Is the liiga champion from a big city?

Rauma is very small town, it has only about 40k inhabitants. They have a concern behind them that allows them to compete financially with other teams from bigger market areas.

For another matter, Finland appears to have very experienced team. 15 players are 30 years or older.

well Harri Pesonen plays with SCL Tigers and Langnau has 9.2k inhabitants and I do think that he could be an useful part in Suomi Team lol

As no NHL player can participate at this tournament and it's like that only a D or even E level tournament, I'm not too much interested this year in this tournament. It's again a good chance for Germany to glance, because the top teams like Canada, Sweden, USA, Russia and so on can only play with their players from their national league and players from others european leagues.
But nevertheless I would like to know the squad of Finland. Because I'm too lazy to look the whole thread for the official finnish squad at the Olympics, can anyone tell me who will play at the Olympics for Finland?

sorry for ot but how come finland is not good at handball? you guys are good in basketball, hockey, bandy, floorball and decent at soccer. so its suprising for me. not even the biggest swedish hater among finns can deny that sweden is much better than finland at handball.

I fail to see the relation to this thread, but it's difficult to be good at a sport that the population isn't at all invested in. Similarly, Iceland is bad at hockey.

Too boring, finns don't have the attention span. It is the opposite of football where no goals are scored. Every other shot is a goal. Hockey is just right.

Too much LGBTetc -type of contact in handball ?

Btw - why is no form of baseball played/popular in Sweden*?
Globally baseball is one of the leading sports...

(* could be because the players rarely touch each other ;) )

In Finland, handball has somehow been earmarked as a game for the Fennoswedes and is largely popular only in areas with notable Swedish-speaking minorities - with the exception of the shores of the Bothnian Gulf. (And by this I mean it's not particularly popular there despite having a sizable Swedish-speaking population.) What sort of hammers this home is the following fun fact: the northernmost town in Finland that has a club in the Finnish Handball League is... Riihimäki.

Just as handball is more popular in southern Sweden, handball is almost solely practiced in the Helsinki region and to some extent in the Turku archipelago. The team in Riihimäki is also the only professional team and completely relies on import players and an owner keeping the team alive, so it's not really representing the Finnish handball demographics. As FiLe said, it's basically the national sport of the Finnish-Swedish speaking people, so the exposure isn't that big.

Many tried to say it better words and kindly, but the truth is handball is gay

I wish the opposite around. Finland is a way too small of a nation (5,6 million or so, no more and no less) to host/support sports like bandy and pesäpallo (Finnish baseball). Actually I can think thank that Finland can give you a real go and swing at baseball - so don't ya yanks (USA) think that you are the only nation on the planet to swing a baseball bat.

But I prefer Finland youth to play Ishockey and football.

Kiiteen Pallo ... a small, a really small place in Finland but that place have som bat-swingers and world wide songwriters like Nightwish!

That nobody in the rest of the world cares of.

Bat-swingers that is.

So, don't waste the young on the youth Finland:thumbu: - let 'em play hockey and ishockey and hardrock instead.
