Wouldn't be opposed to Kane or Tarasenko

If JBB doesn't sign Guentzel now and then tries to go back to Stammer, only to be rejected again than he should be fired.
Tank is no longer a top 6 player. I would love Kane for a year, but he's going to want some bank to do it.

He has no leverage with Guentezel either. He either gives him what he wants or looks like an idiot.
And then looks like an idiot for signing another bad contract after jettisoning one yesterday. Just because he's backed himself into a corner.

And likely causing discord in the room for bringing in an outsider and paying him near what Kucherov and Point make. All while kicking the heart and soul guy they all respect out the door.

Yes, it's a business. But, they can have a disgruntled work force real soon and that causes a trickle down effect.

Don't forget Stamkos' post playoff news conference about how guys take/sign for less to stay in Tampa. But let's bring in someone near or over the top tier salary on the team.

in the average workplace, this pisses people off real fast.

He's still a top 6 player, and one that Tampa could likely afford. Most of the higher end top 6 players aside from those that they are already linked to will be too expensive to sign (Toffoli, JAM, Bertuzzi most likely etc) and still address the various other positions

I can see it now.
Some of the folks posting on this page will be much older, greyer, and have their grandkids and great grandkids listening to them still complaining about the Jeannot trade.
Jeannot is gone, time to move on and find your new scapegoat.

Sustr, Carle, Purcell, etc. have all been immortalized in Lightning lore. Jeannot will always be remembered.

Agree to disagree on Tarasenko. I haven't been that impressed with him in a couple years. Dude was not great in the playoffs either.

Tank is a passenger, glad we didn't pick him up last offseason. Let someone else have him if he wants paid

So is it Guentzel OR Stamkos? Is there no way to get both?
Had JBB given Stammer given him his preferred 5M (after trading Serg and Jeannot), then traded for Guentzels rights, yes.

We could easily afford both now, but JBB pushing Stammer aside seems to have burned the bridge. JBB doesn't want Stammer back

Yep. When JBB said both camps hadn't changed their stance after he freed up cap space, it spelled the end of Stamkos here.

He was on pace for w5 goals and 60 points last year playing on a bad Ottawa team before he was traded to Florida. He wasn't asked to do as much there but still had 14 points in 19 games. He was usually in a more supporting role in the playoffs, but still had an impact. For a player in the ~4 range, he should definitely be one of at least several on JBB's radar. He also has good playoff experience, and, provided he can remain healthy, has.been a.more.consisgent player than some of the streaker players in the same price range. I'm guessing they bring Duclair back a little cheaper most likely if possible. They traded for him, and he definitely improved the play of the top 6, but Tarasenko should be considered.

No, not easily, as if Guentzel and Stamkos ate up 13-14 million, they'd have 2.5 left for Moser, a 7th dman, and 2 more F to reach a 22 player roster. More moves would've been needed to make it work. Sheary likely has to be traded/waived/bought out in any case though, so after that it would've been possible, but still very close.

The more time passes, the more this Guentzel thing is starting to stink. Truly hope we can sign him, otherwise it will be quite bad.

If we get Guentzel signed we really need to trade Cirelli for an actual offensive centerman, you can't have Hagel, Kucherov, Guentzel and possibly Stamkos on the wing being dragged down by an offensive black hole.

When is the last time someone traded for a player's rights and was unable to sign them?

Don't worry, Cirelli won't drag them down. He'll let them do their thing while he stays back and plays elite defense.

Today. Tampa for Guentzel, apparently.

+1

I'll take Stamkos at the cost of Cirelli anytime

Like seriously, anyone with offensive vision is going to get like a 20 point boost, that ain't Selkerelli though.

Like you said, even with Guentzel we're still in kind of a tough situation in the top 6 as far as offensive production. We're a one line team maybe more than ever.

Guentzel - Point - Kucherov
Hagel - Cirelli - XXXXX

They have to bring in someone dynamic for the second line wing. Also, they need someone to replace Stamkos in the left circle PP.

That second line is not gonna cut it, and I don't think Tank or Duclair make that top 6 much better than it was the last month or two of the season last year anyway.

There is already the cap space to sign Stammer. But there is not the will to sign Stamkos (for what he'd agree)

Tragic. Stamkos is such a good example of a top athlete when it comes to training and such...
