It's kind of a shame now that Stamkos signed, the trade for Hall could of been a major selling point.

As an Oiler fan, I feel really sad, and downright cheated that I never got to witness Hall in a playoff game. The thought of him in the playoffs just gives me goosebumps.

He really is the definition of a driver. He's the kind of guy who can take any line, and make it a threat every time it's on the ice. Especially 5V5. His rookie season, while another ****** oiler season, was such an exciting time. The kid has game, and I'm definitely going to be paying extra attention to NJ this year.

I would say his only real weakness, is his cycle game, which isn't that bad really, but can be noticeable at times he seems to hold onto the puck too long and make a bad play, usually on the Power play where he likes to play the right side wall.

His shot is excellent, his skating is a treat to watch, and his passing is severely underrated. This is a kid who scored a PPG twice, with having nobody on the back end that could make a pass. It wouldn't shock me to see him break 90 points a couple times.

I already posted my thoughts in this thread, but I'd like to echo this statement.

Hall puts his linemates on his back and hauls them all around the ice. He is the straw that stirs the drink.

He doesn't mesh with everyone, likes to have the puck. Thing about Hallsy is it doesn't matter who he plays with, you could put him on the 4th line and they will put up points. That's why he's a franchise guy.

He's really fun to watch too.

One thing tho, he normally plays like an absolute moron for the 1st 10 or so games every year, so if he starts slow, just give him time! You won't be disappointed.

Also want to stress this point as well. Hall is a notoriously slow starter, but around the 10 game mark he goes beastmode.

AGAIN Ovechkin??? Why is his name being brought up? I don't get it.

You're right - he's no Ovechkin, he's BETTER THAN OVI where we need it most.

Enjoy Taylor Hall Devils fans. I will miss him a ton!!!!

Just to give you guys an idea of how impactful he is:

Taylor Hall is 3rd in even strength points per 60 over the last 4 years (1000 min minimum), only behind Sidney Crosby & Jamie Benn link

The following players goal differential per 60 minutes at even strength improved by the following amount from (2012-16) when they got the benefit of playing with Taylor compared to when they were not playing with him. Also included how much their GF% improved with Hall (GF% is Goals For/ (Goals For + Goals Against))

RNH= 1.1 GD/60 improvement (GF% 42.1 --> 52.1)
Eberle=1.16 GD/60 improvement (GF% 43.4 --> 53.9)
J. Schultz= 1.11 GD/60 improvement (GF% 40.3 --> 51.4)
Draisaitl= 1.21 GD/60 improvement (GF% 35.9 --> 49.4)
Klefbom= 2.56 GD/60 improvement (GF% 33.9 --> 58.5) (smaller sample size 497 mins)

I think this move could possibly send the Devils to the playoffs next spring! I'm so pumped I didn't even know what to think for hours and killed the battery on my phone. I went to a Yankee game and barely paid attention :laugh:.

What does our defense look like?

Greene-Severson
Merrill(?)-Santini
Moore-(?)

I'm comfortable with Severson on the top pair and I'm comfortable enough with Santini playing, I just don't know who you play him with.

You're right - he's no Ovechkin, he's BETTER THAN OVI where we need it most.

Hall is an elite 5v5 player.

From 2012-16, he's only behind Crosby/Benn for P/60, Crosby/Thornton for A/60 and Crosby for FirstA/60.

He had by far the highest IPP in the league as well. (When a goal was scored while Hall was on the ice, he got a point on it 88% of the time.)

Good luck next season. I'll definitely be tuning in to more Devils games.

one of the most lop sided trades in history.

There were rumors about Hamonic for Hall. My first reaction was...

What is holding back the Islanders from doing this trade? Why? Taylor Hall will rip it up in that division.

My gosh did you destory Dan Chiarelli in this trade, this trade also makes him Jim Benning look like a Genius with his Gudbranson trade.

Well done. Taylor Hall somewhat a one trick pony, but no doubt about it, he can get it done offensively.

If you're unhappy with this trade then you are likely just emotionally attached to Larsson.

Right, but you have to admit that Larsson he's vastly more handsome than Hall so it's easier to get emotionally attached to Larsson.

Our team is maybe a tad better now but it's also a tad less good looking. So we have to sign Jarret Stoll to compensate for Larsson loss.

Replacing Larsson won't be as daunting as a task as many think. It may or may not take time based on the thoughts of Ray Shero. If Shero wanted to address the hole in the lineup immediatly he could offer a player like Jason Demers a contract come July 1st. Also, yet highly unlikely, Shero can conisder trading for Kevin Shattenkirk if he truly wanted tom fill Larsson's hole with an even better player. The Devils could also take the long road which they have become known for under management of Lou Lamoriello for the past few decades. NJ has many talented young defenseman in the system including: Steve Santini, Seth Helgeson, Josh Jacobs, Reece Scarlett and a few others.

As Oilers fans know all to well your not going to be able to pick up a right shot D with a great potential & decent long term contract just anywhere (6 year, $25 mi 4.17 Mil cap hit, signed to 2021-22 vs 6 mil 2020-21 for Hall)

Jason Demers was in town with Lucic on Wed touring the new building, talk is Lucic will be signed, but I'm not hearing much about Dumers (but who knows). No offence, but FA want to go to winning teams (Or teams ready to break out), I think it would be tough to sign a coveted FA in NJ right now & if you did, expect to overpay (something we know all to well).

Shattenkirk what do you purpose as a possible trade? His contract is up next year so if anything he would be a rental & is due for a big pay raise...If he hits the FA market he will make a big pay day. Like Cherelli said in his press conference, when you give up the best player you don't win the trade & Hall was the going rate for a defenseman of Larsen's caliber.

Defensive prospects take time & even then there's no guarantee they'll pan out.

All that said, you guys will enjoy watching Hall play, he's an exciting player, on his way to being an elite point getter! Only knocks, sometimes when things don't go his way he sulks & other players pick this up & try to "push his button" to throw him off his game, but he seems to be outgrowing this. At time he seems to try to do it all himself. This is a good/bad thing - He plays on the edge of control, goes to the net so hard your just hoping he doesn't blow his knee out or something, but that's what makes him exciting to watch! And has been known to get caught on the train tracks with his head down once in a while.

I have to admit, I don't know a lot about Larson, but his is what hockeysfuture.com says about him...Doesn't sound to bad, if he can eat minutes & distribute the puck to McDavid & gang it might pan out!

Talent Analysis
Upon first glance at his numbers, one might not be overly impressed. But there is much more to Larsson’s game than numbers. He is a workhorse, capable of logging major minutes in all situations. He has played with uncommon poise for a player of his age in a league against men in the Swedish Elite League the past two years. Simply put, there aren’t very many holes in Larsson’s game. He is the complete package, capable of taking over a game with his size, skating and elite two-way skills. He’s likely not going to ever contribute elite offensive numbers from the backend, but he is more than capable of rushing the puck end-to-end, making great stretch passes with his superb vision and unleashing a hard and accurate point shot.

Future
Think of Red Wings great Nicklas Lidstrom, who just happens to be the guy that Larsson models his game after, when projecting what Larsson has the potential to become in the not-too-distant future. He has already signed with the Devils and will immediately compete for a job at the NHL level.

Just don't expect anything flashy from Larsson. He's a good passer, but the rest of his offensive game is still questionable. His shot isn't terrible, but his release is really slow. And his skating is probably aways going to hold him back from being more offensive. But he's very solid defensively, his positioning is solid, and he's good at taking away passing/shooting lanes. He can still get beat by speed, but he's gotten a lot better at it. I think Oilers fans are going to be more okay with this trade after seeing Larsson in action on a nightly basis.

1)Hall-Henrique-Palmieri - fastest 1st line in the NHL?.

2)2016-2017 each going to score 30+ goals?

Hall is the only speedster of that line and why would you break up Zajac and Palmieri or Cammy and Henrique. Palmieri turned Zajac into a 40 pt guy again and Cammy and Henrique were much better than Zajac and Cammy were

Stop. He is not better than Ovechkin

Well I wouldn't go there BUT Ovi was more of a PP beast than anything else last year. Hall's 5-on-5 production is something we desperately need considering our horrid 5-on-5 production last year.

After a night to sleep on it, I'm more in love with this trade.

This is a new team.

We'll have a group of good young players available to us from our AHL club next season, we'll have Zacha, looking to make the team, we'll have Boucher fighting for very limited space now that Hall has been added...that should lead to a greatly improved 3rd line and a significantly improved top 9 overall. That should also give guys like Wood, Quenneville, Blandisi and Lappin more time to develop in Albany.

Adding a player like Hall is not just adding a good player, it will reverberate throughout the organization in a positive way.

There is no doubt in my mind this organization turned the corner. It was happening regardless of this trade. This trade just put it on the fast track.
