I would start hill for game 2. If he does good, you ride Hill. If he doesn’t, back to binnington for game 3. The problem with starting binnington for game 2 is if he sucks, you are forced to start a cold hill for game 3.

If Binnington had shut out the Swedes, or played in a uncontestedly brilliant manner, would you still start Hill in Game 2 to spread the load around and see if he's any better, or would you have continued with the hot hand?

At least one, maybe 2, of the 3 goals he let in should have been saved. He did make some big saves in OT and got the W, but I'm not convinced he's the best option they have right now.

Start Hill against the US.

I would have stayed with binner, but that isn’t what happened. That one goal he gave up is a really bad one, it was middle of the net. That goal alone is cause for concern.

I agree with this. Give your 1 and 2 guys games 1 and 2 and go with whoever you're more confident with in game 3. If game 3 goalie shits the bed but somehow Canada is playing in game 4, can always go to back to the other guy who has at least gotten a start under his belt.

I was just seeing as to whether it was performance-based or whether you felt that multiple goalies deserved a start simply because they showed up and deserve a shot.

...Binnington was more than just shaky for most of that game; he was constantly making himself small in the net...running with him, especially against the States, is a disaster waiting to happen...

Performance based. But we kinda knew, binnington was going to have some turbulence. He’s not a shutdown guy like price

Shaky to start or not, this is Bin Man we are talking about

If you aren’t riding him Saturday night against team US, you are out to lunch!

As I mentioned elsewhere, if Canada does not beat the U.S. or, at least, lose in O.T., our destiny is no longer in our hands.

If we lose to the U.S. in regulation and Sweden beats both Finland and the U.S., WE ARE OUT !!!

The other option is just the other less angsty Jordan Binnington, ie not good goalie who won with a great defensive team. So it doesn't really matter.

No. He didn't look good in game 1. "He made a some huge saves"... that's what literally any goalie should be expected to do in a game. Move on and give Hill or Montembault a chance.

If you start Hill against the Americans and he gets lit up, what then? You’ll have two goalies with shaken confidence.

Best to leave Binnington in with a somewhat short leash so you can turn to Hill if needed against the Americans to try to save the game, then start him against the weaker Fins for a confidence boost as well.

Would be dumb/shortsighted to start Hill IMO.

I think Hill should start against USA. Then we will find out which one to run for the rest of the tournament. I didn't think Binnington was bad. The only bad goal was probably the Kempe shot. I agree with @centipede2233 here : "The problem with starting binnington for game 2 is if he sucks, you are forced to start a cold hill for game 3."

If Canada loses to the US there is a very good chance it doesn’t matter who plays goal against Finland. They will have no control whether they make the Final. Saturday is a must win for Canada. Binnington is bad. He was only selected because the whole group of Canadian goalies stink.
