With the Canucks fighting for a playoff spot and Demko still injured, would he be available for trade?
Would they add to a team that has been inconsistent all year?
Lankinen signed long term but would Vancouver sell low on Demko and/or retain for a player/picks of need?

Florida could use some insurance in net or allow Bobrovsky to rest leading up to playoffs if Demko is on the mend.
I'm sure other teams may be interested if he is retained and considered on the trade block?

Still has 1 year left at 5 million on his current deal.

With his health being so questionable, I can't imagine that he'd have a lot of value right now. Would make more sense for the Canucks to hold on to him and pray he can be healthy the rest of this year/into next year.

He’d hold such low value, they’d have to know he was as good as gone before moving him.

He’s been awful and a bandaid most of his career. His ceiling is high but his value is at rock bottom right now and it’s not worth trading a guy like that unless you know he will not resign.

Maybe a team looking for a stop gap to buy a little seasoning time for a young guy.

Really can’t see anyone having confidence in him as a long term option based on his tendency to be unavailable.

Demko is done. Even if he comes back this season he'll need games to get into the groove. At which point he'll get hurt again. He's only played in 17 games this year and has a pedestrian. 891 save percentage. No team looking to shore up their goaltending should be putting their eggs in that basket

Make an offer. I'm sure he'd be moved for good value or the right fit, but he and Lank are making 9.5 as a tandem next year, so we don't have a motivation to trade him without those.

It will probably take a first to unload that contract.

They could had gotten a kings ransom couple years ago.

Not sure it'd take a 1st but Florida is in a special position where they have extra cap room with Tkachuk on LTIR.
They could take Demko at full caphit this year and next if need be but likely prefer some retention.

I don't think Florida would have to burn out Demko either, he could platoon with Bob next year and possibly build back up his value again if he plays well or Panthers could use him as a stopgap for a couple years while our G prospects develop.

Was more curious if he's actually available with Lankinen signing his new long term deal and is now considered the #1 goalie in Vancouver

Vancouver isn’t paying a 1st or retaining on Demko.

Just glancing at Canucks cap breakdown for 2025-26, they have 11 mil in space but they likely lose Boeser To trade or free agency. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Are they replacing him with another free agent in July?
Feel they don't have a ton of room to upgrade so not saying they need to retain 50% on Demko but a million or 1.5 million could get them a better return.
I guess they can move Garland as well but they still need to replace and/or upgrade their top 9 forward depth in a big way.

That’s with an almost entirely full lineup. They also have a guy in Soucy who is making $3.25M that is expected to be dealt and replaced with a much cheaper Pettersson.

I agree that if they do move Demko, retaining probably increases the return, as it would with most assets. I was more saying they aren’t in a position where they need to retain if they don’t want to. I’m sure they’re fine going with a Demko/Lankinen tandem for next season.

Ok I appreciate the info then.
Just not familiar with Canucks plan going forward.
You think they sell and retool though?

Boeser and Soucy leaving would make it that much harder to make playoffs.

There is absolutely zero reason why the Canucks would attach anything to Demko to move him. That is a ridiculous suggestion

Canucks are in a good spot currently with goaltending and Demko's contract is also a good thing until he's UFA.
if you want to pry from that it's gonna cost more than anyone is gonna want to pay. It's probably a situation where this time next year they are looking at moving on if they are out of a playoff spot

His value is in the gutter.

A lower body injury that can't be fixed is bad news for an athlete... It's essentially a death sentence for a goalie.
