I was listening to ct hockey fokus podcast today and the statistics said there that statistically we are most likely to score goals, meaning we had most chances when those players were on ice: Vrana, Chytil, Jaskin.

But....does our coaching staff know about hockey analytics?:sarcasm:

Czechboy certainly has all the stats to back up his arguments!

Credit to him for being so passionate and determined to try and figure out the reasons for our lack of success :thumbu:

Thanks.. it's the oiler's fan in me as they are horribly run and do the same mistakes.

Eg. Hall was a jerk of some sort apparantly and had an attitude... so we traded him for hard working Adam Larssen. Hall went on to win MVP last year.

Eberle was 'soft'.. he had lots of points but his points were all soft and apparantly 'soft points' don't count as much as 'hard points'. So we traded him for nothing. A 3rd line player.

We haven't been in the playoffs since. But it was very similar comments... 'soft eberle', 'lazy hall'... they replaced them with harder working 'grit guys' and boy did it blow up in their faces. You know what the Oilers desperately need? Scoring wingers.lol

I think constant coach firings, benching scorers for hard workers, a goalie carousel are all symptoms of management making poor decisions.

But....does our coaching staff know about hockey analytics?:sarcasm:
I would LOVE for someone interviewing Riha and Reichel and ask about shot metrics, corsi or fenwick. Not that I think that is everything .. it needs to be a combination of both. We're currently poor at both.

Even the whole 'bench him to teach a lesson'. So we'll bench Vrana for only havign 4 goals instead of 7 like Frolik. Then we'll put him back in and he'll improve and score more goals?

That worked in the 90s with a different generation of humans. That isn't how you coach this younger generation. Vrana will be a 30 goal scorer next season locked into a big contract, if Washington gets eliminated early.. do you think he's coming over? Now, who's he buddies with? Those guys get together over beers and say I don't want to go anymore. I'm calling it now.. next year's team will have no more than 5 NHL guys and will score 20 goals instead of 39 and everyone will be complaining we lack young scorers while guys like Chytil and Vrana are on a beach.lol

Even the whole 'bench him to teach a lesson'.

Man, this is so annoying  Hakstol did this stuff for years in Philly - usually to young guys who became very good eventually anyway, like Gostisbehere or Sanheim. But that fool was benching them all the time just because "not enough veteran reliable bullshit play"

So annoying. After 289 games Hak is finally out of the building and I was so happy not to see this approach anymore - only to see it by Říha himself, arghhh

I follow your Flyer's closely.. totally elite team with an awful coach in Hakstol (or at least, he wasn't the coach the Flyer's needed).

I can't imagine you guys miss the playoffs again... Hextall set you guys up beautifully cap wise and prospects wise.

Hopefully.. Now we (Cze) need to win this tournament to make this season a bit less painful :)

ok then. I suspected Vrána was criticized by Marek Sýkora at first. So let see how Cze lines up will look like now, and then is time for next judgement.

Alright... so now we know if we win we get Canada! My big gripes are no Sulak, Francouz is hurt, benching 2 NHL players when every quarter has been by 1 goal, constant reward of ice time to Zohorna's and Gulas (none of whom I think can keep up against Big 5). Jaskin on line 2 instead of 4. The untouchable third line which seems to force Top 6 guys into pressbox. Lack of a Top 9. Also, funny observation - all the points that Kovar and Kubalik have gotten since we used the Plzen line were away from Gulas. Eg Kovar setup Voracek for a beauty while Gulas was on bench. Simon set up Kubalik for a huge goal while Gulas on bench.

I'm done bitching (for now) about lineup changes and all.

Time to grab a beer.. sit back and be stressed out of my mind till about 4pm EST.

1 hour till game time!

Keys to victory:

Bartosak can't allow more than 2 goals (which he's consistent at)
We need to score early and get Germans to open up as we're much deeper
Get crowd jumping
We can't stop Drai (no one can) but we need to contain him - I would personally 'larkin him' and assign a fast guy to drive him crazy (like Palat or Frolik). Germans can't afford to match us
First line needs to keep scoring and tilting ice or First line needs to be even against Drai and 2nd and 3rd line need to outscore German 2nd and 3rd line
Secondary scoring from anywhere (I'd guess Kubalik or Kovar)
Palat is due for his first mutli point game!
No stupid penalties from Jaskin/Moravcik/Zohorna
We have a deep team with tonnes of skill and we've kept first periods close and then opened it up in 2nd and 3rd periods.
I know Kahun is great but we have about 5 guys like him or better (including Vrana and Chytil.lol)
Since we're not using logic (or stats) to make decisions we need character guys like Gulas and such to rally the boys and get them to win with 'intangibles' that can't be measured
Powerplay needs to be good - special teams are huge in elimination games
PK needs to continue being good
Hronek needs to not go crazy.lol

German keys to victory:

Expose our centres with Drai as we have nothing near him in quality at Centre. mind you, Germans having nothing like Voracek on wing or Hronek/Gudas on D
Grubauer might be the best goalie in entire tournament - he needs to 'heat up' and steal one

I honestly think Marek Sykora needs to shut the f*** up... I like him and he did a great job as coach for us a few seasons ago but his opinion should have as much affect on NT as mine.

Love your energy! I can feel it all the way from here! :D

Sorry, I apologize your opinion touching Marek. But I very likely think he is doing great job for a not few seasons, but for his life. I believe more likely in his experience than this shouts in the dark.

Nobody is challenging Russian team when americans are out, nobody was in winning position against them and nobody will be.

Palat back in the 4th line. Chytil on the second, Vrana scratched.

Well. Not happy about Vrana, I think this is a bad move but we'll see.
Palat should be higher but if it is for sake of Chytil I can live with that

Chytil on wing is a very good idea. Also, if Faksa gets kicked out of the draw, we have a second centremen which is a luxury.

I would obviously switch Palat and Jaskin in this lineup. I do like Jaskin but he's not on the same level as Palat or Vrana. I actually most preferred him with Kovar.

I am clearly missing what both Zohorna's did to earn a spot in elimination game. I get Tomas as he is a centre on line 4 with Chytil on wing. That makes sense to me.

My other gripe would be that we had 7 games to get ready for this game and our 2nd line has never played 1 minute together. Too much tinkering... we should have Top 6 established and familiar with each other. That is the one thing I like about the Plsen line - know the big ice and know each other. That can help.

Did you miss the 'I like him and he did a great job for us' part?

I don't think our media should be calling out young players and criticizing them that heavily. I also don't think our media should have any influence on coaching line ups. That's not the media's job and, unless I missed something.. he's not a coach for us anymore. This is all part of the 'same old group of guys' running the show.

Sorry again, I did not miss the part of your talk of his last few years. I believe he has more work behind of him than just this... no offense to you at all..

well, I do not need your like again. Do not get me wrong. I just believe in our Coach staff and their experiences. I have believe to them right now. No matter if we will win or lose today...

Noticeable player Gulas had more minutes than in first period:

Simon, Jaskin, Chytil, Faksa, Palat, Repik,

Are you kidding me? Riha really believes his Gulas is the answer!

D with less minutes than Moravcik:

Musil, Gudas, Kolar, Sklenicka

These coaching decisions are killing me!
