I don’t think it’s true that Green/the org don’t think much of him.
Staios has been pretty clear about not wanting to rush players and Bell always mentions when he’s on CIH that he’s exactly where they want him to be in his development.
I bet they want to give him the full year in the AHL and a summer to get stronger and faster and he’ll be given his opportunity to make the team in camp next season.

There's always a risk thrusting a rookie defenceman into that position, but yes I would have trusted them more. Makar is a different case entirely - he was a year older than Yakemchuk and coming off of a Hobey Baker season. He was in a different stratosphere as a prospect.
I don't remember where McAvoy was at nearly as well, but because of his mobility I would have been much more comfortable putting him out there.
He's 22 years old. The same age as Greig and Kleven.
Don't think because he's an AHL rookie that he's underseasoned.
They also had no problem rushing Ostapchuk to the NHL after a 28 point AHL season, so I don't buy that excuse at all.
I get that logic of bringing in a veteran who can play C. We've seen what happens when even one of Norris or Pinto go out.
I guess it depends on the price. I don't know if he'd be a guy in super high demand, so if you can get him for like a 3rd + Forsberg, then sure.
I mean he was drafted at 20. By definition he’s a late-bloomer and therefore not at the same place they were in their development. Kleven did a full year in the AHL, just because Halliday came along at a later age doesn’t mean they don’t want him to also have an opportunity to develop there.
Ostapchuk can play on your 4th line in limited minutes and he did all season. A bit different when you can shelter a player. Halliday has to be more NHL ready by default if they want to give him a chance to play on the 2nd or 3rd line as they should.

It happened with Zibanejad. He was up and down in his first few years with the Rangers. Called out by the coaches. Okay production, but nowhere near elite. He was 25 going on 26 when he had his first big season, then 26 going on 27 when he had that monster season that was cut short due to injuries.
We already saw Batherson reach another level a few years ago before he had the injury. I think in a different system, with more of a veteran group, he could get back to that.
He's not a late bloomer. Put up impressive USHL numbers for several years, just didn't skate quite well enough to get teams interested.
It's really inexcusable that they didn't give him a few games when Norris and Pinto were out. We were desperate for center help and for additional scoring, yet we passed on Belleville's best offensive player, who also happened to be a center.
I don't think you can hand wave that away as nothing.

Then they would of needed to skip their last year of college, unless we are comparing them as older players to Yak.

No I'm asking. Didn't realise Makar was a year older so I was thinking 3 defenseman drafted 4,7, and 14 and 4 and 14 hadn't played an NHL regular season game yet all one year post draft. Maybe 7 could do it?
That's why I was asking. But it doesn't look like Yakemchuk has developed as much as we hoped. If he was on pace for like 90 points and showing more jump out there, would he have been more likely? Perhaps?

Possibly want him to concentrate on being better defensively, since he has the worst plus minus on the team.
Also he was the most expensive cap wise to call up, so maybe that came into play as well.

Didn't realize he was a year older. My bad, that makes a world of a difference. I did notice the huge jump in that season compared to the one before, which could show he was on a skyward trajectory. Something Yakemchuk isn't exactly showing this season after a great camp.
They have said pretty plainly that Halliday is learning to play against bigger guys and how to use his body, which given his skating concerns, is probably how they feel he stands a chance of being effective. And not something he really needed to work on in college.
It doesn’t matter what we need up front if Halliday is working on areas of his game they feel aren’t yet there. If he was a great skater I’m sure he’d be up, but given his limitations he might need more time.
No idea if Halliday will stick or not but I do think they will give him a chance next year.

There’s some merit in your ideas, and maybe it's the defensive side of things they are wanting to develop more.
Edit - I see now that someone else made the same comment. LOL.
It’s a general comment, but many posters seem quick to react & are prone to trying to interpret and/or react strongly to the ups & downs of players through a season. Some peaks and valleys doesn’t seem too unusual.
We might see a lot of that & a lot of fizzle ultimately. I lean more towards a quieter TDL this year for the Sens. Just either an educated guess based on reading conditions and the tea leaves, or a guess.

TB also has pretty barren cupboards. No 1st rounder this year and outside of Isaac Howard, a lot of meh prospects.
So if they do acquire a Tuch or Bjorkstrand, I'm really curious what they're giving up.

I’d wonder what Tuch would return? I’d think if I were Buffalo, I’d want quite a lot. Buffalo “appears” to be an enigma if any of these trade rumors are true. They’ll keep endlessly spinning their wheels if they keep moving players like this imho.
Value-wise, Yakemchuk is in the same ballpark.
The problem is they only have one A prospect, as do we.

Yeah judging a prospect's NHL potential and trade value by whether they were invited/good at the WJC is not a good way of going about it.
Canada made bonehead decisions, from who they named as coach to how they constructed the team, and didn't medal. That reflects poorly on them, not any player that was passed over.
