Russians have all the KHL players, they will bee clear cut contenders, imo. Followed by Swedes, Finns, Czeczhs who should be able to form good teams for this level from their local leagues.
7 Liiga players at the 2022 Olympics, just 2 in Team Finland.

Really, so few> I had not seen the lineups, so I was not aware of that, but I'm surprised.
EDIT: ok, Jokerit (KHL) should have players for Finns, and there are more Finns in KHL and other leagues I suppose

Are people actually going to watch this? It's like the Spengler Cup but much worse

In what way is this worse than the Spengler?
The way I see it, this team is basically a Spengler Cup calibre team but with the addition of some elite level U20 talent.

I know people are obviously disappointed and will downplay this roster, but it's IMO just as good as any in the field, with the exception of Russia. Remember, Canada won a bronze last go around (and Germany a silver). Those who are predicting that this team won't even medal are completely out to lunch.

Yeah I am going to watch them compete for a medal. It's the Olympics. This team would spank Spangler cup teams. I also watch the spenglar cup. Why even post that? As a habs fan it might be a nice escape from this embarrassment of a season for you.

Canada has some Khl players that are some of the best players in that league. They are easily a top 3 roster in this tournament.

The rosters is about what could be expected. I am surprised Di Domenico is not invited, he is absolutely on a tear in the Swiss league and would have been a great skill addition.

I agree that this team will definately play for a medal, it is not a sure thing as the Olympics are wide open for the top 8 countries but Canada is definately in the mix.

I think many are forgetting that this tourney will not played on big ice. Many Europeans may actually struggle on smaller ice, giving some advantage to Canadians and American.

Canada is not clear gold medal favourite but definitely in the mix.
My only concern with this team, there won’t be that much of preparations compared other nations which can affect the performance.

I see Finland as the clear cut favorite, the whole team has won world championships together in tougher tournaments with full NHL opponents. They have so much familiarity with each other and in their system. Russia has a good roster, Sweden has a lot of pros. Germany was in the olympic final last time so they have some experience and Czech gets a decent roster out too. All of them are well above Spengler cup level, and that is what this team Canada looks like without the few juniors. Anything can of course happen, and this roster is miles ahead of USA

Well teams built around KHL players are considered favorites and KHL is playing mostly on a small ice for a few years now so the "big ice" argument is hardly relevant.

We will see, i think you underestimating these teams, same way you did at the world championships this past year.

it is going to nice when canada beats "the unstoppable KHLers " russia with bunch of ahlers and players from other leagues.

Really wonder that Street 0,97 P/G (25) is on the team instead of Akeson 1,42 P/G (1).
Akeson leads the leauge and has better stats as Stastny, Wheeler or Benn had during lockout in the DEL.

Hard to believe some of the comments in here. What exactly were you expecting if it wasn’t a Spengler Cupish roster with the best junior aged players mixed in? Did you think some NHL players were going to quit the NHL to come play in this tournament?

This tournament is going to be great. I would’ve preferred NHL players but no sense crying over it now. Enjoy the show.

It'd be an even greater victory if other countries were calling their team a group of 'unstoppable KHLers'.

I wasn't crying over it, I was stating the same things you did. This is the crop that could be picked from so this is how it is. I was expecting NHL players, but since that was taken away, this is what we get. I'm not going to exaggerate their chances, anything is possible in a single game elimination setting.

I like the team... I see it like this now:

Tier 1 - Russia and Finland
Tier 2 - everyone else but
Tier 3 - China (and those games will be closer)

Before it was

Tier 1 - Canada
Tier 2 - Finland, US, Sweden Russia
Tier 3 - Czechs, Swiss, Germans
Tier 4 - Slovaks, Danes, Latvia
Teir 5 - China with no hope

I'd say Canada has a 50% chance of a medal and 25% of Gold. It's as good a team as any and will come down to good coaching and chemistry. Finn's have Sisu but Canada has some insane intangibles too.

Good luck!

Anybody know how Josh Ho-Sang can be on this team while being under contract in the AHL?

Nearly all the players participating are under contract in a league somewhere. AHL players have been permitted to participate just like KHL, SHL, NLA, CHL, Liiga... players have.

edit: I should probably add that AHL contract players are permitted to play. Players under NHL contract playing in the AHL are not.
