Yeah he's a clear 6. Not sure exactly how Cooper will use him because there's also some history with Gourde and Cirelli, and it wouldn't shock me if Coop tries to see if there's anything left there, if only for the tenacity.

I can also see us going with Bjork and Gourde as a third line duo, just for the depth.
Seattle fans seem to think Gourde should stay with Bjork so maybe that is the move

I don't think Tampa is a very serious contender for the cup, but I can see why fans would get on board and try for it. Also, it makes sense to go all in until it completely falls apart, which it hasn't yet.
Idk. TB rankings leaguewide:
Goals for: 2nd
Goals against: 7th
Powerplay: 6th
Penalty Kill: 10th
Goal differential: 3rd
Vasilevskiy top 3 in basically all goalie stats
Hedman top 5 in basically all defense stats
McDonagh league leader in +/- (worthless stat but he has been unreal defensively this year)
Hagel third player ever to hit 30 goals with ZERO power play goals
Kucherov top 3 in points
4 guys on pace for 40 goals
I hear the coach is decent too.
They had a rough month and the depth scoring was poor. At the beginning of the year they blew a few leads and now they've won 22 straight (I believe) when leading after two periods.

I'm not saying they're a clear cut favorite, but there aren't all that many teams that matched up GREAT against them before they added these two guys. Now they are pretty scary. Is it possible they meet FLA in round 1 and lose? Sure. Is it possible they reach the final? Not out of the question

My GM.

Leafs tried this before “draft-schmaft” bullshit. It’s dumb and doesn’t work.

After this kind of robbery by Seattle other teas better not start overpaying like this

Cool, I don't really care.

Bjorkstrand was traded as basically a cap dump, and hasn't improved in a way that say Granlund has to rehab his value to that of a top prospect. He's a fine 2nd liner, but those are a dime a dozen every July 1. His significant value comes with retention as I've suggested right along.
Except he wasn't retained in this trade and we got a 1st and Essyimont for him so you're completely shit up the creek without a paddle in your valuations. Just take the L dude. You don't have to be right about everything.

I'd be curious to see someone make a list of everyone who was drafted with all the picks Tampa has been trading away over the last 5 years. My guess is they didn't really miss out on much.

This is a solid trade for Tampa overall. They only give up futures and Eyssimont, a solid 4th liner. They get exactly what they needed: a solid 2nd line RW, who's signed for another year at a decent contract. I'm not sure it was worth the extra assets to get a heavily retained Gourde, but they were lacking good depth forwards, and he's a great guy to have for a playoff run.

People always say Brisebois tends to overpay in trades, but I think it's mostly because he goes for better assets than most deadline shoppers: often guys with good contracts, and extra years (IMO fans really undervalue those aspects). Basically, players that teams don't like to trade away. Bjorkstrand isn't a rental, and while Gourde is, given his age/injuries/history with Tampa he can probably be retained for cheap in the offseason.

It's good for Seattle too, if they're blowing it up. Bjorkstrand is probably at the peak of his value, and Gourde won't do much for them if they're not planning to contend in the near future.

A late 1st is still a far cry from the Howard/Geekie valuations at the start of this thread
