Olympics: Team Canada 2026

Even during the 1972 Summit Series USSR was not talking about annexing Canada and taking direct and harmful actions against the country, but that is USA in 2025.

Now watch as we get a Finland - Czech snoozefest in the gold medal game.

I think it's likely they bring at least 2 youth into their starting line-up after the lack of offence from the bottom 6 in 4 nations.
 
I see a lot of people have Bennett on their mock rosters, and I would too. My thing with Bennett is that he's a similar player to Hyman. If he starts next season off slow, it's likely he gets left off for a similar player such as a Tom Wilson or they may opt for a younger guy.

For now, he deserves to be on the team and was a key part in the Championship Game at 4-Nations. Just some food for thought.

I think the america team will learn from their 4 nations mistakes and leave nelson, trochek and kreider home and bring Jrob, tage and Keller instead. Add in a Hughes and mcavoy (barring injuries), the US are the prohibit favourite.

As a Canadian, the only saving grace is Mike sullivan will still be the coach, and hope he decides to have Hughes and fox again in overtime. What a meat head.

Canada will be in tough. If we add some bigger players, while I still believe the U.S. is due (and will win) in 2026, the teams will be pretty even.

One advantage for Canada is injuries to the U.S.'s best players - the U.S.'s best players are injury prone. As a Leaf fan, I don't know if Matthews will ever be the same.

Just enjoy our victory. My guess : 2028 will be the rubber match.

Also, being an Olympic event, iif rules, that will protect the tkachuks from doing dumb things like fighting. I whole heartedly agree, the US team will have their moment. Not what I want, it’s just that Canada doesn’t win all the time. Next year will be team USA time unfortunately.

Crosby and Reinhart very good players, but absolutely ineffective against the speed game of team USA. And they didn’t have Jrob, tage or Hughes…

Jrob and Tage are not perfect players - there's a reason they were kept off the U.S. roster.

As for Quinn Hughes...

His brother was HOT garbage so... Let's hope for the same. :)

The US's time to shine is now. They have the better team. BUT Canada does have enough depth to steal the Americans' Gold Medal again. We just need to choose the right players. Outside of the big 4 (McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby, Makar), we have Point, Reinhart, Marner, Barzal, Thomas, Kyrou, Suzuki, Bedard, Celebrini, Johnston, Morrissey, Theodore, Bouchard. We need to bring a few guys like that. Our 2-way depth is impeccable with guys like Stone, Jarvis, Cirelli, Bennett, Konecny, Wilson and Hagel. Less of these guys this time around.

That supporting group is not that far off from the Americans, we just need to prioritise skill and speed to make it a close match and our big 4 are the tipping point AND Binnington needs to Binnington again. A healthy American D-Core is a scary thought and it will be them that wins them the Olympics.

In 2 games vs USA, mcdavid and mackinnon scored 3 of the 4 goals. Our depth sucked. Thank god Bennett came up clutch

Yes, that’s because the right depth was not selected. Too many role players in our bottom 6. Having some of Thomas, Scheifele, Bedard, Barzal, Kyrou, Johnston could have worked wonders.

You don’t need your entire bottom 6 to be filled with grinders. Adding 2-3 offensively-oriented players won’t affect the defensive identity of those lines and allows them to generate. An example of this was when Marner was moved with the Lightning boys. I thought they looked really well together and it was Marner who set up Bennett for that goal. More of that

This guy has turned down playing in the World Championships 2 or 3 times now, despite the Habs not making the playoffs and him being completely healthy.

maybe he actually goes this year, with the resurgence of international hockey, players may be more interested in reporting than before.
