Anyone see the back of Demkos mask? For one he has the Gaudreau Brothers initials on the back which is very classy of him.
He also has the Canucks retired banners on the back, Smyl, Linden, Bure, Naslund and the Sedins. While someone wearing a Luongo jersey is staring at the open spot for a banner. I'm guessing this is Demkos way of insinuating Luongos name should be in there amongst the Canucks greatest aswell.

Pretty neat
Too bad #1 is McLean who Id rank higher

Not that I start anything... but Luongo was the far superior goaltender.
For their eras. They were both amazing. Kirk was a master at stand up with his small gear and heavy pads with the fastest reflexes. Roberto was in that last group of elite goalies that isnt a thing anymore.

It's a huge loss, and people in the management circles know about this too, there was rumblings 2 seasons ago of a GM suggesting that he won't go near Demko, saying that his playstyle will hurt his hip, now we know that it's more than that, his knee needs to compensate for the hip issues.. Which further depreciates his value. So I don't really know what we can do if his market value is lower than the value he gives us when he is healthy. Do we keep him until he walks to UFA? Or will Allvin manage his asset and trade him for market value while he is still valuable to the team..... and risk public outrage?

All of this lays the blame somewhat on the feet of Clarke, which puts him in this current uncomfortable situation where he is quasi demoted.
there was a long and detailed discussion around a year ago that touched on the "post and cover" goaltending style.

this < link > describes it.

in a nutshell, it's been the "accepted" style for a few years now because it covers the vulnerable net areas best on incoming plays.

the mostly unknown drawback to that style- until recently - is that it contorts the lower body to such an extent that it poses a kind of chronic long term injury risk.

And the more moves are made that way, the more the stress becomes cumulative and chronic. That's the bottom line with post and cover.

probably why the last goalie coach was replaced; about-face to a new style.

There are also other "secret" procedures that many top goalies undergo to make themselves optimally flexible. This isn't discussed openly.

All told, giving Lanks a *very* good extension would probably be the wise investment.

Players that have injury catch up to them can always go into coaching and it's not as bad as it seems. They also get benefits

ps. wasn't that goalie coach's fault or anything, it was more the lack of knowledge of the injury risks to playing that style.

I'm going to cheer on Demko to get healthy and not have his career ended before it's time.
