THE Islanders would be asking fir Scheifele in return for Tavares as a starting point.

And we'd say no.

He's 23, locked up for 7 3/4 more years at a steal.

I'd love Tavares, but he's too expensive to trade for, would kill our depth, and would cost too much to resign.

Islanders rebuild? Regressed majorly? Team has had 3rd period lead or tie in 11 of 13 games this year. Special teams have hurt, near bottom of league in both. One PP goal scored or prevented in just a few games and they're right in playoff position. So the solution is to blow up the whole team by trading their one star?

You know how it is on HF.
Buy high, sell low. :sarcasm:

Agreed.

Tavares is a very good player, too expensive to trade for and his next contract in two years will be big dollars and term. Plus we have Mark signed for 8 wonderful years, no need for Tavares.

I totally respect this answer. I would say the same thing every time Tavares was offered for someone like Malkin.

He'd be our #1 C easily, but would kill our chances at a cup in a trade. So like Toews i'll cheer from the outside hoping the Isles get one (at least until we can manage to make the playoffs consistently, one day)

Like I said, I completely respect this mindset. Tavares is better than Scheifele, but Scheifele is yours. I happen to love Schiefele, I hope he continues to be awesome for you guys.

Would love to have Taverns, but I will keep the guy that has 52 points in his last 40 games and is signed for another 7.75 years at a great contract.

We should have picked Scheifele over Strome:(

I didn't like the Strome pick at the time. Came around to it, now I don't like it again. We should have taken Couturier. I wanted him or Hamilton at the time.

To be fair, lots of people laughed at us for that pick.

I was one of them. I never even heard of him, meanwhile Couturier, Hamilton, and Ryan Murphy were still on the board. I was totally wrong, what a player he is.

He's got a tonne of skill but what I feel really pushes him ahead is his work ethic. He's a gym rat and a hockey nut. I've read a bunch of storied that talk about him being a true student of the game.

The kids a beauty.

I am a Ranger fan and me and my Islander fan friend and I were talking about how the team has regressed majorly this season after losing its identity and key players in Franz, Okposo, Martin. Tavares has to sense that he most likely will not be able to win a cup on the Island, especially with the roster constructed as is. He is playing with JOSH BAILEY AND CAL CLUTTERBUCK which is a joke. His contract is up in 2 years and I understand that he is a FRANCHISE PLAYER.

WPG has a glut of talent up front and could jump start and Islanders rebuild which is starting to seem necessary(which is hilarious because they have not achieved much with JT). They would part with a huge package because imagine Laine or Wheeler with Tavares....

To WPG:
Tavares
Pulock

To NYI:
Trouba
Little
Burmistrov
2 of Connor/Dano/Armia
2017 1st

Now this is based on value purely. Not sure with contracts and expansion draft if anything like this could be possible until 2017 but was just gauging the fan bases here to see if value is close. There may need to be some picks/prospects exchanged to balance it out. Maybe Pulock needs to become Hamonic.

Flame Away:yo:
Chevy will wait two years and Little's contract is up...
Sign Tavares at 7 x 8.25m (about 3m more than what Little will want) and tell him he will play with Laine.
Ehlers Tavares Laine
Connor Scheif Wheeler
Dano Roslovic Armia
Lemieux Copp Tanev
looks like a playoff bound team to me.

So he plays with Winnipeg for less than 2 years....Yes we all love JT, but how successful has he been bringing the Isles into being contenders. NOT. It would be the same with the Jets.

Tavares is not traded anywhere unless a comparable #1 center is coming back. Quantity isn't going to get it done. Little would be a nice piece, but he's been injured a lot recently. This deal starts with Scheifele+

Given how Tavares is probably only going to bring a bit more all around play than Scheif currently does at a much higher cap hit we'd kindly say no thanks and move on. Tavares would be amazing to have for his all around play but he's going to cost to much for us. You don't trade franchise centers like Tavares anyways unless you're going rebuild. This is all silly talk.
