spelling, stevenson

assume Kyle Jean is hurt, he played fist game at TC but not since,
and that Spelling is back to Europe

The only other non-tryout on the list is Skapski

Josh Graves is the only TC tryout not listed,

O'Donnell is the only one that IS listed of the 4 new names that were posted Wednesday

trainor is probably at Buffalo camp, if at any NHL camp at all, Sabres had him on their published list

the others may end up invited at Hartford camps, along side of guys like Marcou, Carroll and Andrew Rowe who formally signed with 'Pack yesterday

Nicholls was a better prospect than people gave him credit for in the ratings, as I mentioned at the time.

Boyle is a top level bottom 6 forward, one of the few that we have, so it's pretty unique to see him bashed so consistently.

There will always be injuries. So, even if Lindberg is pinched, he'll get a callup if he's playing well in the minors. This has not been a team of late where veeran blocked youth development, except in the cases of Jarkko Immonen and Nigel Dawes.

Eh, Dawes never really took the step forward he needed to, I think he got his chances

The Moore signing took a great chance away from Lindberg making the team. imo.

I don't think so. When was the last time a prospect proved he was ready for the NHL, but wasn't given the opportunity because of a full roster?

If Lindberg proves he can help this team, he'll be on the opening roster.

It is impossible for me to care less how a coach comes across in an interview because it has zero to do with results. They are not auditioning to play a coach in a film. I don't care how my doctor, lawyer or accountant interview either.

Not sure what your reasoning is behind this statement.

What the coach says in an interview and how he comes across to the media is absolutely linked to results imo, although it may not be immediate. Happens all of the time in all sports.

Not liking this "behaviour" by Stepan. Not at all. I'm absolutely certain he'll sign soon enough though.

Theres dozens of them if you go by this board, but I assume you mean in reality.
