The 24 year old was really good at the World Championships
Weird to use contract spots on just depth guys (if that is just the intention) like him and Tralmaks. Instead of someone more intended to come up at some point.Guessing this is just depth for GR, but I like it nonetheless

I agree that it doesn't make sense to sign to one year deal.99% sure Rochette was promised at least a fair chance to win a roster spot.
Eliotte Friedman on 32 thoughts said that there were several teams trying to sign Rochette. However, just yesterday, Rochette said that he's aware of the offers but planning on staying in Switzerland for another year. Since that's a rather remarkable turn of events I'm very sure some promises were made by the Redwings to make him change his mind.
It's also a one year deal. Doesn't really make sense to sign somebody just to play AHL for one year.

Tralmaks also got promised a fair chance and never got any chances even in bottom six struggled drastically down the line.
lol well if this guy is actually coming to the nhl that means we’re probably getting futures for Larkin or a compher/copp is nextRochette might not even stay to play AHL. Pretty good chance he'd return to Switzerland instantly if sent down. Wouldn't suprise me one bit. He's not interested in playing AHL. Which is why, until yesterday, he was planning on rejecting all ELC offers. I'd expect him to make the Redwings out of camp.

Feels like next season will be a lost season
If we get futures for Larkin and we go next season with this brochette kasper copp compher finnie as possibilities for centers Yzerman can try all he wants but it’s a lost season. Which I’m not totally against so long as we luck out with a top pick and turn copp Faulk etc to 1sts and use as ammunition when someone else becomes available.I'm pretty sure he's signed with the intention to play NHL. However, the question is if he's actually good enough to stay and play in the NHL. Nobody ever doubted his talent...he has the skill to score a lot of points in the NHL.
He's a former top prospect, has featured on several Hockey Canada junior selections, even including a Hlinka Gretzky roster. He has scored almost 400 points in the QMJHL, including a 106 points regular season, averaged north of ppg both during regular season and playoffs over his QMJHL career. He has won the Q with the Remparts as their top Center and is a Memorial Cup allstar.
The problem is that he's full of himself, small and soft. That's why he never got drafted. He has put the work in over the last few years...which is why there was a lot of NHL interest this offseason. There's no guarantee it's gonna work out though. Could go both ways. Yzerman just took a punt I guess.
Re next season, I don't think Yzerman can justify throwing away a season. He's gonna want to be competitive, give or take Larkin. He's already under some time pressure and wouldn't be able to sell such a setback. So another rebuild, or even a retool, would probably require an Yzerman firing for it to happen.

More like Lombardi and Danielson competition, hopefully all of them will play some games with big clubLarkins replacement
Yzerman should go on way weiwers , call up HorcoffElite Prospects lists him as being a Grand Rapids signing. If that't the case that's another good sign Shawn Horcoff is good at his job. Yzerman needs to clean house this summer but Horcoff should remain as he's doing a great job running the Griffins.
