Also, I feel like it's maybe been lost to history that this guy went 48-31-9 over a two year period in which he had a .891

All other goalies during that period with a sub-.900 save percentage combined for a record of 325-450-117.

That's a winning percentage of 55% against a winning percentage of 36%

The next-worst goalies to win more than half their games during that timespan were up in the .904, .905 range.

One thing I noticed, is that the Canes seem to be struggling in the dot so far. Last year, they were the 4th best team in the NHL at the dot. This year, they are 21st. Sample size? or is the new crackdown on face off violations impacting them?

Of our frequent faceoff takers:

Jordan Staal 59.1% -> 54.6%
Victor Rask 49.8% -> 44.6%
Derek Ryan 55.3% -> 55.6%
Elias Lindholm 55.6% -> 40.0%
Jay McClement 48.2% -> Marcus Kruger 42.9%
Teuvo Teravainen 46.7% -> not taking enough to matter

As usual, Ryan's the only guy carrying his weight.

I'm honestly surprised it was only one shutout. I remember him giving us fits.

I looked through his game logs. In three different games Carolina scored their only goal of the game in the third period. I think the final scores were 2-1(Stillman scored with 14 seconds left), 5-1, and 6-1. Fits is an accurate description.

Rask FO% is bad, but his overall game has been shit, so I believe he can improve it a lot
Kruger needs to be better, his been around 50% last few seasons, and we need him to be like that here, I don`t know why he is suddenly 8% worse than previous years

Kruger is the one that bugs me, he's getting 63% d-zone starts right now, you can't have your primary defensive matchup player getting beat up in the faceoff circle like that (despite what Oiler fans will tell you)

It's true. 15 wins, 20 losses. one decent game could put him over 50%. Actually I'm a little surprised after looking at the raw numbers how few faceoffs he's taken. Lindy for instance has taken 50 total faceoffs as opposed to Kruger's 35 and he's not even the primary faceoff man on his own line.

Just dropping by to wish you luck and to pay respects. I was telling the Lightning fans that your defense is the best kept secret in the NHL and that Ronnie Francis has done an immaculate job. I can't speak for Hurricanes fans but as an outsider I see the plan in place and it scares the heck out of me. And again I can't speak for the Hurricanes fans either but Bill Peters is arguably the most underrated coach in the NHL. I know the results you guys WANT have not come yet but believe me it's not far off.

You're the most promising rebuilding franchise in the NHL by far. I can't wait to see how far the Canes have come and if the Lightning are up for the challenge of staying consistently great.

We shouldn't but that doesn't mean much. Stamkos and Hedman are the only survivors from as far back as the Rick Tocchet era of 2009 but even as far back as then we'd beat Ovechkin and the Caps 4-3 in OT and then drop a game to the Oilers. Not that this actually happened but it gives an idea of how far the pendulum swings and for how long.

I don't know whether to call it habit or conditioning to expect this
