Okay, I'll admit the puck was a little farther than I remembered.

I still think that in today's hockey there is too many interference calls in fifty fifty situations. It is a bit similar situation when an attacking player dumbs the puck to the corner and defender hits him. I absolutely hate those interference penalties.
But that's not the same thing, at all. In that case, the player hit was the last to possess it. In this case, Walker never had it.

I any event, the old play where the dman takes the guy out who dumped the puck in is now interference. it has been like that for 5 years or so. It makes for a faster game, more exciting game rather than one where obstruction(hooking, holding, interference) features heavily.

By your logic, random hits on players without the puck should be allowed.

That is not true tho because I talked about only 50/50 situations where both are going to the puck.

It has been like that for a while but it is a shitty rule. It is like, okay dumb the puck to the corner and go take it.

In overall there are way too many soft penalties these days. I don't say you should be able use your stick the way they did in the 80s but this zero tolerance these days is a very frustrating also. Even in the NHL game is not that physical and it is no wonder with current rules. I still like hockey but I have never been biggest fan of this softer version of it. Anyways, that play came and went and I am not going to waste more time to this.

Hungary came out strong and the US was sloppy but they reeled it in after the first 10+ minutes and it was smooth sailing in the final 40. If they played 100 times, the US would win 90+ times. The intensity wasn't there like it was against Finland as you come to expect in these types of games, but the hustle and hard work were.

On the positive side, you have to love that the top line has chemistry so far and is filling up the scoresheet. Grimaldi, Tuch, and Bonino have all been excellent so far. Grimaldi looks like NTDP Rocco, which is fun to relive. Garland looked great again too, and Eyssimont looked a lot better now that he's been able to settle in with the team. Really liked Attard's game today and Samberg was a rock. And honestly, Mazur has been one of the best players through 2 games. He's been all over the ice, playing physically, winning board battles, causing chaos on the forecheck, and generating chances. A shame one of the 2 posts he hit today didn't shake out differently.

Perbix needs to be better. He is one of our top d-men here and he's been uncharacteristically shaky with careless turnovers and lackadaisical coverage on some breakdowns in the first 2 games. We need him to settle into his game as he'll be needed to play critical minutes in the most important games.

Tynan is a playmaker through and through but he'd do well to mix in some shots - even if his shot is not strong - to just give the opposition a different look. He's been a bit too predictable.

In a game that was mostly 5-on-5, I would have probably preferred a few more penalties (both ways) just so the team had more in-game time to work on special teams.

Onward!

Great add. Definitely wasn't expecting a guy who was long available to be a late addition. Would have been nice to get a guy like Marino or Hughes but Kleven fits in really well with the team's identity. He's big, a very good skater, and should provide another steady presence on the backend that was needed.

We have such a left-handed dominated defense again that I was really hoping for a guy like Marino. Good addition though.

Curious to see who sits or do we play with eight defenders.

Thoughts on the game.

Our uniforms are putrid, what the hell jerseys are those?? Blah...

Overall expected a game like this. Slow start then a last period of simply skating around. Tomorrow will be the challenge for this team. Back to back games going from weak to strong. Germany is going to be hard to play against.

Lane Hutson is just so damn good. He reminds me a lot of an even smaller Rafalski. Smart and his outlet passes are insane. Him and Samberg are the top 2 we have on defense right now.

Loved to see the group of kids stepping up. Not just about getting points but actually creating pressure and making defenses have to work hard. This can't be a one line team plus Garland, these kids need to step up and so far have. Gauthier looks great out there. His combo of size, speed & shot are top level talent. Philly should be salivating for him to arrive. Already mentioned Hutson. Coronato looks like an NHLer too already, his skating and vision have been top notch. He has impressed me so much out there after 2 games.

Mazur and Farrell look Iike they belong and add speed and energy. Thrun I want to see more of...he can be a real wild card for our defense.

Tynan has been my biggest disappointment so far. I think he is trying to do too much out there. He has to have the most arrant passes and giveaways so far. He needs to reign it in and get pucks to the net. He is a talented dude but you can see why he barely has cracked a NHL team vs Grimaldi who has been there for years on similar size and skill sets. Perbix not far behind either. He needs to get better and fast.

Bonino, Tuch & Garland need no talk they have all been great. Grimaldi, stick with Daphne my friend lol...he has been very impressive..

Wish Luke Hughes was coming but Kleven is a great add. He will provide the physicality and crease clearing presence we will need on the pk and against bigger/tougher teams. Glad he is coming to help the boys!

Petersen did what he had to do, will get a few more games in as we go.

Lastly our powerplay is a concern. Very little chances generated in 2 games. Not trying to pile on Tynan but I blame him for a lot of it..I would remove him from the pp until he stops the bad passes and gets puck to the net.

Bring on Germany next can't wait to cheer these boys on with a hopeful Kleven there
..though might be tough for him to play depending on when he arrives.

Trying to not be "that guy".

But can you really extrapolate all that from a game against a team like Hungary?

Perunovich having a rough first 25 minutes. He had multiple bad pinches as well in the first he needs to clean his game up need everyone firing on all cylinders here.
