In a sense it is. They intend to start by accrediting 12+7. One forward and one d-man will hang around as a taxi squad. Then they will decide at a later date whether they need one more forward or an additional d-man. Injuries and illnesses happen, after all.

Salo is sick with a stomach bug. But if he gets healthy enough to play, then it looks like E.Räsänen and Tuulola will be the extras.
Fair enough. Thanks. Hope Salo gets better too, gotta feel for the kid. He should've made the team last year

Why Jaaska over Tuulola? I feel like one is obviously better than the other.

*Shrug* All I can say is the coach disagrees. Most likely he considers Jääskä a better player for the role meant for him.

Salo still has the runs. Once he gets healthy, he should be added too. Doesn't necessarily have to happen today, they can simply wait and go vs. Canada with just six d-men.

That decision ( accrediting Salo) gives a signal Eemeli Räsänen or Eetu Tuulola will be last cut.
That was known a while already.

Currently both Tuulola and Räsänen are still part of the team. And it could be neither will be accredited if there're no injuries.

If that was already known Salo gets accredited why Finland didn cut Tuulola or E Räsänen after the training camp then?

That's been explained multiple times in the last couple of pages of this very thread.

One forward and one defenceman will not play in the preliminary round(?). They choose if they need a defenseman or a forward, the other won't play at all. So they picked one extra player.

In other words, they start with 12+7 and figure out at a later date whether they have more need for a forward or a d-man.

It's a novel approach, but makes quite a bit of sense. Unexpected things may happen. A good example was in 2016 when they lost Sopanen early on and then there was the stomach bug thanks to which they could dress only four d-men for one of the games.

And for good measure... Ahokas himself saying it.

Anyone know how Urho Vaakanainen has looked in the pre tournament games?
Thank you

There are positives and negatives so far from this game. Koivula looks really good, what a positive surprise. Offensively good showing. On the opposite side: too many turnovers and mistakes, defensive structure non-existent at times and Luukkonen... the first goal maybe shouldn't have count, but why he didn't get out from his net? There was so much time, read the play horrendously bad. 4th goal was 100% on him. Also something needs to be done for the 3rd line, it's absymal. Good thing it's the first game.

Despite scoring a fluky goal Jokiharju has been abysmal. Poor game from all defensemen. Forwards have been okay, especially Koivula and Vesalainen.

This game was uptrending at least. 3rd period looked quite good, we had chances but didn't capitalize. I think the first goal had a pretty big effect on players, that was total bullshit.

No one had a great game, especially disappointed by players with NA experience.
Vesalainen probably was our best player, some of the other top names got better as the game went but really can't say played anywhere close to their talents.

My faith in our game in NHL rink keeps being low.

Horrible defending and bad finishing. Canada really didn't make any of those goals on their own, all came from terrible mistakes from the defenseman. Two goals from clearing attempts directly to the forwards stick. Bad defending by Kotkansalo in two of the goals(1st and 4th), much rather have Salo playing.

Also get Kuokkanen off the first PP unit, Ikonen can at least shoot the puck from the left side, Kuokkanen couldn't even get one pass to Tolvanen there.
