A bit of news dropped today in regards to the players expected to round out the Danish roster.

Veteran defencemen Oliver Lauridsen, Nicholas B. Jensen and Matias Lassen have been ruled out due to injuries. Forward Nicklas Jensen is also out with an injury.

From NA goalie Mads Søgaard is expected to join. The remaining options are still playing in the NHL/AHL playoffs.

Markus Lauridsen (D) will be added next week, while forwards Joachim Blichfeld and Mikkel Aagaard will join when the SM's- and SHL's finals have concluded.

The Danish roster for the final two pre IHWC games (Slovakia) has been named.

Injuries aside, goaltending and defence pretty much look set. As mentioned above forwards Joachim Blichfeld (Tappara) & Mikkel Aagaard (Skellefteå ) will join sometime next week.

Where is Oliver Lauridsen?

Good top 6 in Olesen, Blichfield, From, Russell, True, Aagaard. But weak bottom 6.

Oliver Lauridsen is injured. Just like Nicholas B. Jensen. But they are both 37 so it could be a good idea to start moving on from them and go on to find new players looking towards the next Olympics.

Unfortunately we are pretty low on high end talent on the D right now, but usually we see guys developing into something good. Kasper Larsen is the only obvious guy under 25 right now, but hopefully we will see some of the players in the 04, 05, 06, 07, 08 slowly develop into good NT players.

The next players should probably be Marius Kring and Victor Schmidt and later on maybe Emil Saaby Jakobsen, but you never know with guys like Anton Als, Anton Stenbakken, Jesper Bank Olesen, Markus Jakobsen. There's always a portion of luck involved. Who winds up the exact right place at the right time with the right coach? You never know. Someone is going to jump the line as well. Phillip Bruggisser for instance: In the younger years he was never seen as a possibility to have such a fine career in DEL and on the NT.

Malte Setkov also should have a chance of developing into a good force the coming years, but since he was born in 99 he can't be regarding as young anymore.

Based on what I saw at the Olympics, it makes no sense that Setkov is not playing in a better league.

Nicholas B. Jensen is another good example of this, a forward moved to defence during his time in the NCAA-III. Spent three years in the Danish Elite League afterwards and then moved to the DEL. Arguably one of better defensive defenseman to have played for Denmark.

Simon Grøndvaldt was the lone 1991-born defenceman on the Danish WJC-20 team back in 2008 , no Jesper Jensen Aabo, Markus Lauridsen or Phillip Bruggiser. All three were also excluded from the team the following year.

And you got similiar storylines when it comes to Danish forward and not to mention Frederik Andersen, who had to sign with another team (Frederikshavn ) in the Danish Elite Leauge at that time, to get a starting job.

For whoever that takes over for Gath , getting Oliver Larsen back in the fold will at least help the defence short term. But obviusly not the ideal situation that it’s perhaps anyones guess who’s the replacements for + 35 year old players.

Based on what I saw at the Olympics, it makes no sense that Setkov is not playing in a better league.

He will be playing with JYP (Liiga) next season.

I don’t recall Larsen discussing it in public or it being mentioned during say broadcasts (the olympcs or last year’s IHWC). Could obviously have missed it and perhaps not something the involved parties have interest in voicing . We also don’t have much of a “hockey press”, so a lot things (including why certain players are missing) doesn't get covered that much. And with all the injuries on defence this year, Larsen would have been a good addition.

Bau was part of last year’s team and a reserve for the olympics, but guess things can change quickly

was Nicolai Meyer invited even? Had a great season in ICEHL
I have a feeling he and the Danish Union are simply not even communicating anymore. He just seems to be persona non grata or else he has told them off by now.

We also have that player type covered with Blichfeld, From, Aagaard and others so I'm not sure it would really make much of a difference. I would rather have us develop a few players with a bit of a physical edge to their game.

We have lost Nicholas B. Jensen and Oliver Lauridsen maybe for good and Morten Poulsen and Frederik Storm are a couple of other pests at the end of the career. Mathias Bau is also not here and I have no clue if he will return. Those types of role players are not produced often in Denmark so we might get a new sort of problem in the near future.

We still have True, Russell and a few younger players with that "annoyance edge" such as Schultz (if we can call him young), but it's a lot of players of that sort that has left.

Pretty disappointed with From. He was scoring machine all year long and right before the tournament, but now he's just out there doing almost nothing

Part of it is probaly due to the increased level of competition (Sweden, Canada etc.). The coming games should be a bit more suited for somelike like From.

So...

Do you beat us / Canada this year, too?

If the now four previous games between the two nations are anything to go by, we'll win the next one :D.

Didn't result in any points, but still a good showing by Denmark for the first 40 minutes in today's game.
