Team Canada 2026

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

I would say that it should be those six, but the sixth spot is iffy. Morrissey is the second best Canadian defenceman, even though people strangely sometimes think he his not a lock for the team, but I could see Marner in that spot. Final spots can be random... I still remember that Owen Nolan was one of the first eight named to the 2002 Olympic team.

TSN's story says that it is the current plan to have each team name six players in June and then the rest at the end of December.

Suzuki is playing himself onto my team.

I try to leave my Habs fan bias aside, but he has been a stud since the 4 Nations. No way a guy like Cirelli should be there over him.

TSN saying that the first 6 players have to be named by June 15, deadline for the whole team expected to be December 31. Canada will have a summer orientation camp for the Olympic team in Calgary.

Suzuki is not gunning for Cirelli's job, thats where your argument falls apart.

But yeah Suzuki is one of the best 13 forwards we have in Canada for sure. Suzuki is more in competition with Stone and Reinhart.

Cirelli can win faceoffs against anyone, his job is safe. Its very important to have that guy for the defensive starts. Suzuki isn't that guy at all, he's getting better on faceoffs but to think he's in the faceoff elite is just wrong. If he's there, he will be a RW that can go play center if we need.

Is the summer camp open to watch? I'm going to be in Calgary this summer and would love to see it.
I don't recall any of the Olympic camps being open to the public, but I could be wrong. I do remember that in 2014 they didn't go on the ice, due to exorbitant insurance costs, and instead went through systems via ball hockey.

What is the point of the six players?

Just seems silly - name the whole team before the tournament.

Marketing I guess.

Marketing, not that it's necessary. I have five pucks somewhere in my house from when McDonalds released pucks to commemorate the first eight players named to the Canadian team for the 2002 Olympics. Two players per puck, and one puck for Canada's greatest patriot, Wayne Gretzky.

Of course famously it has been claimed by many that Roy was pissed off that he was not one of the first eight players named and then refused to play in that tournament, so that was fun.

Looking online now, it seems that only Canada had the McDonalds pucks but the top six countries all had to name players. Canada named its first 8 for the 2002 Olympics on March 21 2001, so essentially the same as Canada naming 8 players today. Dumb decicion, though the tournament went the right way.
