They ain't using Kubalik on PP ? That's literally his biggest strenght lol, that one-timer he possesses is lethal.

Říha actually told the press that he did not like the lines' chemistry at today's practice and that they will use some "plan B" against Sweden, based on how the lines looked like at the pre-tournament in Brno. If this affects the PP units too I don't know. He also said they will perhaps play just 11 forwards against Sweden, as they are still not satisfied with the 4th line and want to continue their search for the optimal line-up. They are also hoping for the arrival of Radek Faksa, this should be definitely decided during today.

The situation with Francouz and Faksa is looking good. They must pass medical first, but both want to play here, which is the most important. Miloš Říha said he is sure they will arrive, only question is when. In Faksa case, they already have airplane ticket for him.

Hertl is currently leading the playoff in points (9+5 in 14), tied with Couture, Rantanen and Burns. He really take big step forward this season. Shame he can't participate, but on the other side I wish him all well in the playoff. I am also glad we have strong mark there, Hertl 1st in points, followed by Pastrňák (6+5 in 13) and Krejčí (4+6 in 13) + Mrázek playing really well. Good for Czech hockey.
Also, he got 2 points AND he was on for the final minute when they were defending a 1 goal lead. I'm not sure which makes me happier? I'm positive if they were down a goal he would've been on the ice too.

Agreed, 3 of the final 4 are very relient on Czechs. So I'm going against St. Louis.lol

Lineup at today practice (and possibly at Sweden):

Kolář - Hronek
Sklenička - Gudas
Moravčík - Rutta
Musil - Zámorský

Frolík - Simon - Voráček
Palát - Kovář - Vrána
Kubalík - Chytil - Jaškin
T. Zohorna - Hanzl - Řepík

H. Zohorna and Tomášek outside of lineup.

That left side D is terrifying... the right side is great. Funny enough, this has also be an Oiler's problem.lol If I were to rank our D... 4 of the Top 5 are all on the right side and our bottom 3 are on the left.

So it seems that Simon shall be our 1C for the tournament. Good for him and I hope he will deliver. Also, I hope that Faksa will get the right role, unlike last tournament. As said, coaches will probably enlist only 11 forwards, 7 Ds and 2 goalies as 4th line is in search of its optimal constitution. I'm really curious about the goalies as Kovář said before that he will not go to the tournament when given role of the 3rd goalie, but times may change. Francouz/Bartošák for the tournament, if it was up to me. Musil likely to be 8th D, Hanzl, Tomášek, Zohornas and/or Řepík will probably wait. Also hope that Faksa comes to play against Norway to acclimatize. I would go with:

Vrána, Simon, Voráček - Palát, Chytil, Jaškin - Frolík, Faksa, Řepík - T. Zohorna, Kovář, Kubalík - Tomášek, H. Zohorna - Sklenička, Gudas, Kolář, Hronek, Moravčík, Rutta, Zámorský, Musil - Francouz, Bartošák, Hrubec/Kovář

Hanzl probably do not gets his place (unfortunately) as both Zohornas are more versatile, as well as Tomášek.

Now, let's go for a medal, pumped as hell already!

Those are 2 big additions! This team is starting to look great. Not Gold Medal great but also not me yelling at TV because I don't like the players.

I notice (on social media mostly) that Kovar is getting no love... I feel bad for him. He's a very good player who always shows up to represent us. I have no problems with him on the team. I wish he'd done more offensively in the past but, like Cervenka, he always shows up and always works hard. Obviously if he's on PP1 and 1C I won't be too happy.

Both Moravčík and Sklenička played last year and were solid, Kolář is an experienced player who has represented many times before. I am not so pessimistic.

I agree on Kovář. He is good player and his devotion for national team is admirable. He also already show up he can be very good on national stage. I remember WHC 2015, everyone talked about Jágr (rightfully) after the 5:3 win against Finland in QF, but Kovář also score 2 goals in that game and was big part of our success in that game. He finished with 9 points in 10 games that year. If he get good and compatible players on his line (like Mozyakin and Zaripov in Metallurg), his performance will improve big time.

Shame Kempný is injured. He would be big addition to our team. Same with Hájek. But like was said above, Moravčík and Sklenička played good last year and have more experience this year and Kolář is playing good for us many years. I trust they will not disappoint us.

In last years there was rule by IIHF about adding 2 players to the roster before preliminary phase. BOS - CAR starts today. If Carolina will continue in godlike mode and BOS will be eliminated, Krejci and Pastrnak can join team later.

I remember from czech hockey history how much it helped to our team.

The players can be added anytime during the tournament up to the number 22 skaters + 3 goalies. But I don't see any point in waiting for two albeit excellent forwards who could maybe, maybe, maybe join just before the QF game.

No, it was 2 more new players. So you finished tournament with 2 more players. 2 more new spots on the roster. If you won't use it doesn't matter. So you can't waste it because of waiting on someone new.

You are right. Now it's:

Each team's roster consisted of at least 15 skaters (forwards and defencemen) and two goaltenders, and at most 22 skaters and three goaltenders. All 16 participating nations, through the confirmation of their respective national associations, had to submit a roster by the first IIHF directorate meeting.

Probably it was canceled.

But I was right too. Check this https://www.denik.cz/hokej/ruzicka-dospal-na-soupisku-ruzicku20100510.html for example. Like I said  "... Český tým už má pro základní skupinu volné místo jen na postu třetího brankáře pro Jakuba Štěpánka, před další fází může ještě dopsat dva hráče do pole..."

They can still ad new players after the initial roster is submitted, but only to the number 22+3. This is the hard limit. You play 7 games in the group stage, you need at least 7 defensemen and 13 forwards, that is a minimum. OK, you can leave 2 spots open, but I doubt that the arrival of 2 tired stars a day or two before the QF games would help. With the players who arrive for the 2nd or 3rd group game it is different, this is OK.

This our team is better (much better) than our team in 2010 (last time we won gold). If our boys will play 110% we can be successful.

Od course we had Jagr. But check other forwards from 2010:
That's brutal :cool::laugh:
Voracek was young rookie in 2010.

Goalies were better in 2010. Defense is better this year.

You Czechs have a good team, what are you guys thoughts on the coaching staff?

Easy now.. that team had one of my favourite Czech D of all times.. Karel Rachunek! Experience NHLer back in Europe and playing awesome. I was positive he'd end up back in the NHL eventually. He was one guy that I was happy to take over an NHL D. Jagr, at the time, was thought to be done.. he came back to NHL after that and was awesome! Plus Michal Roszival!lol

To me, that gold was mostly about Vokoun being unbelievable. Even funnier when you realize that the German goalie got awarded MVP.

Also, this win and Nagano are a huge detriment to Czech hockey. We sent our 'C teams' and won Gold. Anytime we send an A team and lose (eg. 96 World Cup) people are always like 'we won in 2010 and 98 with Extraliga guys'. So we keep doing that. The main factor in both those was NHL goalies that were outstanding.

The funny thing is the 2011 team was much stronger and only lost 1 game and got a bronze medal. I think the 2010 gold medal team had a .500 record. Of course, in 2011 we were benching NHL goalies and starting KHL/Extraliga ones. A now 8 year old trend that keeps happening... including last year where we gave NHL goalie Rittich all the hard starts and KHL goalie Francouz all the easy starts. Of course we started the KHL goalie over the NHL goalie and lost. A year later Rittich plays about 40 games in the NHL and Francouz gets 2. It was a bad decision and classic Czech thinking of the last decade.

Also, that game winner was infuriating. You have all NHL STAR Patrick Kane deking out the Dman that ended up in the ECHL and scoring on a goalie who'd end up in the AHL. Meanwhile, Pastrnak and Krejci had Dylan Larkin up their asses the entire game and couldn't breath. I liked Jandac but not line matching Kane as beyond ridiculous. Hopefully they learn from that this year as we have Faksa (I think), Palat and Frolik and all of them are capable of being a nightmare for the oppositions scoring chances. They simply don't quit.

Sorry for the rant! Too much coffee.

he's a good to play in PP for Czech in past WC and in Eurotour
He's quite good on the powerplay.. everyone thinks he is a stay home face puncher. He's quite good at zone exits and his shot is ridiculously hard! I think he was named Philly's D of the year this season ahead of guys like Provorov and Ghostisbere. I'd say he is easily our second best choice after Hronek. Only better option would be 4 forwards and Hronek.
