They almost made the playoffs despite a rough beginning to the year. Bunting did really for them.

What are you talking about??
let see: overpaying for players in UFA and then the trade for Karlsson. When your team needs more defense to compliment the offense, Karlsson isnt the guy you trade for. It really doesnt matter what they gave up for him.

Dubas did nothing to improve their chances of making the playoffs from the time he took over. what are you talking about?

Dubas isnt a very good GM.

He followed the early mandate of doing whatever it takes to keep this core in the game. He did it well. Yes it’s doubling down Rutherford style to get Karlsson but he’s the right choice if you’re not going to rebuild. He was told they weren’t rebuilding. Even when they did the rebuild trade of Guentzel he got a player back that helped now.

If the mandate was to keep going, he did fine. They were a threat to make the playoffs.

Says DW is making, at least, double, possibly, triple what he made for the Canes. And, that he had many teams interested in him. Seemed a little surprised that he picked Columbus.

There's no reason a GM (or coach or whathaveyou) should be making 3 times as much elsewhere than what they make here. That kind of disparity looks really bad on the organization.

Yeah this is the kind of stuff that really makes people mad.

Being undervalued by a billionaire just because he doesn't think the position should get paid that much is really not a good look.

I was listening to some of this a little while ago and it seemed quite clear he pulled that figure out of his ass. I'm sure he's being paid more, but Gold remains a tool that passes off his speculation as fact on a regular basis. He's also quite good at the, "I knew this was happening, I never said anything, but now that it's official, I knew this was happening all along."

It's also possible that Columbus threw a stupid amount of money at him to bring him over. Not 3x a normal GM price tag I wouldn't think but double what DW was making doesn't seem as bad if it's a desperate overpay by Columbus.

Serious question: who actually gives a shit? Besides potential GM candidates and their agents and the press, I mean.

Tulsky, Yorke, and Schwartz are evidently happy enough to stay. That's the majority of the management team. No idea how much they're being paid, but it's a near certainly that the 31 other NHL teams have kicked the tires on all three of these guys, and likely others further down in the org chart.

If/when we start losing these kinds of guys, and we start seeing a general brain drain, then, and only then, will I start to be concerned.

As a person that is frequently under valued by corporate executives in my field of work it makes me mad to see it happen to anyone else.

I went back and pulled it up after seeing some of the discussion...I should have known better. Great combination of the "told you so" (minus the told part), while also throwing out some...less than intelligent off-season ideas.

I had to turn it off when he said Chatty was the number 1 must-sign UFA priority and needs to get "4, 5 years whatever it costs" because you have to play him with Slavin on the top pair. I like Chatty and would take him back on a reasonable deal, but we're in trouble if that's anywhere close to the long-term plan for the top pair.

I'm one of the folks that would be comfortable trying Chatfield at 2RD, but saying he should be Slavin's partner and just keep on adding years to get him signed is crazy to me too.

That still wasn't as bad as comparing TDA's RFA rights trade value to Guentzel's UFA rights trade value.

Then it will be too late.
