Per TSN, Doug Armstrong will likely be GM flanked by Francis and Holland. This is unfortunate, as I would have liked to have seen Sakic and Brisebois have some sort of involvement, as the teams they have built are fast, move the puck well, and have good balance, all factors for international success.

Wonder if that puts Berube in the drivers seat to be coach (still think its Cooper). What exactly has Francis done to warrant a GM spot? Questionable choice.

There's 0% chance (not even 0.1% chance) Carey Price isn't the starting goalie for Canada as of today.

If Price shits the bet at training/camp start and Hart takes over, maybe. Or if Price this upcoming season has a really bad season and Hart a great one, maybe.

But as of today - it's 100% Price for #1.

I do think Hart will be there - not sure Kuemper makes the#3 though, that'd surprise me a lot too.

Similarly to Price - in my opinion there's no way Doughty and Weber don't make Team Canada as of today. That can change in 1 more year I suppose, but as of today they both 100% make it. We all know how conservative Team Canada always is.

D men also can generally play at a higher level than forwards well into their mid 30s.

I’d bet both Weber and Doughty would be there.

Team Canada loves their veteran guys. Anyone thinking those two won't be there is out to lunch.

This would be my team. Stone handles the defensive responsibilities on the top line and McDavid gets to run wild on opposing defences. I like Lafreniere on the 4th line which I have as the ‘shutdown line’. He’s great in battles and strong on his skates and would fit well with two of the best defensive players in hockey.

Another year older. I’d look to control his minutes a little bit at age 36/37. He’d still play an important role, with his defensive responsibilities, but I like Scheifele in the prime of his career next to Sid.

not too many changes other than Couturier on the IR. which kinds screws everything up. tough lineup to config. but when he comes off IR then Huberdeau is demoted to the B-team.

I thought about replacing Morrissey for Girard for a brief second, as a setup man for Parayko's canon of a shot. but leave Morrissey in for now. the roster will evolve as the season plays out.

Looks as though D Toews will be out for a bit with an injury. Still not liking where M Reilly's game is at the moment, so I would probably replace Toews with Nurse or Girard. probably Girard. but who knows.

Interesting choices on d. Good skating/offensive group but aside from Weber pretty soft (IMO). Not necessarily a detriment though because I think most countries are going to be built that way.

Indifferent on the goaltending as it doesn't really matter who is in the #3 slot. I haven't liked what I've seen from Morrissey and Doughty this year so I can see them being replaced. Parayko is a nice add but I think Byram is too young. Up front, Canada has the luxury of swapping out star for star but again, not sure a guy like Suzuki is ready for this kind of spot light.

I"m not sure how you don't go with XXX-ROR-Stone as your 4th line (and probably 1st unit PK), with XXX ideally being Couturier but he's probably a longshot. I'd definitely have those guys in the starting lineup ahead of Stamkos and possibly Marner given the abundance of offense Canada already has.

I'd be stunned if Byram is anywhere close to this team; if he ends up playing significant time with Makar on the top pairing for the Avs I could see the attraction of taking a already-established pair, but IMHO Canada typically takes a very conservative approach to lineup selection and there are just too many established vets that will be in line ahead of him.

Edit: Ok, button actually has that 4th line in his revised lineup. Schiefle is a decent fit there.

To bad our defense isn't great anymore. Or pales to the legends we once had especially on the left side.

Doughty will be there. There are players who elevate and go beyond what they do in the NHL when playing internationally, like Rick Nash in 2014. Doughty will do likewise in 2022 I believe.

I don't see Byram making it. He'll have just over a year of NHL experience by next February. While is true Doughty made the 2010 squad, he had at least played a full season and was in the process of garnering a Norris nomination.

Speaking of; I fully expect DD to be on the team.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cirelli make a push for this team. Has been great internationally and will benefit from Cooper likely being the coach (no offense to Craig Berubé but you can’t give the Lamborghini keys to a bus driver)
