I don't really get this. Is there an imminent trade? This puts us at 21/23 roster spots and we were already cap compliant with Halverson on the roster after Sheary got called up this morning, so no need for a paper transaction. Is JBB finally cooking?

Pretty sure this is standard for signing someone who to an NHL contract mid-season who's not signing their ELC

Really? How come?

What he's talking about only applies if a player has played for another league during the same season, like the KHL or something like that. Halverson was already on an AHL contract with Syracuse, so that rule doesn't apply to him.

The real answer is that he got called up to be the backup for a game, which is why they signed him to the NHL contract, and now he's being sent back down, which requires waivers.

The thing is Johansson isn't supposed to be back before the end of the Four Nations tournament and we were already cap compliant and at 22/23 roster spots before they sent down Halverson. So I don't understand why he'd be on waivers. Johansson is only considered day to day and never left the roster, so he was one of those 22 players already. I don't understand why else he'd have been sent down other than to make room for incoming players but no trades seem imminent other than Elliotte linking the Bolts to Alex Tuch this morning IF he's even available.

I'm assuming they intend to send him back down to play for Syracuse while the Four Nations is happening and would need to waive him at some point anyway. I can't think of any reason for them to wait a couple more days when it's obviously going to happen.

Makes sense. That post also has one key piece of info - this is not an ELC, so the player is not waiver exempt. I suppose one could say that the players that do not have waiver exempt status have to pass thru waivers the first time they are assigned to the AHL. Normally it would happen at the start of the season, that's when most AHL assignments happen. Halverson did not have an NHL contract at the start of they year, so he wasn't "assigned" to the AHL. For Halverson this is technically his first AHL assignment under his newly minted NHL contract.

Wow, what an absolute blast from the past

I remember him being Rangers top goalie prospect 😂

He played a total of 13 minutes of NHL hockey after King Henrik got pulled after getting smashed by the Sens.
