just saw an Oilers fan claim that the Oilers won the trade easily because Hall will walk when his contract is up lol

 Ok that's 4 years away. And Larsson is up the yer after that. I'm guessing that person has no clue.

I saw a Ranger fan on twitter last night complaining about Sather not getting involved to drive the price up to stop it from happening. No responders pointed out Sather isn't the GM anymore. I wish I could find that tweet. It was gold.

Think about this for a second, Chiarelli in his tenure with Boston and Edmonton has traded Wheeler, Seguin AND Hall. How does that man still have a job? Sadly, the "best" trade he has done IMO would be the Larsson deal. Wheeler and Stuart for Peverley and Valabik. Seguin and Peverley (the irony) for Eriksson, Morrow, Smith, and Fraser. After Eriksson walks tomorrow, he'll have exactly zero useful parts left from that trade. I am sad to have seen Larsson go but that was the kind of return that makes it manageable. I feel bad for the kid because Edmonton is hot garbage and he's always going to be measured against the impending mega-success of Hall :) Still, holy crap we got Taylor Hall!!!!

We traded Adam Larsson for Taylor Hall.

Still letting that sink in.

I actually think it's bigger than the Kovy trade:
-Kovy, at the time, was a rental. Hall is signed for 4 years.
-We gave up a big pile of mediocrity for Kovy. This time we traded a player many assumed would be a Devil for life.
-The Devils team that added Kovy was a good team that got a little better. This team adding Hall is a rebuilding team in more desperate need of firepower up front.

Just a colossal trade. Shero deserves so much credit for playing it the way he did. He knew Chiarelli was desperate and he refused to budge until he got exactly what he wanted. He had all the leverage because he didn't need to make a trade. Worst case scenario would have been that we just kept Larsson.
This is certainly a seminal moment in Devils history....it maybe a defining moment of Shero's career.

I hope he doesn't choose 44. Ugly number for a forward. Maybe 8 if he wants to stay with a single digit, or 24 if the 4 is important. Or 22?

Completely unsubstantiated rumours about Hall and character issues have come out for years. I only saw a couple occasions on the ice where Hall didn't act like a complete class act leader. They revolved around yakupov and I'll end it there.

No one, including reporters, knows exactly what happens in the locker room and beyond. I'm of the opinion that Hall matured a lot over his time, but he was always a guy who wants to win over all else.

A funny Taylor Hall story was in about 2011 we pulled the goalie down two with a few minutes left. Other team gets the puck and it's Hall playing goalie against a guy at the top of the slot. Buddy wires one top corner, Hall on his knees attempts to save it with his face. Fortunately he fails, we go down 3 and then Hall goes to the bench livid, to me he was saying wtf did you pull the goalie for, but maybe mad he didn't stop it. Either way, he didn't bail and wanted to win so bad he put himself in whatever opportunity he could to help his team. It might be his greatest strength and biggest flaw. But you got yourselves a warrior.

Now please tell more about larsson, reading the Devils board has made me much more optimistic about the trade than I otherwise might have been.

Larsson is a "shutdown" type of DMan. He doesn't skate particularly well, but he makes up for it with his positioning and stickwork

He has an excellent first pass. His shot is probably average though and he takes awhile to get it off. However, I still think he has some untapped offensive potential

at the VERY LEAST, he will be an elite #3 for you guys. But most likely he will be a top pairing shutdown type DMan for many years to come. The progress he made this past season was awesome

Larsson will excel in Edmonton. He's exactly what they needed.

He is exactly what they need and I want him to excel, but I worry about him playing for Edmonton. He's not an elite skater. Confidence will be key for him since he relies on positioning/smarts. Without Greene as a safety net, and the rabid Edmonton media/fans I could see him regressing.

Even though Richer wore #44, Gelly completely soiled that number. Hall should definitely pick a number that's not 44 lol

Ilkka Pikkarainen wore 17 before Kovalchuk was traded here, I don't think Gelly's stint with 44 will come into play with regard to Taylor's thinking.

I'd like him to go with a single digit - number 8 or number 9 would be great.

Devils fans, I just want to say you guys are getting a great player in Hall.

All that character assassination being attempted is garbage. Hall always gave 100%. He took McDavid under his wing and the two lived together. At the end of the season Hall talked about McDavid being the leader of the team and he said he'll stand behind him. He never wanted to leave Edmonton, despite how terrible we've been.

He played on the 1st line with Crosby at the 2015 WHC and won Gold for Canada. At the 2016 WHC, he played the most minutes of any forward on Canada leading the team to another Gold medal.

Hall always gives 100% and is a great player. I wish him nothing but the best, love you Hallsy. Good luck in your future, you'll always be an Oiler and we'll always love you.

Nice to hear from Oilers fans about Hall's "character issues." Seems to have been mostly promoted by the media to sell stories--not really shocking, I guess.

Yeah ignore all the stuff on Halls character. He might be not be a born leader, but he's no cancer. He's a good guy and his teammates like him.

He's also a great interview. Isn't just full of clichés.

I miss him already. Sigh.

The "character" stuff is a bunch of crap. Hallsy loved Edmonton and wanted to stick by to see this thing through. The vast majority of Oiler fans have nothing but the utmost respect for Hall.

Hall always gave everything he had. His first trip back to EDM we will give him an enormous standing ovation. Wish nothing but the best for him.

Just his conference call yesterday, as far as I know. I would imagine if TG were still here, he would have rushed to get a personal interview and put a blog up.

But ya know, meanwhile back in the land of no beat writers. :help::cry:

Who was the typewriting ****? I couldn't stand listening to it, that sucked. Is there a transcript?

Most has already been said, but notice how many Devil fans say they loved the guy or even better he was their favorite player.

He was my favorite player, and while I think we won the trade from pure talent perspective, imo, he is the exact type of player you guys need. I really think you guys are a better team after the trade.
