For me

McDavid
MacKinnon
Crosby

Makar
Morrissey

I would say that it should be those six, but the sixth spot is iffy. Morrissey is the second best Canadian defenceman, even though people strangely sometimes think he his not a lock for the team, but I could see Marner in that spot. Final spots can be random... I still remember that Owen Nolan was one of the first eight named to the 2002 Olympic team.

TSN's story says that it is the current plan to have each team name six players in June and then the rest at the end of December.

Terrific team but not enough Lefties on their correct wing.

Suzuki is playing himself onto my team.

I try to leave my Habs fan bias aside, but he has been a stud since the 4 Nations. No way a guy like Cirelli should be there over him.

TSN saying that the first 6 players have to be named by June 15, deadline for the whole team expected to be December 31. Canada will have a summer orientation camp for the Olympic team in Calgary.

Suzuki is not gunning for Cirelli's job, thats where your argument falls apart.

But yeah Suzuki is one of the best 13 forwards we have in Canada for sure. Suzuki is more in competition with Stone and Reinhart.

Cirelli can win faceoffs against anyone, his job is safe. Its very important to have that guy for the defensive starts. Suzuki isn't that guy at all, he's getting better on faceoffs but to think he's in the faceoff elite is just wrong. If he's there, he will be a RW that can go play center if we need.

Is the summer camp open to watch? I'm going to be in Calgary this summer and would love to see it.
I don't recall any of the Olympic camps being open to the public, but I could be wrong. I do remember that in 2014 they didn't go on the ice, due to exorbitant insurance costs, and instead went through systems via ball hockey.

What is the point of the six players?

Just seems silly - name the whole team before the tournament.

Marketing I guess.

Marketing, not that it's necessary. I have five pucks somewhere in my house from when McDonalds released pucks to commemorate the first eight players named to the Canadian team for the 2002 Olympics. Two players per puck, and one puck for Canada's greatest patriot, Wayne Gretzky.

Of course famously it has been claimed by many that Roy was pissed off that he was not one of the first eight players named and then refused to play in that tournament, so that was fun.

Looking online now, it seems that only Canada had the McDonalds pucks but the top six countries all had to name players. Canada named its first 8 for the 2002 Olympics on March 21 2001, so essentially the same as Canada naming 8 players today. Dumb decicion, though the tournament went the right way.

1. Connor McDavid
2. Cale Makar
3. Nathan MacKinnon
4. Sidney Crosby
5. Brayden Point
6. Josh Morrissey

Could probably swap Mitch Marner in there.

Hagel Mackinnon Marner
Holloway McDavid Reinhart
Point Crosby Johnston
Marchand Bennett Wilson

Marchand will NOT be there. Reinhart is 50/50.
Reinhart is likely there. He found some mojo with Crosby and Mack. Arguably Canada’s best sharpshooter right now, in his prime, and if you’re getting rid of Stone and Marchand, provides a reliable 2-way presence. Can also play center and the PK if needed.

I think the top 6 from 4-Nations are all locks in management’s eyes. As much as some people hated on Cirell, I think he’s a lock too with Cooper being there. The ability to lock up a 1st PK unit with 2 players who play it all the time together is too tempting.

The rest of the forward slots (Marchand, Stone, Bennett, Jarvis, Konecny) are more up for grabs in my opinion.

I wish we had someone more "dynamic" that Reinhart.

Bennett is a lock. I really like Jarvis. Marchand and Stone are gone.

Watching Celebrini vs the Leafs... the kid is EVERYWHERE. The kid had an assist and the game winning shootout goal.

Screw player roles, I just want to dream:

Point McDavid Marner
Crosby MacKinnon Reinhart
Barzal Bedard Holloway
Thomas Celebrini Wright
Hagel/Strome

Makar - Toews
Morrissey -Theodore
Harley - Dobson
Power

This is only possible if Wright and Barzal hit PPG next season, Bedard and Celebrini take another half-step forward, Dobson finds his game, Toews doesn’t decline sharply, Power makes a massive leap and becomes one of the league’s top defensemen, while Holloway, Strome, Thomas, and Harley maintain their current pace.
Just imagine Canada’s center depth featuring four 1OA star centers - McDavid, MacKinnon, Bedard and Celebrini, with another 1OA in Crosby still in the squad. I want to watch all five of them together on the ice with Makar and no goalie, trying to tie a game or set up a delayed penalty, lol.
And by 2030, hopefully, the blue line will have three 1OAs as well – Power, Schaefer, and Dupont.

I was one of the first, if not the first, advocate for Seth Jarvis on these boards and I continue to be.
He will be on every BoB Canadian team for the next half dozen years.

P.S. Jarvis has 2 assists tonight - after 2 periods.

Locks in my opinion (ignore line composition):
Point - McDavid - Marner
Hagel - Mackinnon - Reinhart
- Crosby - Bennet

Makar - Toews
Morrissey - Theodore
Doughty - Harley

Binnington

Not a lock but more than likely to be on the team:
Stone - Cirelli - Thomas
Celebrini - Suzuki - Jarvis

Parayko
Pietrangelo

Hill
Thompson

Unlikely but not impossible they make the team:

Marchand - Johnston - Bedard
Hyman - Schieffle - Wilson
Konecny

Sanheim

Montembleaut

Thoughts:

I feel as though it will be one of Cirelli or Suzuki who makes the squad, not both. As they'll take one guy who can win faceoffs and is more defensively-minded. I'd take Suzuki, but with avoiding the Worlds and Cirelli playing for Cooper he may lose that battle.

Similar note but they'll take one of Marchand or Stone. Slower guys who play with a nasty physical edge. Right now I think it goes to Stone.

Again, similar note but I think one of Celebrini/Bedard makes it. Whoever is playing better at the time. I'd personally pick Bedard with that lethal right shot who loves the big games, but Celebrini is playing better right now, though he actually has more around him than Bedsy does in Chicago.

I really want Johnson to make it, but there's a lot of competition for maybe ~6 spots out of 14 forward positions that are realistically not accounted for. Hope he gives HC no choice early next season.

There were 9 defenseman named in the 4 Nations roster including Pietro who bailed, and Harley who came in for Theodore. The 8 choices will come from those 9. Throw a dart at a board blindfolded to see who's out. My choice is Pietro.
