Assuming no Puljujärvi or Kuokkanen:

Tolvanen - Heponiemi - Turkulainen
Vesalainen - Ikonen - Koivula
Kotkaniemi - A. Räsänen - Kupari
Nyman - Somppi - Moilanen
Oksanen

Heiskanen - Vaakanainen
Juolevi - Salo
Välimäki - Jokiharju
E. Räsänen

Well, he hasn't done anything special in AHL. It would have made sense if he came.
No it wouldn't have, we've seen he can dominate against his peers. He needs to learn how to translate that against professionals. Last year it would have made sense a little more, not at all now. But the fact that Oilers didn't release him then solidified that his international junior career was indeed over.

And for all the people who claim that it would have "boosted" his confidence: imagine you being him and your clear goal being an NHLer this season and then Chiarelli says: "you can attend the WJC, it's not like we need you here anyway right now"... yeah.

But if he's not gonna play in NHL, why not just let him play for his national junior team one last time...

Puljujärvi not being able to attend is no sensation at this point. While he would have been a squee-worthy addition, I don't think anyone was counting anything on him being available.

The real "will they or won't they" -debate concerning a player bubbling between the NHL and the AHL will be had with Kuokkanen. Him not being released would be a genuine bummer.

These are my current thoughts:

Vesalainen - A. Räsänen - Tolvanen
Koivula - Koppanen - Heponiemi
Kotkaniemi - Kuokkanen - Turkulainen
Talvitie - Kupari - Nurmi
Tuulola

Vaakanainen - Heiskanen
Välimäki - Juolevi
Salo - Jokiharju
E .Räsänen

Luukkonen

The first line has a history together and that is the sole reason why A. Räsänen is on the first line.

The second line is the Ilves line. Koppanen has the same role as A. Räsänen on the first.

The third line is an offensive line that is interchangeable with the second line.

Fourth line has two PK specialists and Kupari providing some offense.

Most notable omissions:
Oksanen, Moilanen, Ikonen, Jääskä

I think Somppi will surprise many here. Plays massive minutes in Halifax, in the PK and PP, can contribute offensively. No way he isn't in the team as a #3C or #4C at least.

I was about to say this: why is everyone ignoring him? Our center depth is relatively weak already and we'll left out an over PPG center from the Q who can do it all... not going to happen.

As previously mentioned, I was pretty sure that Kuokkanen would be released for the upcoming WJC. Looking good! Of course the Canes can still prevent from going. But I'd say we will more than likely be watching him play in Buffalo.

Kiekkoareena: Nuoret Leijonat saamassa joukkueeseensa NHL:ään murtautuneen Kuokkasen
This helps the Finns a lot. If Heponiemi cant do it like some say, Kuokkanen is the only center I think is good enough to match up with the top line centers of the big countries. Räsänen, Koppanen, Somppi are all decent but they're a level below what others have to offer
