In the last ten years we had 2 Cups waiting for us IMO. I mean that based on the talent that has gone through here. That’s tough to swallow as it will be awhile before we see that again. I think though the only way they move on from Sweeney is if they miss the playoffs this year AND next year. I doubt they make massive changes in the FO no matter at the end of the year. Charlie Jacobs sounds like he wants Sweeney - and Neely - to run things. We shall see.

They had McDavid and at 17 were looking at Barzal, Connor, Chabot, Konecny etc….at 33 he could have taken WHL defenseman Brandon Carlo.

Instead he trades it for one of his friends kid - Griffin Reinhart.

We have a SIM League and I inherited Reinhart. I had never seen him play but was a huge fan of his dads. I saw him play for Bridgeport the Islanders AHL team against Providence and yikes he couldn’t skate. Then @GloryDaze4877 saw Bridgeport at Springfield near where he lives and calls me and says same thing

When the deal hampered we both couldn’t believe what a horrible deal this was and is going to be

Chiarelli drafted Hamil over Couture who was the guy they were targeting and traded I believe a third round pick in same draft to pick Tommy Cross moving up three or a few picks

Chia took Hamil while Ryan McDonagh & Max Pax on the board both going to Montreal

Chia traded picks to move up a few spots to take Cross over PK Subban who also went to Montreal

Team choked away a Cup in 2019. That ain’t on Sweeney. He also pushed all his chips into the pot for a 2023 Cup run and the team shit the bed…..again. That ain’t on Sweeney either. That’s 100% on the players, but as fans, it’s easier to blame some suit up in the press box, rather than put the accountability where it belongs.

That said, he took a bad situation and made it worse with the idiotic contracts he handed out over this past summer.

That's absolutely fair. However, it's like young Number8 being set up on a dream date with Farrah Fawcett and showing up 45 minutes late and at the wrong house. By the time it's all sorted out that f***er Lee Majors has swooped in and taken her to the prom. The rest is history.

My response? "Well hey, at least it's not as bad as my buddy Davey who once threw up on his date's shoes"

Can’t argue with that breakdown at all. 77-87 was pretty sweet but again no Cups, but lots of hard work and pride in the teams. Remember it used to be said that something happens to a guy when he puts on the spoked B.

It feels like now we are the end of ‘Pat Burns/Robbie Ftorek eras….with a slice of Steve Kasper at the helm’.

I actually disagree with this part. I think the 2 are comparable and I definitely think this roster is fixable provided that you have the courage to make some moves that wont be popular with the fan base (like moving #63 at the deadline), and bring in a head coach with a fresh perspective. They’ve got enough foundational pieces to turn it around.

Its time to close the book on the last 10-15yrs and chart a new and different path.

Three 20 goal scorers (Ericksson, Marchand Soderberg)

22nd out of 30 in goals scored, 8th in goals against.
