He did say the opposite for brannstrom, you're right. But he followed it up with how it wasn't an issue at all when he was with the sens back in the day. Like you said, some can do it and some can't.

I guess we need to get more versatile D?

Looking at the 4 I mentioned, 2 of them had no problem excelling on their off side.

I also don't remember it being as much of an issue. I don't recall publications differentiating LD from RD because if they were good, they could do both, for the most part.

Speaking of this...anyone see Chabot and Giroux at the point on the powerplay with both on their one timer side, and Giroux asked and called for a switch...why would we ever switch to get out of the one time position...that is much more dangerous on the powerplay. I used to always see redden and Alfie switch to get on their one timers...not to get off their one timer side.

Why do we never set up for one timers on the pp? We don't have Josh on the half boards like a couple years ago...we didn't use chychruns big shot on the point last year.

I see other teams being deadly with one timers but we never seem to use them.

Liked when Alfredsson/Karlsson/Gonchar were setting up one timers too.
It’s harder in the D zone on your offside D, and easier in the O zone.

Can it be done yea, just not as well.
Now Sens have a good balance on both sides.

It’s baffling.

I know and understand why, but it’s baffling.

Green isn’t an idiot, he knows more about hockey than everyone posting here. He’s got 20+ years of a playing career and 15+ years of coaching.

He can see it. He has guys in management who can see it. He has analytic guys who can read it.

It’s very upsetting that we can’t seem to make the obvious choices.
Well it’s probably not just Green deciding, it’s likely a discussion among the coaches.

Analytically we don’t have access to the Sportlogiq numbers, which they have hundreds of, that fans don’t have access to, that provide a lot more info on.

Might get some better ideas on addressing consistency if you put this on a main board . @Adrianopolous can give you a hand.

Not sure I understand the point of the thread other than "Step right up and place your Vent Here"

So 12 games in where we have played some excellent hockey and laid a bit of an egg in the last one many are at trade a core piece?

I really like the acquire a player that can put the team on his back. Easy to do I guess. Anyway McDavid / Draisaitl and MacKinnon two premiere studs in the league are currently early in the season on sub .500 teams .. and that is with MacKinnon/Makar 1-2 in NHL scoring.

We are until we're not, just like we saw against the Habs and the Sabres. That's why I made this post.

Not waiting until we're below .500 at Christmas.
What does this even mean? We made huge sweeping changes this past offseason. Are you suggesting we make more changes 11 games into the season because we're .500? When do you stop? This is insanity.

I'm asking what is the solution to this team's consistency issue, and that includes trades. Nowhere did I say this needs to happen right now. That's just you imagining things.

If you watched tonight's game and don't think this thread is relevant, then I don't know what to tell you.

If anything I'd say this Sens team has been the most consistent out of any in the last decade.

Leading up to the Sabres game I think there was legitimately only a couple games out of the 11 they had played where they didn't show up (against the Habs and Avs).

They could have easily won the games against the Devils, Knights and Rangers, and the latter two they should have won if goaltending and some bad bounces didn't get in the way.

We're only at .500 but I've been very pleased with team performance thus far. We play like this all season and we'll make the playoffs if Ullmark turns things around.
we were 11-11 last dec until we went on a huge lose streak The sens are once again letting opportunity slip away. Its easy to get wins early in the year but once nov comes a lot of the good teams are locked in. We need to be there

You're just a really bitter old man dude. This thread will become more and more relevant as we get through the first 15-20 games and you'll still be in here trying to pick a fight with me lol.

I would start by trading Giroux. Poor guy deserves a chance to win. He's been nothing but consistent for us. The only truly consistent player. But this team ain't learning shit at this country club. Like I said in the last game day thread. I'd bag skate them every time the lose, otherwise. They need to feel some pain. They need to be taken out of their comfort zone.

I don’t think effort is the issue. They just crumble at the most crucial moments of the game. It’s mental.

They watch the puck too often, rather than wanting it. We can call that mental if you like. When they actually started wanting the puck and began controlling in the third, we got back in the game. This team needs to stop being f***ing puck watchers. They did it for the past three seasons.

It's trying to balance effort with structure. It's a very difficult balance to find. Tonight, you could tell they were focusing on the system, the structure, and not letting their emotions pull them away from the system. It's only with more reps that they get more comfortable within their system and can play with passion within it. That's why it's too early to panic.

Agreed we should wait another few months to watch the same garbage captain and company go on a tear to winning hockey on some miracle run. Or maybe the first dozen games count and if you suck then, you probably suck later too. Team looked fantastic for a stretch but back to same old game, maybe good enough for 8th seed but probably not. We are worse than the wings who are also a trash hockey club bound for mediocrity. At least the leafs had some regular season success. Ottawa sucks, maybe another 7 years we are relative again.

Ah yes, the ol' sEvEn YeArS argument, when we have all new players, a new owner, a new GM, a new coach, new jerseys, a new logo. Literally the only things left that are the same as 7 years ago are Tomas Chabot, the team name, and the arena.

Nobody in the organisation gives a shit that it's been "seven years", nor should they.

Sorry I counted this year as Brady’s 7th year. So six years behind us, and 7th year still can’t play defence as we have seen so far. You are right, let’s be garbage for a few more decades and still cheer for “summer of dorion” like a good little fan boy for going from basement to just below playoffs. Go team!

Okay, so what do you suggest we do besides trading Chabot? Change the team name? Because a new arena is on the way. The team name is literally the only thing left we haven't changed.

Our best players aren’t our best players. When you’re impressed with Kleven and Gregor but Takchuk and Sanderson are invisible and your starting goalie has the graveyard disease.

Today the fans base is talking about Travis Hamonic being bad when they should be talking about Ullmark, Brady and Sanderson not being star players they are paid to be

Lol lots of people care that its been 7-8 years...even within the organisation. Plenty of representatives, such as Mendes, have made reference to the 7-8 years and that the fans have been through a lot.

Why on earth would you ignore the 7-8 years? You know that meme where there's a puppy in a burning building and he says "this is fine"...is that meme made up after you?

Do a proper build. Simple.

For the first while we traded all the players we drafted never prompting a proper build (Zibanejad, Silverberg, Lehner, bishop, stone etc) So it started a second rebuild that we traded away all our top picks for useless players. (Debrincat, chychrun, Murray, etc)

How about we do a proper build. Get a proper coach. Don't piss away all assets, etc.

Go back to being a team that is a good example for the league.

We have already been shit for 15 season that resulted in us trading away our core players other teams love. There is not much left to do but live with lowered expectations.

Bad management gets you here. Murray was not a good GM just average, and Dohrion made the league better. I don't think Staios will be the answer.
