New roster. Couturier is back from IR and M. Reilly and S Weber are out for J. Chychrun and A Ekblad,

J HUBERDEAUC MCDAVIDM SCHEIFELE
J TAVARESN MACKINNONM MARNER
B MARCHANDS CROSBYP BERGERON
R O’REILLYS COUTURIERM STONE
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
B POINT B HORVAT
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
D NURSEA PIETRANGELO
S THEODOREC MAKAR
T CHABOTC PARAYKO
J CHYCHRUNA EKBLAD
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
IR:
J BINNINGTON
C PRICE
C HART

Chychrun is not good enough defensively at this point and there are better offensive defensemen than him. Ekblad though has been great and completely merits a spot instead of turnover merchant Morgan Reilly

Yeah, I could see Ekblad working his way into the top-6.

Chabot - Pietrangelo
Theadore - Makar
Hamilton - Ekblad
Rielly

Hamilton deserves a spot, but I’d have someone like Rielly as an extra LHD in case he doesn’t play well in his off-side.

I am sure he will find himself on the team.

But does anyone else have an uneasy feeling about Rielly being out on the ice with a game on the line in the 3rd period?

Nurse will be on this team, what a year he’s having so far, probably a Norris front runner at this point.

If he continues playing like this, then for sure he should have a spot. I'm a little concerned that I have him ahead of Chabot at the moment. but that's more to do with that anchor of a d partner Chabot is tied to. Ultimately Chabot finds his way to the number 1 pairing. I do like Nurse on a line with McDavid and Makar w/Nate...got to take some chemistry where you can find it.

Whenever Chabot gets away from the dumpster fire that is the Kanata Senators he’s played well, living over here I get to watch all world championship games at a reasonable time and he’s been Canada’s best defenseman in the two that he has gone to

Norris front runner? Easy, Snipes.

I could see him getting on the team though, especially with Canada having more defenceman on the right side.

Doughty? Even Weber?

Byram is getting a lot of hype and talk. But I really wasn't 100% impressed with him at the World Juniors 1.5 months ago, let alone an Olympic team. Some people I watched the tournament with had the same conclusion.

He had a tendency to keep giving the puck away in the neutral-zone, which led to some odd-man rushes. It happened at least 2-3 times every game, but since it was happening against 18 year old Swiss or Slovakian players it didn't cost Canada.

It would cost them against Kucherov, Matthews, etc. though.

He was trying to be Captain Canada in the WJC and do it all himself but he's simplified his game in the NHL. I do agree though, he shouldn't be in the Olympics talk right now.

I hear people suggesting Byram could make it. I think thats going to be tough. I only give him a slight chance because its one of Canada's weakest positions, but its hard to believe a guy who probably won't even get 82 games in by the time the team is selected has a chance to make the team. It's not as if Byram is a Crosby or McDavid type of talent either that walks into the NHL and is one of the best players.

Byram should have a good chance to play for Canada at these tournaments in the future, but I find it hard to believe that when the team is selected that he's all that close to being as good as players such as Nurse, Morrissey, Girard, Pelech, Chychrun, let alone Chabot, Theodore, Rielly.

Marner is a first line winger on team Canada this year. Last year? no. This year? Yup.

I doubt he makes it but great seeing that he's being watched man he's good. He averaged 24min in the two last games against Vegas. His poise and calmness is very impressive at his age I'm more impress with him than I was with Makar when he came in not to mention that he's younger. He has nothing to do with the kid you saw in the WJC I think he tried to do too much and probably felt he was highly relied upon so tried to make risky plays. In his first couple NHL games he looked shaky made couple bad plays. Since then he adjusted he has been very reliable defensively, excellent skater and quick learner. The more you see him the more he makes plays that a veteran would do. Very liked the comparison of a young Duncan Keith in his prospect thread.

I think we are getting a bit too excited about the defense and forgetting some others. Look, I like Thomas Chabot, but why he is on everyone's list? Right now the defense could look like this:

Rielly-Doughty
Theodore-Makar
Burns-Pietrangelo
Parayko/Weber

I don't know why Byram is getting a nod here. Or even Dougie Hamilton. We should be doing better than this, I think. Kris Letang wouldn't be any worse than some of these picks, nothing against Letang. But if you want Hamilton why not pick Burns instead? We'll need some size and sandpaper as well as some mobility but it can't all be one way. You have to envision that you pick a defense that can excel against any team. The U.S. is as far as I am concerned the biggest competition but you can't revolve around how you plan to beat them. That didn't work in 1998 because then we weren't built for the other teams as well. You still need some wily vets in there. Why is Doughty more or less an afterthought with some people now? He's on my team for sure and Weber could be also. Both are better than Chabot.

Our forwards are where I don't worry. When you have to wonder if you even have room for Steve Stamkos, John Tavares, Ryan O'Reilly and Taylor Hall then that is a very good problem to have.

Barzal in - Tavares out. NYI fans will probably see some poetic justice in that. not sure where Barzal might fit in on a line, however. If Marner doesn't get it done with McDavid, then perhaps there.

I like this lineup. I can't see Point not having a regular line spot though.
