Teams that will rise, teams that will fall and teams that will self destruct this playoffs

Dallas has a blue line of Ceci, Lyubushkin and Dumba and Heiskanen is injured, and every team since basically Feb 1st has made us look like a lotto team, so pretty safe to assume we'll fall.
If you weren't playing Colorado you may have been able to squeak by. But yeah I agree.
The Avs are scary again.

Valid. I think there are differences though. The last time the Jets won a 2nd round playoff game was 2017-2018. The core of that team is gone. Also the manner in which they lose. For example, Leafs lost a hard fought injury filled series in game 7 OT last year. Jets were an easy out in 5 games B2B years.

Also for me, the main question is Hellebuyck because he has been a Vezina level goalie to make the Jets look this good but has also been the guy who has let them down the most when it counts. I think compared to the Leafs two goalies, they have shown in their careers they elevate in the post season.

No one really knows anything with this stuff. Just my opinions.
I think you're missing some of the reality of the current year.
If you think Hellebuyck is carrying the Jets this season then you're not watching them play or even looking at the fancy stats that all the kids love.
The Jets have been damn good on the ice ALL SEASON.
In recent years the Jets have peaked in Nov/Dec and then somewhat collapsed in the second half and the on ice play has had a lot of cracks.
This year not so much.
They really only had one losing streak this year and it wasn't that long.
They are more often than not outplaying their opponents and they have the best goalie in the world.

Scheif, Connor, Ehlers, Lowry, Appleton, Tanev, Morrissey and Helle were all on the 2018 team so there's still a strong connection to that team in terms of the top players.

They have to prove it this year for sure but I look at the vast majority of the BIG games this season.
Look at how they've handled Dallas (twice), Washington, Vegas (in Vegas), St Louis (12 game winning streak).
Like any team they can lose a game that you think they should win, but when the pressure has been on the team has looked excellent.

We just have to hope they can play their best when it counts.

The leafs will rise like we always do, everyone else will self destruct and bow down worshiping us as the Gods we are.

Hit was so clean there was a suspension issued for it.
As a former employee of Molson's, who were riding the Covid wave high with their Stanley Cup batch, I'm sure Parros had an equally sound judgement as Colie Campbell did the year Pacioretty was injured by his son's team.

C'est la vie.

On topic. If Montreal knocks off Washington, maybe they can get through the curse of Carolina. Maybe PLD, Jacob Chychrun puts a dagger in them though

Toronto could beat Ottawa if Leafs fans storm the CTC for the playoffs.

I don't like the Oilers goaltending, but I don't discount their talent. Injuries, age and goaltending may play against them this year. Mark Carney might have cursed them too.

Jets have the hardest division to get out of. And if Toronto and Montreal both get in Rogers is going to severely screw with their playoff start times I predict, which does have an effect on players rhythms.

I'll pick Ottawa, mostly out of superstition. The last time I picked the Jets to win the Stanley Cup was 40 years ago, and Jamie Macoun ended Dale Hawerchuk's playoffs in round 1. I'm not sure any Canadian team makes the Final Four this year. I'd be tempted to pick Colorado-St. Louis, Tanpa-Carolina if St. Louis gets into the Pacific playoff bracket.

My biggest question marks are Washington and Tampa. Both teams were on a mission this year: one to get Ovie that record, and the other to show the league they could find success without Stamkos. Both of those missions have been accomplished. I wonder how they will manage to keep the momentum going now that their mandate has been fulfilled. It's kinda hard to get back on track mentally and build up the emotion again for the post season.

Um.. What? They replaced Stamkos with Guentzel and succeeded. I think the Bolts have had other things on their mind than playing without Stamkos.

Rise: Colorado, Vegas, St. Louis, Tampa, Florida, Ottawa

Fall: Carolina, New Jersey, Dallas

Self-Destruct: Winnipeg, Edmonton, Toronto,

N/A: Montreal, Minnesota, LA, Washington
Looking at the bracket today, it's pretty much how I figure it'll look at the start of the playoffs.

Carolina and NJ have to play each other in round 1 (can't really both be fallers) and then the winner of Montreal and Washington. (Whichever if that pair loses in round 1 is going to be deemed a "choke" by their local, and probably national, hockey media)

Likewise one of TBL and FLA are making a 1st round exit (so, can't both be risers) and so is one of Vegas and St.L. (same.)

Montreal flops IMO.

They don't play playoff style hockey, and have been riding unsustainable advanced metrics, goaltending and a really hot first line.

Oilers are in trouble. Too many injuries going into the playoffs. Teams are beat up but the oilers have players not playing

Bolts literally won a Stanley Cup without Stamkos lol
