Proposal: Taveras to WPG

Awful proposal. Funny to see a ranger fan bashing the islanders for not winning with their franchise player when "the king" has yet to win a cup himself. I'll go start a thread on why you should trade him

One PP goal scored or prevented in just a few games and they're right in playoff position. So the solution is to blow up the whole team by trading their one star?"

I'm not bashing them by any means. You'd have to be foolish to say the have not regressed, even from the eye test alone. The point I was making is that management really screwed the team up this off-season. You gave Franz's money(your best PK player and PP point man from last season) to Ladd who has been horrible, which addresses the 2nd posters point that your special teams is horrible. That's part of the game, and good teams win games that they are tied or leading in the 3rd period. They also let Martin walk who was the heart and soul of the bottom 6. Now Clutterbuck is playing on JT's wing instead of bash brothering with Martin and really wearing teams down. You are trending the opposite direction of a cup, and not towards. I addressed that JT was a franchise player, I know these players barely get traded but it happens(Gretzky,Lindros,Jagr).

Tough to compare points between Scheifele and JT as JT has been playing with suspect wingers at best for his entire career and Scheifele has been playing with studs like Wheeler and Ehlers. Which is why I said imagine if JT played with Laine for 2 years....Winnipeg would be a force to be reckoned with.

Bash the value of the trade but don't try and claim the Islanders are a better team than they were last year.

You don't blow up the team. You add the pieces that are missing. A top line wing and new special teams coaches are all the Islanders need.

Nobody said that. A few pointed out that now that Scheifele has blossomed into a pretty good #1 centre there would be no need to gut half the team to get JT. JT is better for sure, but the difference certainly isn't Trouba, Little, Connor, a bottom sixer and a # 1 pick.

This is a huge and rightful no by the Isles. Tavares is not one to be traded.

I don't agree with the op's proposal but I have to wonder if the Isles do poorly this season, will they attempt to move Tavares on the premise that he might bolt when he is a UFA in 2018.

Would they rather trade him now with almost 2 full seasons left on his contract or as a rental? And I understand he is the franchise player there but if they are bad, him leaving is at least a possibility.

You are aware that Scheifele is currently outscoring Tavares right? And that Tavares is likely to get 4+ million dollars more than Scheifele when he signs his next contract?

Scheifele could score more points then Tavares for the next three years and I still take Tavares everyday of the week and twice on sundays.

Anyone who thinks Matt Martin was the key to the Islanders 4th line is clearly far too uneducated on the Islanders to make a proposal for them.

Anyone who thinks Mark Scheiffele has more value than John Tavares is clearly far too big a homer to weigh in on the matter.

As a Jets fan, I think this proposal favours us.
Tavares is really good.
However, I would be scared that he wouldn't re-sign, so while I'd probably do this trade, I probably wouldn't add too much more.
