Provorov and Sergachev are potential #1D caliber defensemen which Russia has been lacking of many years. I dont think that after Gonchar or Zubov there have been any true elite Dman for Russia. Markov maybe, fringe true elite.

Orlov and Zaitsev are very good #3D or potentially even #2D.

That is pretty good top-4. Potentially.

Respectable absolutely. Competitive with USA, Canada and Sweden? No shot, although that Forward group has some monsters within it.

d has been their problem lately, with those guys and a F group including the likes of kucherov malkin ovechkin tarasenko panarin radulov etc they can be contenders

Canada always has 7 1Ds on their team, US and Sweden tend to have 3-4 1Ds and the rest 2D. What you posted is a couple potential 1D and a bunch of 3-4Ds. They're getting better, but the goalkeeping is top notch. Coaching remains a question mark as always.

Provy getting lots of practice carrying a team.

Ghost hurt, AMac hurt, Gudas hurt tonight.

Provy playing with Sanheim, Hagg, Manning and Alt. now that's a 5 man unit.

24 combined NHL games for Sanheim, Hagg and Alt.

The two guys who developed in Canada during the important final years before becoming pro will be Russia's best D.

Finally becoming respectable?

Nikita Zaitsev (TML) - Ivan Provorov (PHI)

Slava Voynov (KHL) - Mikhail Sergachev (TBL)

Nikita Tryamkin (KHL) - Dmitry Orlov (WSH)

Dmitry Kulikov (WPG) - Nikita Zadorov (COL)
This is much better than in past. Not Monsters like the offense Players(For me the best in the World).

that looks like it might eventually be pretty good for an NHL team. good but it wouldnt even be best in the NHL.

compared to other countries that's abysmal.

Wait until a certain few posters read this lol

Funny but true. I think it's because defense is probably the most "coachable" position. Forwards and goalies have to have god-given talents that are innate. Canada's great system at developing players is probably why we're so deep in good defensemen. Most defensemen, when they reach the NHL, take time to develop and usually hit their prime later than forwards.

You like all those posters read past the actual point and live with your own invented narratives.

There was never a discussion about development of defencemen in Russia. You want to start it? Fine. Make a thread. But it is obvious that russian development of defencemen is in ruins. No need to argue.

Btw Provorov is a US development system product. One of the best right now.

:) Feel free to post a better NHL D-squad. What world do you live in?

On international level it is certainly not the best, but it doesn't have to be with the goaltending and forwards.

Yes, probably becoming respectable. At the very least Provorov and Sergachev look great for their ages. A long way to go from the defence units groups of top teams though.

Seth Jones - zack werenski (both better than every dman listed)
Jack Johnson - Ryan Murray
David savard - whoever

subban - Josi
Ellis - ekholm
Irwin - weber

the obvious answers

Looks quite good. If they can get their defense to improve to match their forward group Russia can get back some of its former glory.
