very concerned about this teams lack of it, we picked no one up afer clowe signed with the devs... how do we compete with teams like the bruins in the east without it?

this has been the most somber off season in a long time... lol, maybe it turns out o be a good thing

Team toughness is a genuine concern with this lot, but I don't think Asham's time with this team is over.

In addition, I think McIlrath will surprise a lot of people at camp and fight for a spot on the third pairing. He will probably be cut, but I think he'll get time with the big team this season even despite all of the #7 options we have on board.

Sather expects Dorsett to take more of the Prust role now that he's adjusted to New York. With Dorsett-Moore-Boyle is a pretty good, strong energy line. The only skill player with grit is Callahan but I think Hagelin and Kreider are decent forecheckers, enough to make up for guys like Richards, Stepan, Brassard, Zuccarello who bring little to nothing in the physical department.

Hopefully Ulfie gets our D-men to actually play with balls. You mess with Hank or any of our skill guys, expect something in return. And it doesn't have to be a fight. Throwing a big hit on their star forward will send a message.

Not much of that coming from our D

Staal
Girardi
MacD
MDZ
Stralman

The most you will get out of that group is a shove and dirty look.We need Dylan in the worst way

Some of us are happy that Sather didn't go out and sign yet another tough guy that would've wound up being a disaster.

Toughness is a team concept. It is developed. Theres no silver bullet.

As for missing Clowe, I thought the acquisition was stupid and Im glad the Rangers didnt compound the mistake by retaining him and his head injuries.

And before I'm called DINO or goon lover I love our D but just wish I had more snarl and McIlrath goes a long way to fixing that. When things get nasty around Hank after the whistle this group is only good for a shove or dirty look.Hank has been on his own for years and that sucks

I don't think Clowe was the answer, but it's hard to deny that this team doesn't have many tough nosed players in the system or on the roster compared to many of the Eastern conference teams.

Rangers have Haley Kantor Yogan in the minors if needed. Its a problem but rather have someone that can play 10 mins a night over a 4 min Colton Orr player

Even with clowe last season he was the only one and it wasn't enough. Dorsett should help that department. But this team has always allowed other teams to push them around. It's not about having a Orr type guy. But having a team that stands up for one another. Drop the gloves and toggle with a guy if your not a fighter. Girardi blocks shots face first but refuses to clear the crease makes no sense to me. And I like the guy lol

Nash was pushed around all playoffs, especially against Boston. He looked hesatent on most plays in the corners

Eh, they could be tougher by a lot, but it's not as bleak as you say.

McDonagh had some notable moments this year where he wrecked people for being in front of the net.

Staal has thrown his weight around against stars, most notably OV, tons of times.

Girardi is a tough defender, but most certainly not a nasty one. His PIMs dropped from in the 50's per season to only 20 in a full 82 games in 2011-2012. Almost unheard of for a blueliner playing as many minutes as he did.

Zucc is the answer.

Did anyone else notice how Kreider turns into a bit of a nasty ***** when he's on the ice? He's casual enough to genuinely laugh it up with Jim but he has that instigating mannerism about him on the ice.

I agree with BRB, it's a team concept, we could have a 4th line of Orr-Konopka-Parros and that wouldn't make the team "tough" so to say. I want to see how they play this year with this roster, don't need to fight that much, but I want to see crease clearing and sticking up for each other. I wish Girardi would add some nastiness to his game, Del Zotto looks meaner than him at times (which I don't mind honestly).

That we do; the group we have right now is "cream puff city."

Haley Kantor Yogan?? Lucic can beat the crap out of all three guys at the same time!

And, your point is? That it gets you angry?

Lundqvist has, consistently, been one of the most durable goaltenders in the league.

Then a good idea would be to get better, not tougher.

Good idea but unless we put the "Teflon GM" out to pasture and then get the "Bowmans" to run the team, we'll remain miles behind the Hawks.
