WC: Team Canada 2025

Apparently Kyle Dubas will be sending out the invites this April/May.

Not great,,,but more interested on who he selects as the coach,

I saw that too. I'd be open to Todd MacLellan coaching the team. Coached the dominant 2015 team and would probably be comfortable doing what Hockey Canada requested with a team with hopefully some Olympic hopefuls.

The playoff picture is getting muddled.
Somebody floated the idea that Doughty is interested in a shot at the "infamous" "triple gold club. LOL. I don't for a second believe that he is, but for the sake of argument Edmonton drops LA in the opening rd. (not a guarentee) and Doughty is in. I'd sweeten the pot and offer him the C. Bring Byfield, Clarke and Kuemper with you.
Horvat accepts and brings his cousin Konecny with him. Travis wants to secure his spot going to Italy next year.

MTL, OTT and SLB. Hockey Canada won't wait around. They will name players and then run of spots when better players become available.

Waiting on 7-8 players to finish Rd. 1 is a bit much...but

I'd like to see Holloway, Neighbours get in some high intensity playoff action and then agree to extend their season in a Team Canada sweater. I'd drop Lafreniere for either Holloway or Neighbours.

And now starts the daily checking and rechecking on the WHC thread for any insights into the team.

Thanks for all the sleuthing boys, looking forward to another great tournament.

That's a terrific team.

Montreal lost AGAIN. Someone in their forum said that Suzuki is out of gas after carrying the team for the entire season - and that is why the team has dropped 5 straight. That does not bode well for Suzuki playing at the World Championships.

Suzuki won't play for Team Canada until Coach Cooper is gone. Quick napkin maths, for the 4 nations there is 7 forwards worse than Suzuki. Konechni, Cirelli, Stone, Marchand , Stone, Jarvis,Bennett, Hagel. Coach Cooper doesn't like him because he played Montreal in the finals. Yes he could use the rest, but he could still play. Coach St-Louis is trying to double shift him when he can.

I doubt Cooper and the 2021 Finals has much to do with it. Although, I do think Hockey Canada using the WC against him is childish. Also, The players you listed were there for different reasons.

Stone: Was seen as one of Canada’s best and more established wingers prior to 4-Nations. His hot start and leadership abilities pretty much made him a lock. I HIGHLY doubt he’s there in 2026.

Marchand: A pick that Hockey Canada wanted to take back after initially naming him in the first 6. Unfortunately, he was already locked in.

Hagel: Quite easily Canada’s best natural LW. He’s been a top 10 ES point scorer for 2 seasons now and is one of the game’s best forecheckers. There was no way he was getting left off, especially if Cooper was there.

That leaves Jarvis, Bennett, Cirelli and Konecny. I will admit that Suzuki should have made it over a couple of those players. However, all these players were there for different reasons. Suzuki isn’t as good of a shutdown center as Cirelli or as good of a forechecker as Konecny. He doesn’t provide size and agitation like Bennett.

So, Suzuki was the odd man out. He has a strong chance to make 2026 as Canada likely shifts to taking more well-rounded players in their bottom-6 rather than purely focusing on roles.
