Finland is pretty clear gold medal favourite, i don't remember time when it's been like this. It's also home soil and everything aside from gold is a huge disappointment.

Defense isn't that big of a deal, Finland defend as a unit. Lehtonen is more than enough for PP d-man and then we also have some grit to battle in front of the net in the d-zone. It all comes down to pressure and how this team handles it.

Last year's Olympics felt a bit similar. I had us as the #1 favorite over Russia slightly, aka ROC if being politically correct, but no NHL players were there so this upcoming tournament is indeed some kind of a first.

They will let Russia participate next year cause they think Finland winning all the time will be boring.
But Russia nowadays isnt better than Slovakia at hockey theyr lewel has dropped for sure. In few years Rus will be same calibre as Latvia or Norway ofc they will propably never again play at IIHF worlds but realism is Russia would'nt make top 8 in Skoda isolation has decreased theyr hockey program so much;)

Winland has won almost every important game between these during the last circa
15 years except for that fasel-putler effort to give "motherrussia" that scandalous win IIHF WHC 2014

Why we should worry Russia's possible comeback to IIHF worlds right now?
War in Ukraine is not even close to end anytime soon and before IIHF even
considers Russia's return to IIHF worlds the war needs to over first
and that can take years.

I can't care less when Russia is back in IIHF worlds.
And everyone who's watched news knows that the war in Ukraine is not even close to end yet.

All of these guys? Man that's way too many guys. Some of these guys are way way further than 2-3 years away, and still too young to tell if they will ever reach NT- level. And then you have Kotka who clearly would make the team now if available. Like wtf is this list? Am i misunderstanding it somehow?

If Rene Fasel was still in charge he would've already let Russia back. He's Putin's little baby.

Starter:
45 Olkinuora Jussi

Back up:
32 Larmi Emil

1:
42 Kapanen Kasperi – 65 Manninen Sakari – 70 Hartikainen Teemu
38 Riikola Juuso − 52 Seppälä Mikael

2:
82 Pesonen Harri – 74 Suomela Antti – 19 Merelä Waltteri
3 Määttä Olli (A) – 31 Kemiläinen Waltteri

3:
25 Rajala Toni – 13 Ruohomaa Mikael – 10 Armia Joel
40 Lindbohm Petteri− 23 Matinpalo Nikolas

4:
76 Sallinen Jere – 24 Björninen Hannes (A) – 12 Anttila Marko (C)
6 Friman Niklas − 50 Koivisto Miika

------------------

Some interesting stuff there. Kapanen with Manninen and Hartikainen sounds very interesting. I love it.

Suomela & Pesonen stays as a pair from the last game, but Suomela & Kapanen are split. I believe that they played 3 games together before this.

Ruohomaa might be Jalonen's pick for the tournament. I'm not a huge fan of that idea.

Could the things mentioned above mean that he will cut MaG from the WHC team. He had the chance to plant MaG with his UFA mates. Maybe it's full UFA line in tomorrow's game vs Sweden.

Sallinen in the wing probably means that Sallinen won't be a center in the WHC tournament and if he's battling for a winger spot, it means that he's not a guaranteed pick for the final WHC team either. However that would be a good 4th line in the WHC tournament, but is it him or Lammikko or even Oksanen? We probably don't have room for all of them. Jalonen does love some wingers who can be back up centers so one of Sallinen or Lammikko will be picked, maybe both.

Just in case I remind you: Panarin(29+65), Kucherov (31+88), Svechnikov(23+32), Malkin (27+56), Kaprizov(41+35), Kuzmenko (39+35), Ovechkin(42+33), Buchnevich(26+41), Tarasenko (21+33) Kuznetsov(12+43), Nichushkin (18+30), Barbashev (19+41) Marchenko (21+4). Now list me the players of the Slovak national team with the same statistics🤣

Morning special with a bit more risk and twist involved (unlikely for the first line but who knows):

Kakko-Laine-Rantanen
Kapanen-Manninen-Hartikainen
Pesonen-Ruohomaa-Armia
Lammikko-Björninen-Anttila
Granlund, Sallinen

It's not bad but I don't want Ruohomaa personally. Olli Jokinen did suggest that Kakko-Laine-Rantanen line today, but I dunno how serious he was. He was talking about final selections with Sihvonen today @mtv3 if you and some others wanna check that out.

I don't think it necessarily means MaG will be cut. He's not been that great tho, servicable but not great, so he could get cut. But i imagine UFA line get's a look at Sweden game, unless that 1st line looks totally amazing today.

Kinda suprised Heljanko doesn't even get a game. I know it's highly unlikely you get forced to go with 3rd goalie in the tournament, but might want to give him a prep just incase. But i'm propably just overthinking that and Jukka saw enough from him in Liiga playoffs for such a small probability.

Who would you cut? Jalonen has to make some tough cuts and MaG might be one of them. MaG was good some games ago but what do you do when Pesonen is just better and we don't have that many of those top-9 winger slots.

I'm not that surprised about Heljanko. He would be just a 3rd goalie and that's like a back up of a back up. Very small chance that he will play in the WHC tournament. We need warm up our real goalies, so I like that Heljanko doesn't play.

I think it very well might be MaG, but i'd like to see him once with Manninen and Hartikainen before cutting him.

I prefer Ruohomaa over Suomela, Sallinen and Oksanen. But MaGa is higher on my list. He does so many small things that it adds up to something big.

Kemiläinen is a big no for me

Struggles to produce and the international games physicality and speed is too much for Kemiläinen.

Suomela & Kemiläinen should not be at the worlds.
