They said Chicago was going to a full rebuild. I guess they don't think they'll be competitive for the next two years and then his contract runs out. His value will never be higher so good move trading him now.

I bet he lands a HAUL. 25-30-goal scorers making $1.5m are insanely valuable in the cap world. It's like a star kid at the start of an ELC.

Unlikely as it is, but doesn't this also feel like something Yzerman would do. He was after all, "Tampa".

Hagel is a nice middle six forward but he's hardly someone you rebuild around. I'm not sure there's anyone currently in their system worth rebuilding around tbh. This is gonna be a 5+ year process if they want to do it right.
With Kane and Toews still around, and after signing Jones? I class the Hawks as one of the many non playoff teams who want to restock and go for the playoffs next year. There are only 2-4 teams who are truly looking further.

If Hagel keeps up this pace for two more seasons after this one he'll be expensive to re-sign. Conversely if the Hawks hold onto him and he falls back down to earth next year they'll have blown an opportunity to cash out at max value.

Hagel on his contract is infinitely more valuable to a cap-strapped contender (which is pretty much all of them) than a rebuilding team for whom cap space isn't really a consideration.

I think we will understand why they traded him based on the return.
Woah thanks for the explanation! I had been trying to understand why they'd wanna trade a young guy on a solid contract right now, but this does make sense. Thanks!

I prefer Lehkonen to Hagel slightly in a vacuum but the difference is Hagel will cost $1.5 million for 22-23 + 23-24. Lehkonen is due a substantial raise this summer. For a capped out contending team looking to beef up it's middle-six rotation - that contractual difference is huge, even if you do plan on keeping Lehkonen around with a new deal after acquiring him.

A capped out team is going to offer substantially more for Hagel because of his deal.

I’m guessing Bolts . Amazing contract value and Bolts willing to spend whatever it takes.
What style of game does he play? Is he a gritty type player ? Or more a skilled perimeter guy

Toronto is probably a good bet. Need defense and goaltending bad. Dubas: “oooh, another forward? Me likey”.
Toronto also needs a forward. Our 2nd and 4th line have been a bit of a mess this season. The success we have had this season is because our first and 3rd line have been fantastic. That said the solution to that could come internally.

But someone with Hagel’s cap hit would allow them to still have the cap space to address the defence. Goaltending would be much harder in season.

No, Hagel is going to cost a 1st and a good prospect and nothing I've seen from Hextall suggests he'd trade that kind of package.
But that implies that Hextall/Burke are the kind of management who tips their hand — this is exactly the opposite of how these two have always been, keeping their cards extremely close.

I’m not predicting that it will be Pittsburgh, but we’ve already determined who gives A.F. about a late 1st for a guy who is locked up on a great contract for a few years.

I buy the idea that the Pens wouldn’t want to trade valuable futures for a rental, but considering he’s not a rental and one of the few players out there that could fit into our cap, it would absolutely be right in the Pens’ wheelhouse. And also almost every other team as well, which is why he’s a great fit almost everywhere.

Same for me and we know Lehkonen is as his best in the playoffs.

It would be so Tampa...also to have everybody laugh at their lack of picks and prospects while they keep stuffing their rafters with Stanley Cup banners.

they were also listed as one of the teams that were mentioned as most interested earlier this season.
