It was nice to see Boston not taking advantage of the little Sabres likes years past. In the past, every Bruin thug would have gooned it up at the end of last nights game. But with Big John watching out, they were all civilized obedient cats. I guess gorilla Lucic didn't want to avenge Thortons beatdown either. Wonder why?
By the way, big John is worth every penny and worthy of a spot on the roster. No 4th line player will contribute more than him. He contributes even when not on the ice.

You've gotta think that whatever it is that he did to Thorton is sticking in the back of the mind of a guy like lucic, especially when after putting your teams enforcer out, he points right at you in a your next type of fashion. Everyone knows that Lucic is a coward deep down.

Still can't believe Julien threw that piece of crap out there with 13 seconds left down 7-4.

Who did we have on the ice?

Same thing as I think the Philly game, having guys (not just Scott but also Foligno, Ott, Weber, Regehr, etc) who can take care of themselves to put in for those token shifts at the end of the game can easily prevent having an important and/or soft player exposed and injured out of frustration. Hilarious to see quotes from Edwards and Marchand acting like Lindy was sending out the goon squad to cause trouble. He had to call a damn timeout to get those guys out as a reaction to who Boston sent.

My only quibble is that Ruff should have known to do that without even looking at who Boston sent. There's no reason to be playing any skill guy with 30 seconds left up by 3 against a team like Boston.

Love this guy. If we manage to squeak into the playoffs this year he is going to be VERY valuable.

Maybe, if he manages to be an every day player when the line-up is 100% healthy. But the enforcers who only play, say, 2/3rds or 1/2 of games during the regular season often never play in the playoffs. If that's the case it doesn't minimize the importance he can play in helping the team through the long slog to the playoffs, especially if the amount of cheap shots on our star players is cut down.

Too bad so sad.

Yes because cheering injuries is really cool.

I just noticed Scott is wearing 32. I'm sure Rob Ray signed off on that, but still....

bingo

Our toughness doesn't need to be dictated by our opponents actions. We should dictate it.

Step on the right direction. :). But please don't wish injury on others. It looks bad for us and we don't want that. We're the better people. But I liked what I saw. Big gorilla man Lucic didn't harass TV or Pommer. Etc. Scott made his presence known fast.

No, sad is concussing a goalie trying to clear a puck. A heavyweight getting knocked out and having his jaw rearranged is just business.

I loved every second of that short beasting and the point to the bench was amazing. I really want to see Lucic get the **** kicked out of him - I can't stand that arrogant POS.

Apparently Scott held up a single finger (non-middle) to the Bruins bench after the bought with Thornton while they were still in the box, perhaps indicating he was going to have more than one tilt last night. Seems he found no other takers. When he's got a guy's arm tied up and can let fly with those long arms of his, damn.

I hope Thornton is ok/makes a speedy recovery.

I know I'm not entirely welcome and I admit I have to gloss over and ignore much of what has been posted.

But I feel as though kudos are in order. Because you guys started a ****storm over on our boards. You played some legit tough and beat my team in every facet of the game. It hasn't often happened to us in the past couple of seasons - and it is a dramatic change from what we saw out of the Sabres last year.

So, uh... I hate your team (don't get me wrong). I hope it burns.
But I respect what you did last night. The Buffalo Sabres are now a team that has earned the right to be concerned about playing against. And as pissy as we all are over there, we all know what it was like when our team turned that corner a few years ago.

Kudos and congrats. And I can't wait for next game.

have you ever fought someone who was 8" taller and 90lbs heavier? I would suggest you give it a shot before commenting on an injury like that.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm sure typing them out was akin to chewing tinfoil but we appreciate it nonetheless heh.

Scoreboard yes. But Sabres need to play better (which means Boston outplayed us for stretches of the game).

I wonder if Chara steps up to Scott next game.

That would be a great fight and a nice trade off for Buffalo.

That's the great thing about Scott. He's so useless the only people who can take him in a fight (Chara, possibly Lucic?) are too important to even bother. If they won't fight him we've got the trump card, if they do we just traded a 4th liner for one of their best players.

Much respect for Thornton stepping up there, he's just not in Scott's class. That was like Stafford trying to fight Lucic. Thankfully for Shawn/Shaun there's not many other guys in that class.

He was christened "Big John Stud" by a Montreal media personality for instilling the fear of God in the Bruins last night.

I thought I heard him say that he was pointing at the bench and saying "this year is not last year". He placed a warning out there.

It is interesting to read a lot about this game on the main board, on the Bruins board, even the Montreal and Toronto board. The fight seems to have the following effect:

1. Other teams fans love when a Bruin gets beat down. It is like the new kid coming in and putting the school bully in his place. Partcularly fans bases are Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. Boston is proud to be the school bully. Everyone else loves to see the bully be shut up.

2. Many feel that this fight resonated throughout the league and Buffalo cannot be pushed around so easily. This is an exageration. It was big win, but all of his fights are not going to go like that. Just like he had a good grip on Thornton and was not tied up, he did not fare well against Orr because he was tied up. Scott said himself that Thornton would probably fare better next time. Regardless, it shows that they have to tangle with him if they take a liberty with anyone else. Also, if Thornton cannot go with Scott, we will take the trade off of the only two other guys that may be able to (Lucic and Chara) every single time. It creates a dilemna for Boston.

Boston created this mess. I hope that Thornton is okay. Although it is his job to take on the tough guy from another team, he can thank Lucic for this one. Buffalo probably would not have gotten Scott if not for Lucic/Miller. Thank you John Scott.

4. Many feel that Boston backed off physically after the fight. Maybe some. Boston is a very good team that had a bad game defensively. They are much better than they played. Buffalo sucked defensively too. Always good to beat Boston. Look forward to next game.

And in a related note, my son's favorite Sabre at the moment is #32, to the point of putting #32 on his Pinewood Derby car in his honor. He watched the fight hooting "That's my guy! Get him!". I may have created a chip off the ol' Chain. :biglaugh:

(He started liking him after the open scrimmage when he was wondering who the giant was on the ice.)
