I'd bet @Antropovsky lunch that Marner is on the list .... MAGIC MITCH FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This dude seems to think Tavares will be on the team (and quite frankly he deserves to be).

Not a bad lineup, some people think Tom Wilson is a wild card... that he's on the injury replacement team.

He will more than likely be on it. It's good business too, he's a Leaf for one and one of the most widely discussed players in the league over the past 5 years...especially the last 2.

Question is, why wasnt the 11 million dollar player (soon to be 12+ million dollar player) not chosen first and Point and Marchand were? A top paid winger in the world and certain posters are excited Marner is on Team Canada's projected team? Let's cross our fingers and hope he gets picked over the 7-9 million dollar guys!

I've never said Marner wasn't a good player, I've always said he's just not worth what he is paid. It's Marner supporters who keep trying to twist others words into Marner sucks.

Disappointing that Rielly is no longer getting serious consideration for Team Canada. He would have been a virtual lock for the 2022 Olympics as one of the 7 D.

Using his "what hes heard" list:

Forwards so far:
McDavid
Crosby
MacKinnon
Point
Marchand
Marner
Konecny
Hagel
Cirelli
Reinhart
Bennet
Stone

On D so far:
Makar
Pietrangelo
Theodore
Sanheim
Morrisey

Goalies so far:
Hill
Binnington

He said he believes Marner will be the only Leaf to make the team.
He also said Doughty will not be on the list but team Canada reached out to him in the last 24 hours to say they will be keeping an eye on how he comes back from injury. Potential first call up in case of injury? Or maybe named 7th D? (Doughty stuff a little confusing.)

That leaves the 13th forward (not Tavares), 1 or 2 dmen (maybe Doughty) and the 3rd goalie.

While selfishly I'll be happy for JT to get some rest, I think he should be there over either Bennett or Cirelli but Bennett has the Cup/playoff/grit factor while Cirelli is having a career year and Cooper is biased.

Surprised to see Hagel and Cirelli on the list .. didn’t think they were that good
Cooper effect, but they are also both having career years which helps. Cirelli was leaned on a lot for defensive assignments by Cooper and now he's producing at a PPG clip to go with that so I'm sure that really worked in his favour.

Hagel is a legit selection if chosen.

He ranks 7th in the entire league in even strength points, kills penalties and is extremely versatile.

TK is on da team .. my son talked to him .. ps they are sworn to secrecy LOL .. he thinks it is Parako as 7th and Toews on D and Thompson as 3rd tender .. 13th forward likely Seth Jarvis

I don’t know Mitch Marner personally, but the drama surrounding him is something I’ve grown tired of.
  • The Gilmour name-dropping and incorporating his number into Marner’s salary. A clear PR move by Marner's camp, despite the fact Marner was only five when Gilmour retired, and they’re vastly different players.
  • The offer-sheet drama.
  • The LeBron-like "Letter to Fans" after signing his massive contract—again with the Leaf greats namedropping.
  • His dad complaining to the media about Marner not being in captaincy discussions.
  • His dad calling Gilmour to complain about Babcock.
  • The endless whining about media and social media scrutiny.
  • Frequently turning questions about teammates into comments about himself.
  • The childish dancing.
  • The need for the big goalie hugs and cliche sports superstions, "being the last player off the ice."
  • The big hats and mickey mouse outfits.
  • Tone-deaf statements like, "We’re treated like gods."
  • Constantly framing things as "me and Auston"—more name-dropping.
  • His contradictory statements... "you guys (leaf fans) expect alot and I wouldnt have it any other way" in his letter to fans..but then hes the biggest complainer about social media and criticism. Criticism that is more than warranted for a team who has one series winnin 8 years. Or calling the playoffs a war and the hardest trophy to win in sports, but then also being the softest player in the series, not playing physical and avoiding physical areas. Two seperate broadcasts did segments on his unspiring efforts vs Boston and there are numerous videos of him "pulling the chute".
No other Leaf generates anything close to this level of circus.

Individually, I could tolerate a couple of these. But taken together, it’s a mountain of attention-seeking and drama that has become a distraction for the team. If he ACTUALLY played with Gilmour's heart, maybe I could accept some of the attention seeking behavior, but his play doesnt back up his behavior. His perception of himself is much bigger than his play.

He reminds me of P.K. Subban in Montreal and P.K wore out his welcome in Montreal because of his antics.

However, even with the drama aside, I dont think soft, slow, perimeter players with weak shots can drive a line in the playoffs. Ive been correct in this assessment for the past 5 years. AND the money he gets, he absolutely should drive a line.

Marchand is basically only there because he previously played on a line with Crosby? Dude is having a terrible season.

I don’t think it does. You’re the one tagging me in a post where you can’t contain your excitement over Marner potentially making the team.

What’s more telling is that he was the 2nd highest-paid Canadian player under 30 years old a couple of years ago and is currently the 3rd highest-paid. Yet, you’re excited he might crack a 13-forward list, obviously alongside 10 players paid less than him. Most who will have made significantly less than him over the life of their contracts.

That’s a low standard. If he’d been worth his contract since 2019, he would’ve made the initial list with ease.

If anything his status with the Team Canada roster is beneficial to my argument regarding Marner and not yours.

What an odd discussion. Marner is an absolute lock to make this team.

I agree, I’d be surprised if he doesn’t make it. I'm unsure why I was tagged by Hellcat regarding it.

This is also just a gimmick for the NHL to make more money. It’s not the Olympics. Having Marner on the team would be important from a business stand point, considering he plays for the team with the biggest fan following and is likely one of the most searched NHL players, thanks to all the drama surrounding him over the past few years.

I think things would get more sticky for Marner if it were the olympics, but im not getting into it.

I can think of at least 5 guys off the top of my head that I'd prefer over Marchand.

I'm not sure we're bringing enough offensive firepower.

I think he would be an absolute lock for an Olympic team as well. I get that Leafs fans love to rag on the guy, but I think people don't know what they have until it's gone (that said, in this case, Marner isn't going anywhere).

The coaches chose the team, not the media. He's there because he's one of Canada's best RW'ers and that's all there is to it.
